Just close your eyes Can you remember? The generations not so long ago I feel the shameless urge that we must restore Our former king to his rightful throne And with me lords and maidens We wait for the chosen son's return I come alive It's a time for celebration Our will to restore Make our past become the future once more Still he lives! 2000 years have passed And still we're yearning for his return We fulfill a wishful prophecy And so the chanting begins: Hail Caesar, hail Caesar, we render unto you What is still yours Share the wish as it must be Our king and palace Mode it be Gods enslaved, traitors burning Might and splendor forever return

I have the lyrics for this song written all over my 8th grade yearbook. Looking back people must have thought I was a complete weirdo lol, but i was really well liked. Everyone knew I was a death metal freakazoid anyway so it was probably nothing. I had a Inner Thought shirt I made in graphic arts and all the chicks loved it so go figure. I used to get called "Gorguts" too haha! I was jacked and wearing Gorguts shirts and shit to school haha. I'm dyin...

There is something classical, operatic about the way Trey constructs his solos. Yes, he can shred, but he can also back off and play soulful hymns of great beauty if he wants to .

Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, I used to go to local music shows and parties and wait for all the bands to finish their bits. After all the music had been played, I'd plug in my Ibanez (which I still have to this day) and play this song from beginning to end, almost perfectly. Every metal head that knew the song would absolutely mark the hell out and loved it so much. That's as far as I ever got to playing in front of a crowd. Still love this song.

Each time that I'm listening this masterful jewel, I mentally travelled to the Ancient Rome, just when it began the Persecutions against christians, or also, ¡I imagine ovationing to the legion's commanders during its feasts of triumph!

There were no Christians when Julius Caesar was emperor. They wouldn’t be around for another 70 years or so. This is David Vincent’s ode to fascism.

Your ode to nothing is noted
@patrickniehus31322 жыл бұрын
@@matthewmartinez3596 well, whilst we're on the subject of anachronisms, there is nothing particularly fascist about Caesarism. The fasces is a symbol and represents an idea more suited to the Roman Republic than it is to the Empire of which Caesar is an example. Despotism, enlightened or not, is another political ideal altogether. But yes, I agree with you that Julius Caesar was unlikely to celebrate the burning of Christians, given that Christianity didn't even exist at the time. What I would hazard a guess Vincent is evoking here is the Nietzschean Superman, as he does so often in his lyrics; I can think of no other band which has recourse to Nietzschean ideas so consistently as MA....another reason amongst many why I love them....
@patrickniehus31322 жыл бұрын
Early Burzum, perhaps...but without the Nordic master race horseshit, of course...that is most definitely NOT Nietzschean....
