We haven't seen Jake Lockley yet (or have we?) I think Marc created Jake Lockley not Steven in that room as a child to deal coping with his Mother beating him. Steven doesn't remember that and seems to remember a loving Mother not a cruel one as we see Marc turn to Steven start to talk on his cell outside the funeral to his Mother not realizing there is no answer. Also we have seen in this episode not just Marc and Steven talking to Doctor Harrow in the Asylum but possibly Jake (the patient with the broken nose) as well. His name has not been said yet but it's been implied he's been there.

For some who may be wondering why Moon Knight hasn't been confirmed for a second season, it has to do with Emmy nominations. Marvel has submitted Moon Knight for Emmy consideration in the limited series category. If a second season were announced the show couldn't be submitted in that category. Like the show or not, one thing is abundantly clear, Oscar Issac is devouring this role and his performance deserves to be recognized.

This is a real disorder called dissociation identity disorder(DID) and normally the person has childhood trauma and their mind breaks into multiple personalities or alters which helps cope with the trauma. general consensus currently is that the alters aren't just alternate "personalities" but rather fully independent beings who happen to share a brain. Like the brain is running two actual consciousnesses in parallel as a self defence mechanism as neither individually could handle the burden of their trauma.
@josh___something

@Sorcha Sorley An analogy I found helpful was to imagine a person's personality as a plate in a Kiln. As a person goes through their childhood, they'll have a cohesive singular personality, a whole plate. But a DID person, because of repeated trauma and abuse(How DID develops), it'll end up cracked, the personality fragments. The fragments, in this analogy being the alters. Not a 1:1 analogy, since the different alters are still essentially separate entities that are people in their own right. But it does help visualize why there's no "Original" Alter, and how much more fragile our mind is when early in life, since before firing, pottery is _very delicate_.

I think Jake was the version who was all beaten up. He’s the first guy in the office. He looks confused. He is totally beaten up. He gets crazy violent. And just before we see him, Marc and Steven were still in the hallway with the goddess. He even had a slight NY accent. Maybe Jake has been seen before and we assumed it was Marc…like the one who killed all the town people in episode one. But I’m betting Steven is still there. When the scales balanced, there were still two hearts on the scale. But now they’re both in balance. Marc became the vulnerable one, and Steven became the hero who sacrificed himself.

In regards to the "comic accuracy" question: -This show is *very* faithful to the characters (for the most part), but most of this plot is kind of original. Bits of it have been done in the comics, but I don't think there's a single arc this story falls under. -One character that is different is the main villain, Harrow. In the comics, he's a one-off F Tier baddie, which is exactly why he was chosen for the show, so they could do something original.

While Oscar is doing really good, Ethan Hawke as Harrow has been a 6.5 for me(nothing too outstanding, but a well justified villain).. but Dr.Harrow! Just like Oscar goes between Marc/Steven, I really feel Dr.Harrow genuinely cares for his patient, and without the malicious intent of Arthur, Ethan really gets a chance to shine as more of a reflection of a possible past psychiatrist in Marc's mind, while still maintaining those dark malicious undertones, and all within only a few short dialogues. These last few episodes have really made me appreciate his performance and I hope to see where he goes in the final episode! Great reaction as usual!

I think the reason why ethan hawke being the villain/doctor that is so persistent on "curing" Marc and coincidentally Steven's fate of being trapped in the desert was what needed to enter the good afterlife, is a metaphor for how old mental institutions were focused on "fixing" people with mental illness. the doctor knows that by eliminating steven, marc will be in the afterlife and can't stop ammit in the real world. its like how treating schizophrenic patients with lobotomy was still accepted just a few decades ago. Today it is generally known that people with trauma and or mental illness have to learn live with their condition. There is no "real personality" to a person with DID, they are all equally aspect of the self. So at some point, Marc is going have to save Steven, and or maybe even learn about the third alter's existence...

