I think that it’s good to show a character with mental illnesses because all we get to see are problems people don’t have like, wanda getting anxiety and depression from her robot husband and fake kids dying. But Steve, and Marc (and Jake) are real examples of real illnesses. After his brother died and his mother started abusing him, Marc created a new friend, a new brother who was the best of him always the optimist, and Jake who was everything he didn’t want to be (that happened later after he started his mercenary career).

Technically Harrow didn't kill the Gods themselves, he killed their Avatars so the Gods had no power in the mortal plan anymore, sense they left Earth long ago and only communicate through the Avatars. And little fun fact Taweret is actually the one on the boat because Anubis has been trapped in an Asompti (probably spelled that wrong) and can be seen on the wall of them when Osiris' Avatar puts Khonsu on the wall.

For those who don't know, the actual god is named Khonsu, not Khonshu. My best guess for why is that the original writer (the one in the '70s) got it wrong or his source was wrong, but I actually have a theory about that. I believe that Khonsu and Khonshu are different gods (variants if you will). I believe that: Khonsu is the God of the moon, travelers, and healing. Khonshu is the God of the moon, travelers, and beating up drug dealers in alleyways at 3 AM. Also, he's full of shit, don't trust him.

Or it can be to explain different’s, the writers want to be creative, however certain mythology’s are limited. So they make new stuff. Basically to have enough building blocks to make stuff easily, but not so limited to have to oblige to everything. Using a different name may show this (in the mcu) scribes got stuff wrong. Think about it, in the mcu, are you expecting for scribes to get everything right about those gods. No. And to show they use a different name to distance it enough to free it up.

It is also potentially based on an older transliteration. It is important to remember the ancient Egyptian language is still only partially understood. While the Rosetta stone has made it not impossible to translate, much is still unknown. Vowels for example were not a part of writing and instead thought to be understood, thus why you see the sun gods name written as both Ra and Re depending on the scholar's preference. Similarly some consonants have multiple pronunciations, thus while the Egyptian god of the red sand, storms, and wild animals is often written as Set, it is also commonly written as Seth or even Sutekh because, as stated before, modern scholars have to basically assume the vowels as well as the specific variation of each consonant. And my examples use two of the more commonly spoken about gods thus we have some near contemporaries writing about them in languages we do have a working understanding of, thus why we have repeated standards even if all don't agree. With minor gods like the god on night travelers and the moon all we really have when transliterated is "ḫnsw." We have little idea of how this was actually pronounced as since he was a rather minor god not many contemporaries wrote of him thus scholars have various ways of transliterating it into a recognizable pronunciation: Chonsu, Khensu, Khons, and yes Khonshu are among the various versions used depending on what sounds write to the writer. Funnily enough in the Coptic language, which descends for ancient Egyptian directly, his name transliterates as Shons, completely different from any of the commonly agreed variations.

It has many spellings. Khonsu, Khons, Chons, or Khensu are all spellings. All of the various Egyptian gods have several spellings due in part to scholars to this day being unable to agree on proper translations of hieroglyphics. It is entirely possible that back in 1975 when Moon Knight was created "Khonshu" was an accepted spelling.

I actually had that exact same question about Khonsu’s appearance, and it seems like there are two different depictions of Khonsu. One depiction of Khonsu has a very humanoid appearance I think with blue skin(or maybe white not sure). Then another one is the head of a hawk. So the bird head is at least partially accurate, but not so raven like that his head is. Also, I feel like I should say this, Harrow isn’t really fighting the Gods. The Avatars in Moon Knight are the will of the Gods. When Steven finds the tomb of Alexander the Great, he says that the avatar was Ammit’s voice. So they aren’t really the Gods in mortal form but are the will of the Gods.

So to answer the point about khonshu’s head, marvel has for the longest time depicted khonshu as having a bird skull for a head in the comics and as an adaptation of the comics, the show does the same thing. Though I believe it is possible his head could have looked more similar to the bird portrayal from the mythology but then decayed to be skull like. My reasoning is a throw away line from ammit saying time was not kind to him.

