It's not a youtuber's joke, it actually is in Codex Gladiatoria, a 16th century (IIRC) German armored dueling manuscript. It became a running gag on Skallagrim's channel and pretty much everywhere else medieval-related, but the origin is a serious treatise for judicial duels. Why it is in there, no one reall knows. Maybe it's a joke, maybe the point is to throw something at your opponent to make them flinch and then rush in, maybe it's there to fool people who didn't study under whoever wrote the book.
