Word of caution with scouting units. Playing both with and against Orks, they will charge anything and everything. I’ve had opponents put out units like Kroot, Scarabs or Scout Sentinels to screen me out. Actually what’s just happened is, they’ve allowed me to get a turn 1 charge. My biggest tip is to keep stuff out of charge range until the last minute. Then push up until you are about an inch away. It takes away any extra charge movement they would have gained. If you can also get them stuck out in the open as a result, that’s even better.

I always use Kommandos hiding in the mid board to guarantee early charges as they can't be overwatched.

To add to the conversation, Ork Boys will have Nobs with claws and Snaggas are anti-vehicle, screen your tanks! When I play as an Ork player against guard, it is weird being outnumbered. Guard players should leverage this, and win on points. Also while Orks are a bit tough, they have poor saves, your laz fire can be fairly effective due to the sheer volume of shots.

Having one or two deep strike units should help by forcing the ork player to keep units other than gretchins in the back.

Best way to deal with ork hirds I’ve found with any of my army’s is yeeting angron at them . I’ve really struggled with my guard and custodes against them though for opposing reasons. This has been realy helpful

Guard/Gaunt infantry screens are exactly why i take burnaboyz these days. Clear the roads of speedbumps for the WAAAGH!

leman russ demolishers are good for pushing melee units. it can shoot while in combat so it is good for protecting your more important units from the melee orks.

On a budget, the Eradicator gets the same effect, though it's not as punchy.

Recieved a major bloody nose last week at the hands of a tournament ork player on a very terrain heavy board. He spammed those squig riders with the anti vehicle attacks and associated characters. I was barely able to do anything, tabled except for reinforcements by turn 5, had maybe 3 units able to direct fire turn one even though he went first. Also he killed a full strenght Leman Russ demolisher with 2/3 of a unit if flash gits, splitting fire....very frustrating game.

I played for the first time with orks in 10th edition, and it was so much fun. I even won agaisnt an opponent who always beats my imperial guard. Orks are specially dangerous if you don´t know their rules, and their WAAGH mechanic catches you by surprise. They are way faster than they look.

An Ork playing friend of mine bought a stompa for the hell of it. So I brought out a couple of Shadowswords. It was an interesting game 😄

1000 point tournament, 2nd game playing as the emperor’s true finest. Went up against a squig herd ORK army. Straken and his 20 catachans, along with scout sentinels on the left flank, Leman Russ Battle Tank holding the center with mortar team command blob in the rear, and Exterminator on the right flank, with 20 catachans and a chimera. Turn two WAAGH charge into my catachans and sentinels on the left, and my catachans on the right. Blew right through them. I made the mistake of trying to keep my sentinels alive with inspired command and having Straken order them to get +1 save. Should’ve saved the CP. managed to reinforcement the Sentinels but didn’t have enough CP to reinforce a 10 man blob of catachans which I needed to create a new screen. That might’ve been the game there. Managed to mortar and then deep strike with scions the backfield. He held both no man’s lands primaries by turn 3, I held his and mine deployment zone primaries. Not having the infantry to reinforce and screen out the squigs again, to keep my russes safe, essentially he ran through my backfield and that was game. Keep enough CP to reinforce so you can screen in waves if needed!

As a dirty dirty bug man, speed bumping is just about the only thing you can do. Most of the damage dealers and point holders are monsters and damn near everything has anti monster. If you show up with crusher stampede, you were signing up for a bad time but against orks you might as well not unpack.

Just be sure that your 'speed bumps' aren't actually slingshot. Give us a turn 1 charge to the middle then we can get a turn 2 charge into your deployment zone