Fun fact: Layla actually WAS originally going to be an avatar of Isis! the showrunner eventually changed it to make her an avatar of Taweret after deciding that Layla and Taweret provided a more interesting dynamic they didn't change her outfit's design though because Layla is based on a pre-existing comic character named the Scarlet Scarab :\
@ShiningDarknes
@ShiningDarknes Жыл бұрын
Which was a dumb decision since Tawaret is in no way a god who's avatar would get those powers. In fact based on the powers she gets and appearence she should probably have been matched up with Neith, goddess of war (the avatar is a hero of Egypt so this would make way more sense), wisdom, motherhood (like Taweret), and most importantly for the sake of the plot FUNERARY (you know, the thing the shoe-horned Taweret into for no reason) But I mean much like Isis she is just depicted as a human with bird wings and not some animal they can make a CGI model of. But I wouldn't expect the writers to know one of the OLDEST GODS OF EGYPYT or anything, she is only mother of Ra and worshiped as the mother of creation, NBD. Oh, did I mention she is also depicted has having a _red_ crown? So, you know, they could actually swing the _Scarlet_ Scarab thing vaguely. Oh, and she uses a bow so the ranged nature of Layla's avatar kit would work with that too. FFS this took me all of 15 minutes to research but no, they went with the fucking hippo.

To answer your confusion about Layla's Avatar Outfit design is that she was made to become the Red Scarab, something the teased throughout the series with her name, what her late father called her, and her band aid in Marc's views in the boat in the duat. In the comics, the Red Scarab was an Egyptian villain who fought against the Invaders, but since then, they changed it so Layla's rendition on the Red Scarab is an Egyptian hero, as a way to fix the horrible idea of making someone the villain going up against a group called the *INVADERS*, and to kinda dunk on Wonder Woman 2

k...but her getup and powers don't match that of Tawaret which she was temporary avatar of so it makes no sense from a mythology standpoint. Tawaret was just a weird choice, I mean she is the goddess of motherhood. I dunno maybe since she was acting in what seems to be Anubis's roll (the scales thing is his schtick) and the boat seems to be either Neith's or Ra's though Neith would make a bit more sense since she is a goddess of motherhood (like Tawaret), war, and the Nile also and is often depicted with wings like the ones Layla's avatar getup has (also Ra's boat is her boat since she is his mother so that checks out) she was able to make Layla into an avatar of some other god she was acting for. They really needed to do a better job explaining that more than half of the gods are sealed up like Ammit and later Khonshu. Anubis recently got sealed as well based on Tawaret doing his job.

Ok so firstly, from what I know most of the egyptian gods are depicted with their divine animal symbol as their heads Khonshu can be seen both with and without this in his depictions, that explains the animal heads on the gods, I think having konshu's as a skull was more or less just a different design choice to make him different. (might be reading into this but it could represent the fact that he is different from the other gods and generally an outcast in MoonKnight) - Next up we have the fact that Osiris is not physically in the mortal plain, he is using his avatar as a medium between the two plains you can see this similarly in The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan. I've got nothing to say about Harrow beating the other gods with Ammit still in the Ushabti, the only argument I could have is that the gods weren't in their actual "bodies" but still in their avatars making them weaker as they can't use their full power whilst in the avatars. - After that with Khonshu growing and having the power to fight Ammit, only thing that makes sense to me is that he was at full power because it was night time and a full moon at that, other than that I've got nothing. - With the Anubis and the Duat thing, as many others have pointed out there were a shit ton of gods sealed in the Ushabti's (Ushabti?) Anubis included, then with the scales being on the boat, in continuity I would assume this is because there's been so much time that's passed that it makes more sense to do the judgment on the way, plus with Ammit being evil they wouldn't have anyone to devour the hearts so they have to chuck them into the sands and let the restless souls take them. - Anyways I absolutely loved the story and am going to be so mad if season 2 doesn't come out soon. Also I love the differences between the morals of each of the personalities, Steven being essentially the pacifist as he completely despises violence but will fight if he absolutely needs to, Marc being the one who while may not like it, will do what needs to be done, and finally what seems to be the other side of morals from Steven, we have Jake Lockley, who would seem to be the complete manifestation of brutality in Marc, not caring about anything else but the job, I'm very interested to see what made Marc split his personality into a third, although I have a theory that it's actually Steven who ended up inadvertently split himself into Jake, as he was too soft to get through some other traumatic situation.

