I had a car that was gifted to me by my Grandpa, who was the first owner. I had loved his car since I could walk, literally, and he knew it. Grandpa cared for it meticulously all those years. It was garage kept except once a week for a short drive to keep everything working and the seals in tact. He bought it off the showroom floor in ‘66 from Klauson Bros Chrysler Plymouth in Wheaton, Il. as he lived in West Chicago at that time, originally from Danville, Il. In 1982 Grandpa moved back to Danville, Il, so in 1984 upon my HS graduation he drove up for the occasion to Toledo, OH. A few weeks later my parents told me we were driving down to see Grandpa. Of course after we got there, one of the first things I had to do was to see my old friend in his spotless garage, and there it was still as perfect and new as ever. The next morning Grandpa and I were up early for breakfast, and he says, “I have to go to the hardware store for a spark plug for the lawn mower, so why don’t you go with me?” Mom is just looking at me while smiling not saying a word. Out in the garage my eyes are still on “the” car, as I walk over to his brand new New Yorker, ready to get in, and Grandpa says, “why don’t we take the BARRACUDA?” I can’t contain myself because throughout my entire life I had never been for a ride in it; just then as I’m opening the passenger door, he says, “how are you going to drive it from that side?” He hands me the key and I SHIT MY PANTS!! LOL Later back at his house he invited me to drive in around the house to the back yard to wash it, and while we all spent the afternoon visiting, while they were on the patio I washed every inch, waxed it detailed it all in and out, happily. It was a great weekend seeing Grandpa again and also spending more personal time with that car than I had ever gotten to before. The next day just before we left for the 8 hour drive home, Grandpa says, “I think it’s time for you to take your Barracuda home with you.” Little did I know this whole trip was planned around it! I don’t think I stopped smiling the entire drive home, just me and my 1966 Formula S Barracuda, 23,000 miles, automatic, console shift, Citron Gold with white Formula S stripe, mist green interior and all of it’s chrome just gleaming in my eyes on that sunny day

The hold-down bolt/threaded rod is supposed to route through the wheel center, then the jack base is slipped on INVERTED so that the hump of the jack goes down into the wheel center, then the wing nut snugs down onto the bottom of the jack. I am very surprised any MOPAR enthusiast would not know that. My dad was a Chrysler guy and owned a base model 1962 Plymouth, 1966 Chrysler Newport, 1971 Satellite and a 1973 Chrysler Newport - each bought new - all had similarly stored spare tires and bumper jacks. Dad bought his 1971 Satellite new in '71 and I had a 1973 Charger that I bought from my sister in 1981. Both spare tires were stored the same. It's a Chrysler system that they used for a long time. I changed a lot of flat tires as a kid in the late '60s and early '70s with those bumper jacks along side the road. DANGEROUS SUCKERS!!. The old bias ply tires were not nearly as durable and puncture resistant as today's modern radial tires. I saw my first Michelin Radial tires in 1973. BTW, the lug wrench is also the lever for the jack ratchet.

GAS) **Mechanics/ Owner ordered my “new , to USA, RADIAL TIres *( **BFG??, “, I actually forgotten brand, POSITIVELY ) ,set of four, for my 1961 GALAXIE Convertible, in Fall 1967, on my way to Pharmacy School Purdue ……,& actually drove Fairly, good*( considering 61 Ford)……..Have a memory of Special Monroe Shocks in front( in those days, these two Mechanics simply done All the work needed, & “ billed Us”….Family Friends)… I done a lot of Driving in those days…….Mechanic Jim , wanted better grips( esp Wet, hi speed) & gas Mileages ( less rolling resistance),,,,,,,,,,Etc.

Some episodes just jump off the screen at you, this was one of them. The excitement of finding a 1971 Plymouth Roadrunner in such pristine condition and the unique add on features...wow. But finding out how they were added is like going on an archeological dig. Congratulations to Zack and his lovely wife on the birth of their child. Back in 1980 I bought a 71 Plymouth Satellite 2 door. It only had the 318, auto but it had A/C and that was pretty much it. I was my daily driver for 12 years. It was the best daily driver car I have ever owned. Seeing this Road Runner sure brought back memories of my old Satellite! Great video man!

