As a former BMW GS owner I found the best was to solve my reliability problems was to buy a Honda. Great bike when they run but I had more problems with my GS in the 3 years I owned it, than I’ve had throughout all the bikes I’ve owned in the last 20 years.

My 5 year old 1250GSA is still on its original battery. I have plugged in an intelligent charger since day one when it’s parked in the garage. Zero faults with the bike either. Had the suspension not healthy message a few times ride to nearest BMW place. Didn’t. Cleared code with my GS-911. Fantastic bike and I’m in no way trading up to the new 1300 GSA. Good luck with yours.

Had issues with my battery before bud but I do have a trickle charger I use every single time I’ve been out on the bike. As soon as it’s back in the garage it’s plugged in. The gator issue is a new one on me, not had any issues. Stick with the bike mate, because they’re brilliant👍🏻👍🏻

Their cars are the same! Programmed to return to the dealer! It’s business for them! If the Japanese can make reliable cars and bikes, why can’t the Europeans ?

Strange ... i had the same thing, dropped my bike off, picked it up two hours later, got to the end of the road about 30 feet, and got a flat rear tyre ... Blazing row at bmw ... they refused to sort it ... 3 weeks late sold the bike ... never again will i buy a bmw bike ... I've had a bmw bike in my garage for the last 17 years ... never again

Batteries die. It is a fact of life. They usually die at the most inopportune time. I pulled into the gas station in my RT, filled up, and then tried to start. Battery dead. Only 3 volts in it. Some of the cells inside it collapsed and shorted. Took 3 hours and a tow to get a new one. If you get more than 2 years from a battery these days your on a winner.
@lestersmyth6927 күн бұрын
I have heard of numerous similar battery incidents with the GS fortunately I’ve never experienced such with my own RT. I do leave the alarm deactivated when it’s parked up at home as my garage is alarmed likewise no tracker fitted perhaps this is the cause 🤔

I keep hearing all these problems with the 1250's. I've got the 1200gs exclusive, not had it that long but went for the 1200 as I had the 1200RT a while back and loved that engine. No problems at all with it, not one, so went for the 1200gs this time. Thinking about the 1250 though, but vids like this keep putting me off😂

Daft question but do you leave it on trickle charge when not in use ! I’ve got a new 1250 GSA and never leave it off charge for more than 3days if I’m not using it. I charge using an Optimate with a lead connected to the battery which takes seconds to connect, your bike should have the option for the campus lead which simply is plug and play. Hope this helps
@markc19676 күн бұрын
The driveshaft boot should not be like that. It’s likely a clip is broken or dislodged and the dealer should sort it. Re the battery, if the bike is a used one, it could have a tracker fitted, which has had its subscription cancelled. If this is the case, it could be continually searching for mobile signal, which puts extra drain on the bikes battery. It would be worth asking the dealer about this. Even with the issues, hope you enjoy it. I love mine 👍

I hear that 1200/50.s now have to have a new shaft fitted at 37k. Got a 50y old one. No shaft problem on that.
@Bazza475 күн бұрын
Do you have a tracker on your bike as that will drain your battery. I've always used an optimate 4 on all 3 of my GS' and never had a problem with flat batteries

Why do people still buy modern BMW’s I run a r80gs and 1150 gsa my old r100rs covered 400,000 miles before requiring a refresh no new bike could cover that mileage being used all year and no corrosion The dealer servicing is awful now too

No the feeling just got rid of my 2019 1250 GSA loved it the most relaxing comfortable and dearest bike I've had in 50yrs of biking but spent more time in bmw for recalls the final blow when exhaust valve stuck and bmw said it wasn't covered on my warranty so we parted company.

Greetings from N.I. I feel your pain I have a 2021 TB1250 GS , when it was not long new I hadn't used it for about 3 week's drove to local Tesco for Petrol approx 6 miles , filled the bike up then clic clic dead battery , girl from tesco run me home to get my car and it jump started right away ( couldn't be arsed waiting on BMW) . Had to put a new battery in at the start of 2024 same again, long story short the tracker is killing the battery and I got from N.N. An Optimate 4 Job done . Regards Robert.