I think the thing with Konshu being large at that time is he's fighting at night. He's also been enacting his will through the moon knight, which has probably boosted him somehow, while the other Gods haven't seemingly been up to much, so they don't have much power. Gods are usually, in most media I've consumed, creatures that run on belief, if a lot of people worship you, or you have some variety of influence over the world, through say, an avatar doing things that are good for you, the more powerful you will be. Harrow kills the other avatars because he's good with magic, and he has a lot of combat experience, being Konshu's old avatar and all the nefarious things he's been up to since. I agree that that particular bit was kinda disappointing though

the lack of Anubis, Ptah, Sekmet, Thoth, and others I think is that they've fully gone to the overvoid, there simply is no trace or way for them to return to our world. Osiris, Hathor and others on the council live partially, between worlds, which is probably why their avatars fell so easily, only part of the godly power is present. While Khonshu and Ammit have no presence in the overvoid, and fully exist within our realm which is why ultimately they can hold more practical power to affect things we see.

I think the Konshu bird skull thing just comes from his comic design. Also, I too was disappointed in Ammit's design in the show. Apparently, Layla's new form is based off the Scarlet Scarab from Marvel Comics. I think Tawaret might've been better replaced by Ra. The Ship Marc and Steven find him on could be the Ship of Ra during its nightly journey through the Duat. As he can see what's going on with all the souls being purged, he could find this reason enough to bring them back to the "real world" with him. After he emerges from the Duat, he could ask Layla to be his avatar, and since he's in his morning sun Khepri form, her suit would make sense to be the Scarlet Scarab. It would also give a cool Sun and Moon dynamic between Marc/Steven and Layla. Although it was cool to see Tawaret, I think the character would've worked better as Ra, but that's just my two cents. I think the reason a lot of the gods seem to have taken new responsibilities in this show is because we can see that they have already imprisoned a ton of other gods in ushabti, making it so that someone has to take up their roles. I loved the video and hope to see you do something similar for Thor 4!

The reason I think the other avatars got one tapped so hard is because they simply weren't given power to fight. Harrow says something like "You're judges, not warriors." and I think that applies to the powers they received. Moon knight gets the badass suit that grants weapons, constant healing and supernatural physical abilities and Layla got the same thing but golden, while the other avatars probably only got social skills or something of the sort, since we don't see them with any sort of treasure.

Spoilers****** This is my theory for why we did not see the other gods in Moon Knight. The Ennead(in marvel) reside in the celestial Heliopolis that's why the gods are not seen in for example earth and the duat(i think) at the gates of Osiris that's why we did not see Osiris manning the gates as he reside in the celestial Heliopolis. and some contradictions can be made why is khonshu on earth? well he is a shamed god so he is probably not allowed. and secondly why is Tawaret manning the scales and not handling it remotely like Osiris well, maybe she is a guide and since in the show they said humans cant man it if they are not dead so the physical god needs to physically there but since osiris's gates is not as complicated as the manning the scales and the boat he can operate straight from the celestial Heliopolis.

Personally speaking I think the weekly episode release thing is wiser in the long run because while for some, like yourself, it is very annoying or inconvenient overall it gives the series time to breath and establish a culture online. People can talk about the episodes as they come and speculate about what will happen next. It gives each episode time to shine too. It's overall very healthy for the series and gives it longevity. A big reason why Netflix is failing currently is that people are complaining that even when their shows are good the hype surrounding them dies within a day because everyone is watching on a different schedule so people either binge it in a day and then are done with it or watching it at their own pace and avoid the internet like a plague to prevent being spoiled.