My late uncle had a '71 Roadrunner, HIGHLY optioned with a 440-6 pack. The only thing it didn't have was the flip up hood vent. It had 2 vertical vents that said "440". It was kind of a medium blue with black graphics. I've never been a huge mopar guy, but I loved that car as a kid! The roadrunner on the horn, the roadrunner graphic, etc. I'd love to have that car today!

I've got a 1970 AAR Cuda. 340 - 6 barrel,4 speed,8 3/4 sur grip rear and Factory sport wheels. I bought it for $300 in Midland Texas. Numbers matching car also. But here's the gag. It was totally disassembled. All of the parts and the engine and all the drive train was there. Previous owner was going to turn it into a Pro-Touring car. Got it apart and realized he was in over his head. and lost interest. I use to drive truck down there and a employee of Pepsi in Midland got to talking shop. And said a guy he new was selling a old Mopar. He hooked me up with the guy . And bought the car from him. He was getting divorced so he was a motivated seller. I owned my truck but I borrowed their semi trailer and took it to where it was setting. Spent three days loading up the car and everything to it. I got it home and set about putting it back together. Took two years to get it back in one piece. Didn't restore the car just rebuilt the engine, trans and rear end. It's still wearing it's original maple leaf green metallic paint and all the factory decals. Clear coated to stop oxidation of the paint a the decals. Just serviced it and performed all of the up keep and maintenance on it. 31yrs and counting and still drive it around.

My neighbor growing up had a 71 GTX 440 clone drag car his wife was the driver with several NHRA records until the kid count got to 8 then they got another driver. They also ran a Duster 440 and a 68 barracuda. It was fun watching them prep and load up for the weekend. Beautiful car you got today

Back in 1973 when I was 17 and still in high school I bought a 1971 silver Satellite Plus. Sadly it only had the 318 two barrel but it had power steering , power disc brakes, AC cloth bucket seats with console and rally gauges and rim blow steering wheel. Day two I installed a Craig Powerplay under the dash AM-FM cassette deck and Jensen coaxial speakers which was easy because after you took the spare tire out you had tons of room in the trunk. For those that don't know Mopars of that vintage didn't use a standard radio so you would have to butcher the dash to put in any aftermarket one. As I remember I paid $1995.00 for the car from River Oaks Dodge in Peoria Illinois.

I had a 73 charger,white with butterscotch top. It had a 318. My brother put on a 440 in it from a new Yorker. The engine bay was packed by it. Zero room. It went like snot . I raced cops ,hit 145,148 mph,got home and engine died. I had just purchased from a friend a 440vmagnum and tranny brand new rebuilt . It was stunning. After racing cops and getting away . Lucky! I was a wild in my 20ties. So I reluctantly knew I had to sell it or get arrested or die. Good times. I just sold my 86 mustang with 27 thousand kilometers on it. Mint totally stock. But it became a burden . I'd rather mountain bike or fish. I love the roar and ripping.

At 17 in 1983 I purchased a 71 Satellite Sebring Plus that was a factory 383, 4-speed, bucket seat console with Rally Dash… it was tired but original. Sad to say but it developed a motor issue and I sold it for $350 😮 !! Well I’ve had another one now for 20 years the same setup except it’s a bench seat. I love it and am surprised how much the 71-72 B bodies are overlooked… they really drive great Surprisingly everything a RR would have except a strobe and spoilers & magnum 500’s which were optional

I love MOPARs. I know I’m the minority from most of my circle but when you do MOPAR justice like this episode, it made me happy. I called Chrysler on my 300C 2005 and they gave me the exact number made like that one, which BTtW, looks better then than the new ones. 1111 Had to keep her after that. She’s darn near mint. Only mod I did was replace the door lights with those cool LED lights that emit 300C signia on the ground when you open the door.

