I've always been a lover of History, World History, Ancient China, Japan, Asia, and the Wild West. Love reading and hearing stories of any western history. I acquired the nickname of Cowboy when I was 15 living in Pennsylvania where I reside today. I spent a lot of time when Trucking out West and explored some, here and there. Good story. Another reason to hide a still way back in the mountains is because of the smell. When the mash is fermenting it puts off a strong smell that carries quite a distance. You don't want anyone to pick up on that smell, or your still site will be discovered.

Great story, guys! You know I tried moonshine once at work on a swing shift a guy brought a glass of it up to my face and asked me if I wanted some moonshine. Twas the smoothest alcoholic beverage I can ever remember. I didn't ask how he got it and he didn't tell. Another video full of interesting information about our state. 👍👍👍

More good stories. Thanks. Some of the whiskey produced was bad, others actually pretty good. I was fortunate enough to try some of the good stuff produced by former still operators. One's trick to get proper color was to put butter in a cast iron skillet to caramelize it. Added good color. One lived across a hay field from the rail road. The train would stop and the crew and any safe passengers crossed the field in mid day to make their purchases.

From the location of my still you can see the military trail but from the military trail you can't see the location of my still.....I think?? Lol
