I don't own the rights to this movie. The bakery scene from the movie Moonstruck. Seriously, the most hilarious scene ever.

This is the most tormented man I have ever known. I'm in love with this man, but he doesn't know it. He could never love anyone since he lost his hand and his girl. (I was waiting for that line, one of my favorites in the movie. But they cut it off just before Chrissy said it.) This is by far my favorite movie of all time!

hahaha i don't know if u have to be Italian to get this scene, but it helps. so so so many loud, dramatic scenes i remember growing up, including me. my grandfather silent, my grandmother endlessly provoking him, my sister and i delivering these epic soliloquies, and my mother doing her best to mollify us (or silence/punish us if we were out of line). that's why a scene like this is so comical.
@diamondbackqueen8 жыл бұрын
This is my favorite scene, when something isn't going on our way my friend and I will break out with "Johnny has hand" that's our cue that our argument for our not getting what we want is ridiculous. What I love about this scene is we all see ourselves in it because trust me this kind of drama is not exclusive to just Italians ha ha ha.
@Kylopod4 жыл бұрын
It's funny, because the writer was John Patrick Shanley, who was not Italian but Irish. His screenplay was based on growing up in an ethnic community in New York, and I guess he found enough similarities between Irish and Italian communities to make it believable.

If Cage went for straight seething rage in this scene it would have just ruined it. You have to remember this is a comedy. His eccentricity paired with his anguish is what makes the delivery so wonderful.

Yes Mr. Cage, there is the virility, the volatility, the brazen originality, etc,, etc., etc...But above all there is the artistry. What a superb artist you are!

This is a beautiful scene. Nic Cage is a great, wonderful actor. This is an exquisite representation of what resentment looks and feels like. I wrote an article on Yahoo! on this scene and the message that I take from the film: Let go of old resentments: You'll feel better. Laugh Away Resentment with an Oscar Winner: Moonstruck (1987) A Life-Changing Life Lesson from a Hilarious LOL Comedy

@Kylopod4 жыл бұрын
This along with Raising Arizona were the first films I ever saw Cage in, so I assumed he was a talented up-and-coming actor with tremendous promise; this was followed by years of disillusionment as I saw how bad an actor he could be. And it isn't a case like, say, Johnny Depp, of an actor who lets his fame get to his head and jumps the shark. Cage displayed these tendencies even back in the '80s; for example, I think he nearly ruined Peggy Sue Got Married, which came out a year before this film. He seems to have one primary mode, even in this film, but some directors are just somehow able to use it and make it work.

Should have been nominated for best actor for his role. Michael Douglas should have not won for Wall street . I haven't watched his performance. But this, it screams Oscar win and nomination. Just goes to show you that there is bias in picking and selecting the nominees and the winner.

in real life Crissy would never like him and would treat him like crap while 20 other guys would be chasing her... maybe it different in 1987 in NYC... maybe women were caring to a guy who is angry
@musicaltheatergeek796 жыл бұрын
Methinks you're projecting what you would do in her case onto Chrissy, but there have always been and will continue to be women who are doormats to men. Not saying ALL women are like that, but there ARE women like that, and vice versa. Even today.
@dannac_88885 жыл бұрын
musicaltheatergeek79 Absolutely. It's physics actually. Literally people are drawn to balance that other person out. If they're angry you want them happy. Shy-you get chatty people to open them up.
