Those letters after the part numbers are for minor revisions or engineering changes which may be nothing more than a change in suppliers or sub-contractors. Sometimes they will have the same part spec'd but change who makes it for them. I think they started that in the early 2000's after the Diamler merge. They had cam kits and changed grinders and lifter suppliers so each one got a different suffix letter. I'm sure the difference in this case is different filter manufacturers. Looks like a good enough filter for the first change. Most of that junk was probably left over after the machining operations on the block that didn't all get cleaned out. Kind of big pieces, most likely aluminum. It'll probably be all cleaned out by the 2nd or 3rd change.

@@dwendt44 They used a different system for colored parts, interior parts had a 4 digit part 'type' code and then a 3 digit color code suffix. Replacement body parts, soft or hard, were always plain and had to be finished in the body color.

That metallic junk is why when my mom got her 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the dealer suggested the first oil change get done at 2000 miles. My mom had never heard that before, and she bought other cars brand new.

Looks like a typical Purolator-made filter (except for that bypass valve). Most of the metal in the filter is probably bearing material, which won't be magnetic.

By the way, oil filters aren't the only thing that Mopar does that "AA, AB, AC" thing on. For example, I had to replace the crankshaft position sensor on my 2000 jeep cherokee and ran into this "AA" and "AB" thing and found out there really was no difference except the ab was the latest generation of the same part. It seems to be some sort of part revision identification thing.

I have the exact same filter sitting in my garage. Says Factory Installed, Made in USA, and everything. Only difference is that it came off of my 2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio when I changed the oil at the 4,552 mile mark. My car was built in Italy, so its interesting that they ship oil filters from the US to Italy, install them on freshly built cars, and then ship the cars all over the world to their new owners, instead of using an oil filter made locally in Italy.

My Challenger R/T uses this filter, but I've opted to use Wix XP filters instead after finding out about the nitrile anti-drain. Even though I keep my change intervals to 5k, I also live in an area where single digit degree days are common in the winter months. While I like the overall build of the Mopar filter, for a few bucks more I'll spring for a more premium option.

So I used to do exactly what you did, untill I discovered the SRT filter. It's MO-041. Little pricey, but I've been getting them for like $15 lately. Made by wix I believe. Their is an equivalent wix filter that's cheaper, but I don't know the part number. Filter is visibly larger and supposedly has higher flow for "track use"

Debris being in the first filter first oil change is not unheard of normally. How change oil the brand new motor? Pretty darn quick. Like just a handful of miles or less. But I always do the next change 500 after and then I go into a normal oil change pattern. Yeah but a brand new car off the lot. I'll drop the oil soon as I get home. Then I'll use what I feel necessary for a good breaking. Then when I go into my normal oil change pattern I use what I I would use until the end life of the vehicle.

Purolator made Mopar FF, looks pretty good at 3400 mi. As for efficiency, very unlikely to find that info. Generally speaking, the OEMs keep that information as proprietary. @@AntonioPerez-hv1lp I've been cutting used filters open after use since 2008. Also, I regularly read a website where many members cut open filters, used and virgin. Lastly, used many Purolator and Puro made filters. Here the oblong inlet holes, flat compression spring design and bypass design are some clues.
