You're dead right my friend, it's messy, time consuming, expensive and often frustrating, but the stand back result is worth all of that when, like you say, it didn't exist before you started !

Del ... Looking great! It's easy to see why you're pleased. This bike is going to be amazing. Can't wait to see the tail get finished out. And I rather like a bit of edge on that tail (not sure it's really a safety concern, but if it were my bike I would not round it terribly much, just my .02 there) :) Sail on my friend... you're doing great!
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Cheers Donald, it will be getting rounded off quite a bit, and actually tapered from a 90' edge right behind me to what could best be described as a rounded power bulge right at the back edge to encircle the light tube... that's the plan at least, whether that becomes a reality is another matter lol !

Fantastic result, looks way better than the Harley Hybrid mashup previously on there (and I liked that too). I'm sure you're chuffed with the outcome, it's certainly the best bit of 'fibreglassage' (?) I've seen you do and having created it freehand is a credit to your eye, skill and willingness to learn and listen to advice. Nice too to see a tweak to the 'vibe' of the channel, I had no issues with last years format but it feels much more core DBG again. Happy days. Sun is out, time to ride...

Coming along nicely now, can't wait to see it finished and painted, mounted and the light in place. I was almost tempted to buy a ZX6r from around 99' love that red and black they used back then, it had only done just over 11k miles and looked mint. Just the age and lack of fuel injection puts me off, although I'm sure it should not. If I save a little longer I might end up getting an 06 636 ZX6r if the right one turns up.

Thanks Ollie, you're very kind... it's often difficult when you're conducting a bike build in public, because an engaged, and passionate, audience will care about what you're doing, and will want it to win at every step, so when they see it going a direction they don't agree with, or doubt the look of, then they'll usually let you know! But I try to work through it, I usually have a vision in my head of the finished shape, and one way, or another, can pull it off by the time it's done ... thanks for your faith and sticking with it mate...

Brillant Del, was really surprised by how good it looks even at this stage and shocked by how light it was. Now comes the fun bit of fitting the holes for the brackets and whatever goes underneath to protect the battery and fuses. You talked about using some sheet metal underneath to help with that so I'm really looking forward to your thought process on doing that. You and Pen have a great bank holiday weekend....that's if your not working lol All the best mate.

Hi James, Thanks buddy, thats very kind, i am proper chuffed with it now, and lots of work still to do.. im just going to 'glass in' some steel angle under that back of the seat part, and that will give me a strut to drill and bolt to.. and some struts welded to the under structure to meet that and bolt down.. the front will be the same, .It will also get trimmed back a lot more yet, but first up.. get rid of the air bubbles, then a skin of filler, and lots and lots of sanding..lol!

Exactly that my friend, more's the point, it's twice as much in materials, and for no real reason, you just have to make the plug a tiny bit smaller than you want the finished panel, and then the completed size will be correct... !

Moonfleet41 after spending all day on her and trying to diagnose the problem. I am still no closer. However I have confirmed a good spark. Good fuel feed. Good compression. So decided to take the head off to see if a valve had locked. All round it's clean. The head is clean. The piston is clean. Everything I have checked has come out clean. I have now ran out of ideas. No problem. It's videos like yours that give me the confidence to take on a task like this. Thank you once again

Just a thought. Why not drill some large holes in that battery box for further weight reduction and it'll keep it's strength?
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi buddy, it doesn't have to be super light, the whole tail structure is only 2kgs as it is, and drilling out large holes from that battery box will weaken it, it doesn't have a top to it, it's not a box as such, more of a tray (just to be picky!), so it doesn't have a lid to it to give the strength of a box, it's fine as it is, and I don't weigh much lol !

Wow Del, result! After watching all the time, graft, marzipan & sweat you've put in to this part of the build, I must admit that the next time I see a broken chunk of f/glass stuffed forlornly in some race paddock bin, I will look upon it with a little more sympathy than I may have done previously. Talk about 'less is more', an awful lot of work can go into 'simplify & add lightness' sometimes eh? Have a great w/e : ) x

Hi Darren, if you mean the level of the base that I sit on, then that's got to be flat so it's half way comfortable, but I'm actually gonna trim away the ears that hang down, they were just there to cover the space, am gonna make the whole thing look like it's floating rather than part of the tank ... early days yet mate, gotta deal with some air bubbles and get some filler over it, then work out the best way to mount it... once it's looking good and bolted down, I'll fine tune the shape of the bottom edge... cheers !

DEL!! Help me! I have a poorly 92 Vfr 750 where P.O. has bodged the threads in the cylinder head for the exhaust studs. There’s not any meat on the lug to go up a thread size... can these be plug welded and retapped??

Hi mate, sorry to hear about the exhaust stud, are you sure you can't get a helicoil in there?? It is one size up, and there's usually enough meat for that, but if not, then of course remember it's ally, so if someone can plug weld it, they'd need to be a pretty skilled welder... but it could be an expensive process, perhaps see how much you can source a second hand head for, often that's a cheaper route... but see a helicoil will go in there first?? Oh, and thanks for your kind words on the panel, am really pleased at how it's come out, naturally I know I could have done better, and there are parts I wish I'd done different, but that's what it's all about, learning as you go !

(P) Lookin' great! Looking forward to the final trim, and seeing some filler flying!! 🖒🏼 I agree with rounding the fin down too...should look a bit better that way.

Well, in true fighter style, it's gonna be a simple layer of tooled leather in the buttocks area, your commission will be coming shortly... may be a total girl, and opt for a 6mm layer of memory foam, depends if the shape fits the boney bits lol ! But just gonna bond the pad straight on to the panel... !
