Buy yourself some friction drill bits and you can save some money on rivnuts. On a job like this it takes care of the initial hole and drifts the material inward to give you more material for purchase, then you just tap it to the fastener size you need and Bob's your uncle.

Instead of the two separate panel covers for the rectifier & solenoid, maybe fabricate one larger piece that will cover both, and you can incorporate some sort of flowing (swooping, or geometric) design into the cover piece. I think that having two covers will still give the appearance of pimples on that side panel. Just some food for thought.

Wow! Great practice indeed! With all due respect I think that the side panels in the tail section, deprive the bike of the sleek slim tail section we are used with cafe racers. Maybe putting the regulator on the bottom of the tail would help? Moreover, I know it is an electronic bike, but it would be nice if it could be stripped somehow down to basics. Don’t get me wrong, just pulling some thoughts of the top of my head!cant wait to see it finished!

Moonfleet41 I mean that in contrast to a late 80s early 90s Japanese bikes, it has a lot of wiring and supplemental parts like that regulator which I think make it difficult to hide in order to create that slim sleek cafe racer look

A bit of an overkill the work surrounding the rectifier in my opinion. Rectifiers need cooling but the also don't get very warm let alone hot. Within the tail it would have been ideal without the danger of overheating. But anyway a very nice job done.

Del, are you sure the regulator is now correctly located? When riding I would expect your thigh would disrupt the airflow to the regulator. As regards the aluminium, there are various grades of aluminium available, with some being more malleable, I suggest you contact either the aluminium stockholders or indeed the bus body fabricators to find the correct grade. Land Rover used to use Birmabright for their bodies, which required annealing if it was worked too much and I know Supaform aluminium is used for architectural panels. Keep up the good work!

haha that made mu chuckle, the panel came indeed from a crashed bus, but was built in 1974, an old Bristol VR, so not so sure I'll have much luck finding that information... but got some new stuff on the way from the same supplier as the tail panel, just a little thinner, so should be easier to work! I think i would have made it as one long scoop over both, maybe wider but lower in the front, and higher at middle then lowerit again and thin it out towards the end

I think the aluminium aircraft look will work well. Maybe look at pictures of planes like the dc2 if you can. I do feel that you have a rat rod style bike already and that the aluminium look will be far nicer not going with that style. The aluminium body is probably more suited to a cafe or faux vintage racer look (what if the hayabusa was built by a mad scientist in the 1930s?). You're getting nifty with that wheel too - I don't think I'd have the patience.

Happy turnout on that front.. the estate that our unit is on has a vehicle auto body shop two doors down, and they can do any thing like that, and are even happy for me to do it there.. so i can save on those investments for now.. but thanks for the nudge Tony.

Hi Del great idea to make a vented cover for your rectifyer, I know it's a practice piece but something about the look, it's such a shame that the frame you made is being covered, the frame looks mint I'd wanna show it off, but it's not finished and it's your ride and it's a million times better than I'd do, keep up the good work, cheers.. J, You're absolutely right mate.. thats why im not going to roll with this, i wanted to expose a bit more of the frame, so ill be making a separate stand along cover for the Rectifier, then some minimal metal just to mount it.. it will have to evolve and look right through every step.. thanks for the feedback mate.. its really valuable. have a good week. It doesn't need a jet stream mate, just a little air flow and that's exactly where it was placed by the factory and covered with a huge plastic panel... it doesn't get red hot, just warm!

Love the sub frame you made and the cafe racer pod ,be an awful shame to add side panels to cover up your work ,I'd seriously consider moving the rectifier to give it the rear end that cafe racer /streetfighter look ,cracking job though.👍
