Moped Tour through Kyrgyzstan, goodbye Puch Maxi? (for now) | Maxi Touring Moped travel

4th Country on the Trip, I finally reach Kyrgyzstan and traverse the whole country to get into Tadjikistan. In 8 days I cover 1200km, however not all of them are done on my trusty Puch Maxi Moped, since I wanted to go to the Pamir Mountains with roads above 4000m I had to get a replacement for 2 weeks, because I knew the Maxi just couldn't do that.
In 2018 I did this trip where I shipped my Moped to Mongolia and rode it all the Way back home to Austria. In 3 Months I covered 13.000 kilometers crossed the Mongolian steppes and went through the Pamir Mountains. All in all it was an awesome adventure I wouldn't want to miss.

Ha ha, I like how those cyclists didn't regard you as a real "traveller". No special gear or fancy travel clothes. Your man didn't even stop to talk to you. Honda super cub is a great bike , super reliable....Have you considered going to. a somewhat larger bike??? maybe 125cc or 250cc. I have a 229cc Chinese clone of a Honda...and it runs pretty good....thank for the video. Love them.

No worries, the maxi is still doing fine. And regarding upcoming adventures, I am currently working on a new budget and besides that the whole pandemic thing is making overland travel extremely complicated and unpredictable. I really hope this calms down in the next few months.

@@thomash4447 Hi, thanks for the support. It's honestly hard to say, yes I have some ideas, but my last one got a bit scrambled due to international event. Not so much Russia honestly, but Iran and the general price hikes have made shipping bikes a lot more expensive, so right now I am working and saving up some cash.

I didn't expect a four stroke on your adventure, but I love it! To bad you don't keep it for the rest of the journey 😀 Which did you like the best, the Puch or the Honda? Found your channel through your comment on one of Pedro Mota's videos. Love that you travel on a small cc bike, to few does that and even fewer document it. So keep the videos coming 😀 You should however add a little subtitle when the wind noise or other factors make it impossible to hear what you say in the video :)

Thanks, there definitely are more videos coming ;) Honestly they are different, I love the Puch, the Honda is better suited for that sort of Terrain though, both are easy to maintain and hard to break. It really comes down to personal preference I'd say :D I have subtitles on all the videos available, for this one they are not yet perfect, still have to go over them one more time. In the bottom right of the video appears a black bar where you can select the quality and there you can activate the subtitles as well.

​@@maxitouring I know, just don't like to have subtitle on all the time, but a forced little subtitle on the small part that no one hear would be great :D Did you have any problem with an AM license, or do you maybe have an A license? I got a Chinese copy of the Honda Innova/wave with a 114cc engine, runs great. This summer I am building a 249cc moped on a Chuanl offroad 50 frame I hope to one day do a bit of travel on. Just hope my cbr250r engine won't be to big for my liking :D

I have an A license but that wasn't really an issue. Most of These countries treated Mopeds like bicycles, No Registration, No license needed. Thats why i was worried about getting into tadjikistan, because the Honda has No Papiers and No licenseplate.

I guess technically speaking that's correct, but every country has it's own twists, here in Austria everything under 50cc is by law classified as "moped" ;) but thanks for the support :D

@@maxitouring Yeah, the legal definition of "moped" varies hugely from state to state here in the US; in my state (Michigan) anything under 100cc with an automatic transmission is a moped, but they also weirdly limit them to 30mph (~50 kph), but everyone ignores that.

Hi, I'm planning to go on a similar route (but more on the south through turkey and in the opposite direction) with my Puch X50-4 this year. (I'm also from Austria) Since it also involves a lot of high altitude, I wonder what the problem with the Maxi was and why you switched to the 4 stroke, is it really the thin air or was it something different? I wonder if it's a good idea to take an oversized carburetor with me, wouldn't something like that work? Thanks in advance for your answer!

Well first of all I hope Border Crossings will be a lot easier then, currently I wouldn't do overland travel. The Maxi just didn't have enough power with my luggage and weight. With more gears it should be possible though. No the oversized carb won't do anything, the engine can't get more since the inlet restricts it and the important thing is the mixture air to fuel, bigger jets should be enough. but you'll always lose power no matter which vehicle.

@@maxitouring I'm very optimistic about the future, border restrictions are the only thing holding me back right now, otherwise I'd be already standing on the side of the road swearing and trying to fix my moped in the middle of nowhere. I'm glad it was only a lack of power that was the issue, if the X50-4 engine can do something well, then it's moving 300kg of weight up a steep hill with 3kph. The E50 has advantages but it really sucks at that, I don't even wanna know how much you had to pedal on your trip. Also thanks a lot for the info about the bigger carburetor, it's not that easy to find someone who knows about the struggle of taking a Puch Moped to such altitudes ^^

@@yerst2 I see haha. Well the e50 is basically indestructible and has the least moving parts. A bit of pedaling but not that much, I do avoid pedaling and rather walk next to the moped, much easier.

The Blue one is a 50cc 4 stroke the black/orange one is a 50cc 2 stroke

@@jxc-biking2365 hard to say, those two were really different the 4 stroke had 3 gears and therefore a higher end speed than the 2stroke which only has 1 gear.

Hat die C50 wirklich nennenswert mehr Leistung als die Maxi? Weil so richtige Kraftmeier sind die Dinger ja auch nicht.

Ja is kein Kraftpaket, aber dadurch dass ich da 3 Gänge hab hats schon einen Unterschied gemacht, plus die wurde von Vergaser auf Einspritzung umgerüstet was man in der Höhe echt gemerkt hat. Mehr Leistung als die Maxi eben gar nicht aber halt anderst abrufbar, und da ist die Maxi mit 1 Gang deutlich im Nachteil.

@@maxitouringOk gut, 1 Gang ist natürlich schon hart, ich bin halt mit meiner handgerissenen Zweigang-X30 leistungsmäßig verwöhnt, wenn man das bei so ner Kiste sagen kann. Aber egal, es kommt ja eh nicht so sehr aufs Fahrzeug an sondern auf die Reise. Wie immer: Danke fürs mitnehmen!
