A trip down memory lane watching Barney do his magic on the Rocket. Amazing transformation ! One thing hasn't changed over the years and that is the amount of hard labor that detailing requires. I'm interested to see how ceramic coatings are done on a matte finish. So much to learn at Delboy's Motorcycle University. Many thanks for schooling us Del and Penny. ❤👍👍

Nice new project. I would keep the batwing on the bike. Really beautiful design and add protection when riding. Since it is a british bike do the threads are imperial or metric? To paint the chromed parts black how would you do that?
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 2 ай бұрын
Thanks mate, all Triumph threads are metric, I think the change over was between the old company in the 1970's into the new company in the 90's. And painting the chrome is the same as painting any metal, you scuff it up with abrasvies, then etch prime and paint... will be doing it shortly!

So we have 2 project bikes now (we being the supportive bunch watching on carefully haha) Anyway as I was enjoying the progress of the XJR1300 and the sensible advice on budget I was wondering if this new project was on a separate budget or if it taken over from the Yamaha's budget. Good luck with em looking forward to the rest next upload 👍🏻👍🏻
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 Ай бұрын
One of the reasons for setting a sensible budget on the XJR (Back shortly after the Rocket interlude), was not only to keep the bike from ending up worth less than the sum of it's parts, but also to allow a little financial room for other interesting content at the same time.. ! Thank's for your kind support mate.. much appreciated.

Hi del good to see you brought in detailing at the start of your resto gives you agood starting point and where to go from there. Recently done some rattle can paint spraying on my 2014 T100 thanks to watching your good self. Was contemplating doing the exausts so when I heard you mention you were going to paint yours I will wait until you give a very detailed instructional video on how to in the near future along with some crisp camera work from Penny before I press the button. I am depending on you m8😂

Hi John, Yes we split the full detailing treatment in half.. this was the first part, just a thorough clean and polish up the chrome (and still a full day) the second part will be a full ACF treatment and Ceramic coat to finish the job. The exhaust renovation is next up in two parts, so you won't have to wait long.

Yeah, I've got a lot of love for the detailers of the world. Whenever I got a new (to me) car I'd get a detailer in, just for a great starting point. If you sprayed the bowls of the headlights body colour, I don't think that'd be a bad thing. There is a lot of chrome around there as is and it'll break it up nicely...

I have a 2010 Speed Triple I'm bringing back from the dead (with some great help from friends) and it does have some engine case corrosion so this is very timely.

Hi Del & Penny hope you are having a great week. WOW mate, looks magic, Barney has done an excellent job and I do like it better with out the fairing. Take care, Cheers

Thanks mate👍, i think so too, it's a huge bike and the fairing took the attention off the giant proportions a bit.. plus, the huge front end keeps most of the wind off you anyway..lol! vhave a great week too mate, D&Px

Cheers Paul, having ridden it a bit more, it turns out that the front of the bike's so wide and high in front of you, that you truly don't need a fairing, it's like riding along on a barn lol

Lovely turnaround Del! This is why I went for training on detailing last year with Sonax - you can literally add hundreds in value to any vehicle from learning the right techniques, chemicals to use and an afternoon. I have made the money back on the course many times over sorting out paintwork on friends and family members cars and my own bikes without visiting a bodyshop.

Absolutely mate.. it has become a science and a complete industry.. what a fabukous outcome already, and not even done any coatings yet.

It's currently a work in progress Frank, we only cleaned the bike and used no coatings or protection due to the plans to paint parts... but we will be going back after that for a full ACF and Ceramic coating, this will then complete the job and ill get the bill.. and of course, ill share that with you all. But for now you can check out his Facebook page in the link below for more details..