Incredible & heartbreaking. I think (and pray) Steven will be back in the last ep - with DID (from what I've researched, I don't have DID so pls take my opinion with a pinch of salt) an alter doesn’t just ‘die’ or ‘disappear’ when they go with integration treatment (good communication between alters, an acceptance of a system, less/no blackouts when switching etc) . If they want to go with final fusion (merging experiences, traits etc), it takes years and years, a lot of work and a readiness to fuse - Steven didn’t look at all ready when he fell off that boat and introducing the third alter and then fusing in the same ep without a chance for the character to breathe would be a weird choice for me. I don't think I'd be mad if they did it as fusing is a valid treatment, I'd just miss Steven and Marc as separate entities, especially with Oscar saying that Steven is autistic so I don't know why they'd do that when the character is so important and unique. She was not mentally ill to the point of physical trauma, but she had emotionally abandoned me from me going into puberty until I became grown enough to stand up to her. Ant, I wish the best for you. Sometimes, the road to wellness can be a rough trek, but can also be a healing adventure. Peace.

Steven you pointed out that his mom wasn’t there for birthday but that was just 2 birthdays we saw…. She was mentally and physically abusing him for 364 days a year for like 15 years 👺😣🤯 it’s no wonder his mind cracked. -Could protect little brother -Mom hates/beats him -Father stands by/turns a blind eye (he can’t rely/trust his father) It makes sense that he has to create a friend and he only has himself 🤕🪞

My favourite Oscar performances this episode: When Marc broke down in front of Steven, not wanting to relive his past trauma, Marc crying on the ground and switching to Steven, and then the scene where Steven had to face the fact that their mother's dead and he was fighting back tears while staring at the phone. Phenomenal!

I'm happy that they're getting a better understanding of how the alters work, it didn't feel like you guys were that knowledgeable on the topic before, but this episode did (as someone who doesn't have DID, but knows somewhat how it works) a good job at showcasing how someone might develop it. It's basically a coping or survival mechanism for repeated childhood trauma, first he lost his brother and then his mom abused him, awful awful stuff. Through Steven, Marc was able to escape those memories.

as someone who had both sides of a mother like this.... this episode hit me deep so much so that I couldn't stop crying for half an hour... my father left when I was born and my mom was stuck raising the child that almost killed her from birth on her own... when I was a child she let her boyfriends beat me over the smallest mistake I say boyfriends because she couldn't keep a relationship... she often turned to drink and chainsmoking. One particular instance where she actually beat me was when I messed up her incense candles by accident... she took my batman piggy bank and threw it full force at my leg busting open my knee... I cried for a hour straight. her friends used to burn me with cigarettes and try to get me to smoke or drink. it wasn't until her final boyfriend arrived that she started changing... after years of being abused by boyfriends and letting me be abused she finally started to care... her last boyfriend often put me down and yelled at me over the smallest things... a example being if I didn't like a certain food he'd try and force me to eat it then yell at me when I didn't and if I did and started gagging he still yelled at me... he would then force me to do everything... handwash dishes even though we had a dishwasher that worked, do the laundry, fix their bed (even though they mostly slept on a couch... id rather not think about why their bed was always messed up), walk the dog and clean up dog crap (even from the neighbor's yard), mow lawns, smash furniture he didn't want anymore, clean up his messes, and much... much more... all while he berated me about not doing certain things right or not making something good enough then he'd mess it up and tell me to start over. My Mom would check on me from time to time and even get me out of some of the work. He even ignored most of the things I was actually supposed to learn... like for example... learn how to drive... I never got my learner's permit... im almost 20... I dont know how to manage a bank account... how a paying job works... (I work as a volunteer at a haunted house called spook haven and it is really good work experience.. without that I would still be fumbling not knowing how to provide for myself or anyone else). most life lessons I learned were either from experience, offline, from a video game, or on rare occassions from my mom or him. My mom was so unbelievably broken she felt like nothing without him so the mental strain continued... my anger grew and I wanted to hurt him so bad.... but I found other ways to focus that anger... I learned how to fight... I taught myself martial arts and boxing. im getting a little off topic but my point is... my life wasn't peachy my parents couldn't even be called parents most of the time... it wasn't until my mom died that I was finally free.... she had been through multiple car accidents... she had to have feeding tubes run through her body and she had almost died multiple times... it was april of last year when she finally went to rest... I never got to say goodbye... my emotions were so fucked I didn't know how to process it aside from playing video games... I didn't cry until a month later.... I was orphaned at 18... she never got to see me graduate... she never got to see me turn 19... she wont be there for my first drink when I turn 21... she wont meet her grandchildren when / if I meet my significant other... I miss her and despite her many flaws I loved her she was my mother.... and unlike my father she actually stuck around... she could've taken the easy out and put me in adoption to be raised by possibly worse people. I live my gram now and my brother is planning on helping me with job resumes and getting my learner's permit / driver's license whenever he gets the chance.... I have so much pain and so many storys to tell about it... I dont doubt I could write a novel at this point... I just hope I get my life together soon and I swear to my future children that they will never have to feel a fraction of the pain I had growing up.