I am glad Dennis got this car. Because he passed it on to someone else who also knew what it was and is worth. I keep in mind that Dennis is at the end of the day a salesman and business man. He not only does this because he likes it, but he does this to make money and his living. To the seller, this is just his friend’s car, it’s not a memorial. It was just an asset passed down from his friend he needed to do something with. So he sold it to Dennis. He moved on.

I myself can go either way, depending on the circumstances. And the car. I am reminded of the 72 sassy green Cuda Richard Rawlings bought that was a top to bottom perfect restoration of the 340 Cuda and then totally botched it up by cutting it up, modernizing it with more motor, stupid ugly over size wheels and tires and basically ruined it, because he wanted to toss a big middle finger to anyone who loved those beautifully restored cars and spend big money doing it and then dumped it like yesterdays newspaper.

My brother bought a 1974 road runner black with red stripes on the hood. It had a three speed in the floor with a bench seat from the factory. A 318cu. One thing I remember though is it could only be started when the seat belt was fastened. A safety feature from the factory. Strange. He it in the 1980s. Pretty car . Mopar magic 🎩. Neat episode. I always enjoy coffee walks. ❤

The 1971/72 road runner are one of my favorite body styles I use to have a 72 road runner with 440 auto plumb crazy with black interior. That was back when Mopars were affordable and they were not so collectable. I would love to get another one someday

The strobe stripe on this car is actually unique, and was pretty obviously dealer installed. Ordered without the stripe, '71 Road Runners came with a metal Road Runner badge with a decal bird over it over the rear wheels, as this car still has. If ordered with the strobe stripe, there would be no badge and the bird is in the last section of the stripe, as can be seen in the brochure at 42:11 in the video. So what the dealer did was install the stripe, but leave off the last section, the one with the bird in it. It marries up with the bird and the badge on the car very nicely. First time I’ve ever seen that done. Also of note: This car does have a rallye dash. All ’71 Road Runners had the rallye dash, which was the fake woodgrain with the round gauges. The standard dash had a strip speedometer and gauges and was standard on the Satellite. There were three rally dash versions though: The base version is the one in this car. There was also a version with a clock in the non-speedo large opening, and then there was also the tach version, which had a tach in that spot. The tach version is the most wanted, and the rarest, but they all three are rallye dashes.

Me too man I had a 1972 Dodge charger and I had a 1973 Dodge charger the 1973 charger was a special edition I love these cars so much I want to get one once more before I die but as you say they caused so much it's just like when I collect a comic books and baseball cards and old toys the value of those things have gone up so much too so how's everything else in the whole damn country if not world but I like to get one summer one day when I get my inheritance from my aunt I just hope I'm not too old enough to enjoy it I hear there's a couple places here in New Jersey and South Jersey they actually sell them as if you will buy a brand new car you just make payments on it every month and the insurance

I grew up with a friend who has an original red with hockey stripe 1973 "runner" whos dad bought it new. Dave put a cheap 440 in it back in early 1990s. It was never better than a 13.30s car but the coolness dripped all over.

71's drove and handled really,really good!!! I buy sell Mopar usually and keep a few,I had a slick original 71 GTX 440 (same as a Road Runner ) the car was amazing to drive..I needed extra money for a new shop circa 1999,so I sold it.. I did buy a few other 71-74's over the years but none were totally original,not restored as the 71 GTX was,you cant beat a true low mileage original car(it had 98,500 original)..I have a beautiful 72 Satelite Sebring Plus with a p code 400 4barrel,3.23 gears,slap stik,tach,150 mph speedo,all the performance Road Runner goodies but a Satelite and in Tawny Gold.Car has 150,000 original miles 1 repaint and I rebuild the 400,but it runs/drives tight and as new as can be,no rattles or shakes or squeaks...Silver at the bottom,tawny gold and black interior..2nd owner,custom ordered car.

Nice find. For the spare tire. Spare tire back side up with bolt through the center hole with the jackstand bottom facing up with bolt through the hole in center and then wingnut. The transmission should have the VIN on it also. On the drivers side pan rail.