If Vertu at Boldon are as bad with the bikes as they are with the cars stay well clear, mine went in for recall work came back with a dint in the bumper would not accept responsibility and the work they had to do on the recall had to be put right by an independent Plough Motors in Boldon

I took a 1250 gs out on a test ride from Boldon I know they claim to be the best adventure bike and ye they are a cracking looking bike and the suspension and handing are mint but when I had it out my mate was on his triumph tiger and I left my honda at vurtue but when I was out it had problems reading the key in my pocket a few times got me thinking a bit don't get es wrong lovely bike but my Honda hasn't missed a beat in 4 years and I've been all over on it all that tech just tbh scares me a bit more tech more to go wrong and BMW Boldon or any dealer just make figures up when it comes to service or repair I just find bikes don't need that much tech on my freinds keyless ignition on his tiger is a bit iffy at times I like I key ignition myself but I hope it puts itself right for you buddy and you get many fun miles

Mines the same pal. Bought from BMW dealer 4 months ago. 2 year warranty. Refused to start after fuelling. Dead battery. BMW charged battery and changed starter motor. Picked it up and replicated the fault. It doesn’t start in first gear with the clutch in (stand up). Technician told me that was ‘normal behaviour’ Absolute tosh. They then agreed the bike isn’t right but ‘you don’t stop and start in first gear anyway so what’s the problem?’ Very disappointed with BMW customer service. Sent a couple of emails and had no response. I love the bike. It’s fantastic. I’m pretty sure it’s the tracker that’s draining the battery. I’m less than enthusiastic with BMW customer service. To think I was eyeing up a new 1300GS when I was in the showroom. I definitely wont be doing that now. Very very poor. Good luck with yours mate 👍🏻

Micro switch on clutch is faulty. Not sure where you are, but I've used 2 dealers near me and had excellent service from both..

You have my sympathy however, i've had two to date covering 13000miles in 11 months on the last one with a 5000 mile trip touring Europe and perfect never missed a beat and super comfortable, lots of these miles were on trail with everything from river crossings, rocks, mud and sand. I would suggest just riding it everyday (if possible) and you'll never have a charging issue ever again 😉 they love being ridden. Friends with garage queen GS's talk of flat batteries and sticking exhaust valves 🤷♂🤦♂ so make of that what you will also know somebody with a 10 year old 1200 that has always been his commuter bike with 115000 miles and never missed a beat. Gone back to Tenere's now as no longer have BMW dealers in South Wales (the customer service was brilliant) at last service had six recalls !!?? on a two year old bike 🤷♂...... But the bikes are fantastic to ride and excel at everything, good luck 👍👍.

Not good that. I had a Suzuki 1250 Bandit for seven years still on original battery when i sold it , My Yamaha Tracer 900 the same at five years when i sold , both of those bikes were so called budget bikes to , BMW need to up there game
@ericstephenson36077 күн бұрын
Hopefully you've just been a bit unlucky, the volume of bikes they sell along there I suppose there's always going to be the odd one or two, the last 4 that I've had no bother at all, think it does pay to have some form of trickle charger on especially if like myself put away for the winter.

@ImJensenKing7 күн бұрын
Yup Scorpion trackers eat bike batteries went through two batteries on my GS but been fine after fitting a high amp Yuasa & binning the Scorpion for other tracking option. The GS needs high amp at cranking & usually needs at least a 15 mile run to just recover the cost of the initial starting pull. I had a Tracer with a Scorpion tracker had similar issues with battery drain but only had it for six months & it had to live on a tender.

I bought new 1350 gs 3 black , battery died after 7 months , took battery out stamped 2020 , another date 06/2021 made in China ! Seems my battery was older than my new bike !! Bmw Wouldn’t replace it under warranty. They said was because I had camera fitted which had its own internal battery !!! I bought a new battery japonese !! After 5 months latter they agreed to change it , I did email Berlin the main concessionaires and local bmw maybe that persuaded them ? I will say bmw customer care is 💩 shame because I love my gs but it does piss you off there attitude 😜
