hey i think the blury texture fits well in to the ground, makes the effect seems more quick and adds to the meaning of the spell, i like it a lot! great vids btw!

I really hope you plan on doing more Breakdowns, they are amazingly educational, especially for ppl who are trying to get into VFX themself (

Thank you, these videos help give context to a realm that I am very unfamiliar with...VFX. I would say one of the reasons why it's hard to say morde didn't feel like he was "the source" of the effect until all the extra particals was probably because his animation is very subtle, if the champion had an overt stomp with a huge read the cracks would totally read as coming from them.

Really enjoyable video! Not a VFX artist myself but still, its always cool to see how other artists solve problems. Got yourself a sub!

Great video! One question though: Is there a special reason for so much unused space in the ground-crack texture? i know it's not a big deal with today's memory, but as a ocd-micro-optimization programer it really bugs me X) +it would slightly improve the resolution of the image itself

Thank you for these videos! They are most helpful and blessed! Question: do you use premultiplied alpha blend modes in your effects? And also, are any textures reused between effects of different champs?

Minor idea - for the first 2/3 I had trouble telling where in the timeline the effects were taking place. As you played it forwards & backwards, I couldn't easily tell which was the beginning & which was end, if you were at the end of the effect or in the middle, etc. Mostly during the psychedelic color shifting. I feel like it could've been handy to have a visible timeline scrubber at the bottom we could see going back and forth or looping, that could help contextualize the current frame. Maybe there's one slightly offscreen that could be included? Just a thought, love the videos!

This is really awesome thanks! Would it be possible to do a tutorial inside maya that shows how you plug everything in(for example how combined those textures)? also when animating the planes themselves, do you use a particle system, or do you hand animate each individual plane? It would really help :) Thanks again!

Great video, absolutely love your work! As a game art student I just love learning from professionals (especially on my favourite game!). I assume you work for Riot in Los Angeles? Since Riot has establishments all over the world, I really wonder how the art teams work together. Do offices take turns in champion VU for example, or do they all work on the same thing at once?

+Jason Keyser Thank you so much for your reply! I've always wondered this question and it's great I found you to answer it. It's been my dream to be a character designer at Riot, so it's good to know that that's only possible in LA.

first off, thank you for the great break downs. But as an artist to trying to apply my art to a 3D platform.. what software would you recommend? Blender, unity or other? I use illustrator, photoshop and Animate (flash) to do my art.

Hey I have a doubt, it's a little unrelated to this video but it's about League VFX so hope you can help. We came out with an idea for a Yasuo skin, we call it Samurai but it doesn't really matter. I'm not sure if you are aware of how swordmans act in anime, they act cool by just unsheathing the sword (without pulling it completely out aparently) and then they sheathe it. Boom the cut is done. Maybe this timing isn't completely possible to adapt to a game but that's another matter. So the question, we are aware that for rediability it can't just happen like that, so do you think VFX-wise, said animation/skill could somehow work? Maybe with and energy sized sword-ish particle that represent the swing without actually being the sword? Hope my point was clear, and I hope you could enlighten us. Apreciate you work and specially that you are taking your time to give us these insight. Keep it up!
@nearsea10269 жыл бұрын
+Jason Keyser True. Not being able to properly see the sheathing, which you won't because it would be tiny, really makes it almost impossible to be a really awesome feature. Thanks for your knowledge and vision of the real problem. I apreciate that you took the time to answer back. Regards.