So... Question. Steven asked Tewaret to tell Layla to free Konshu. Is it possible that Steven is now a crystal statue and Marc is safe in the field of reeds and the alter neither of them knows about stayed on the boat and has gone through Osiris's gate with Tewaret to help Layla because in the end, he's the really tough one? When Konshu is freed he'll resurrect Marc and Steven, but for now they're safe.

I’m pretty sure that was Jake (the third personality) in the first scene with Harrow, the one that gets sedated. I don’t even know how I didn’t realize how different Oscar Isaac acted from both Marc and Steven. He has like a Brooklyn accent and his eyes and facial/body expressions are very different. He’s also more violent than both of the others as he was gonna stab himself in the eye. I think that Jake is the one who would come in and protect Marc and Steven from the beatings their mom did to them, which would explain why Steven doesn’t remember their mom being abusive. And it would explain why he’s the most violent one

There’s plenty of female abusers in shows and movies. Mother Gothel, The aunt in Perks of Being A Wallflower, Marianne’s mother in Normal People, Amy Dunne in Gone Girl, Tony Soprano’s mother, Bojack Horseman’s mother, the list goes on, and that’s just from the top of my head. Granted it might not be something you see in the likes of an MCU property, but that’s just because most MCU shows and movies avoid this kind of psychological drama altogether. I can’t think of any off the top of my head that goes out their way to excuse female abusers to be honest

Khonshu's words to Marc when he's making the deal with him are pretty much what he says to him in the Lemire run. Also, Marc remembering all of the past people he's killed did happen in the comics as well. In the classic Moench run his other personalities reminded him of the sins of his past. I say personalities because in that context he didn't have DID. He heavily devoted himself to Khonshu because he believed by serving this god of justice he could cleanse himself of his sins.

Not sure if this was already mentioned, but I feel like the scales have already balanced because Marc has finally faced his traumas, and why he created Steven. It's also the reason why I don't think Steven will be back again. I've read that one of the treatments for DID patients is accepting their trauma and why they created alters in the first place. Then they accept that they no longer need the alter in order to move on and live a normal life. Marc created Steven as a coping mechanism to protect himself from the abuse. Up to the very end, Steven protected him. But now that Marc has accepted his trauma and that what happened wasn't his fault, he no longer needs the Steven alter. Such great story telling! Phenomenal acting and top notch writing! Love this episode and your reactions too 💯💯

Interesting how Mark has developed an almost supernatural ability to bury things, and fights in a costume similar to a mummy(also something that’s “buried”), yet his alter ego(and his wife) loves digging things up. Mark hides from the past, while Steven constantly forces him to face it. Kinda makes sense that Steven’s last act was to “find” what Mark needed to be saved, which was ultimately a part of himself.

I'm pretty sure we've already seen the third personality, particularly in this episode, in the scene where he's being tranquilised. That was neither Marc nor Steven. His deminer changed, his accent took on a New York twist, his mouth was tight, his whole body was tense. Where did the cuts on his face come from? Plus, I don't think Marc would've tried to use a sharp, pyramid paperweight as a weapon. I hope that was him and I wasn't just imagining it.

Marc and Steven are so great together. And now I am actually angry at myself because on one side I really want Marc to heal, he deserves healing so much. What he has been going through is horrible to say the least, and I know that him healing would mean Steven has to go eventually, but on the other side I don't want him to. And definitely not like this. Can't we GRANT him his own body. Please. (pun totally intended) And I totally forgot that Oscar Isaac is playing both characters. It felt like two people. He is amazing.
