Weinstein’s people put systems in place so huge talents like Meryl wouldn’t know according to Cher and common sense. Do you think someone with such ethic and human dignity would cover up a crime like that? There are so many other big studios who would kill to have her, she hasn’t had to audition since the 80s because roles ARE WRITTEN for her. And after 3 Oscars, a trillion Golden Globes, Baftas... 9 more Oscar nods than Nicholson, who holds second place? Does she need the guy? NO. So don’t be ignorant and go for the bait, shameful

+9th Marquess Sometimes in life all the stars are lined up in your favor. Like a basketball team gets gets a missing piece to win a championship. I have loved CHER since 11 over 35 years now. Also the reaction from the crowd makes me kinda tear up. She has always been and under dog. Singing acting TV whatever. So Its nice to see people except you and a few be happy for some one. This Is a stupid ass conversation anyway. Its not CHER"s fault Glenn Close does not have and Oscar. MOVE ON!!!!

At 0:56, Meryl looks gorgeous in the audience, the best she's looked! Cher has a worried look on her face bc she knows she's up against four outstanding performances (I saw them all). Actually anyone who saw Sally Kirkland in "Anna" will remember her performance, but not enough people saw that movie.

I love Cher and I love her in Moonstruck. But if Glen Close wasn't a guaranteed win that year I don't know what was. It's unbelievable but I think the feel-good aspect of Moonstruck was a deciding factor even though Close's performance was unquestioned. I've always loved Cher's acting chops, as most comedians really do rise to task of serious Oscar worthy performances. In a perfect world the 1987 Best Female Actor should've been a tie.

people claiming Glenn Close was robbed clearly: a) haven't seen the rest of the nominees b) have no idea how awards season worked back then (and still does) Being generous Glenn was most likely 3rd at best. Holly Hunter won all the critics awards that year, Sally Kirkland surprisingly won the Golden Globe over Glenn (which at the time was the most important precursor of the season) thanks to a very clever campaign, Cher had among other things: *the advantage of being in not only a Best Picture nominee that also won 2 more Oscars, also had Witches of Eastwick and Suspect that year *she was at the top of stardom not only as actress, but also as singer, because around that time (november 10, 1987) her 18th album was released and people knew her since her days with Sonny Bono *had the factor of being snubbed for Mask in 85, for which she won the Best Actress prize at Cannes *was a previous nominee for Silkwood *worked with directors such as Mike Nichols, Robert Altman and Peter Bogdanovich, so clearly Hollywood was not going to resist the opportunity to validate her as serious actress. so this nomination and win didn't come out of nowhere and as iconic Glenn's performance is (and to be clear, i really like), she was not going to win for a role so unsympathetic in a movie that was rather divisive at the time regardless of being a box office hit, a lot of people truly hated Fatal Attraction and that was decisive.
@davidclark85432 ай бұрын
Well thought & fair. Only basing on who was best & not your other crucial factors, Glenn Close would've won for the acting performance alone. The unsympathetic, thriller downer of Fatal Attraction definitely affected her chances compared to the romantic, feel-good Moonstruck & Cher's top of the world run she was enjoying

Snap out of it!! The only good (and lame) line Cher could have said in that movie. Her performance was average... she cried like Mary Pickford in Coquette (Nobody believes her crying, so overreacting). Glenn Close should have won for giving one of the most complex and unbelievable performances in film's history. What happened to Meryl Streep?? She is one of my favorite actresses, but come on, Meryl!!! You were quite better than Cher... If Close didn't won, you should have been the winner!!!!

She says her first film was with Meryl Streep. She is wrong. Her first film was 1981's "Come back to the 5 and dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean." If you want to get really down to it, her first feature was with sonny in 1967's "Good Times."
