I've found the turns go pretty quick. The GM knows when each players turn is over due to the final AP being used. It will be a bit slower at first as everyone is learning/modifying their play styles, however its so intuitive that people adapt pretty quickly. I highly recommend making a cheat sheet for everyone that showcases all Actions and Conditions.

There’s some real elegance in DC20. So many of the non-D20 game design ideas I’ve been trying to implement appear in DC20. I love the way this is going.

Great seeing more DC20 love. The system has been so fun to play test. It really opens the door to creativity and meaningful choices. I've found that once players get used to the rules that govern combat, things flow smoothly and turns don't feel long at all. There is so much back and forth as well as players looking for ways to assist each other.

Great video! Totally agree these four awesome rules. Spellcasting in general is one of my favorite parts of this system! You have a lot of mana to change and cast spells. But even when you have low mana spend limit enhancing cantrips with action points feels amazing. Weapon maneuvers are awesome as well. It makes different weapon types actually a tactical choice. I also agree with dwgautier knowing when people finish their turn speeds up turns a lot, and people can get into the groove once they know what actions are available to them.

The reason I like this system is that it crosses so many traditional lines. Paring down to only four attributes was a statement by itself.

For me the best thing is the 5 point ancestry system. It's so intuitive and you can make so many combinations with it. I just wish there where more - points. Also I would like to see how the monster stats looked. I hope the stats are as customizable as the other futures. I would also like to see some more powerful mounted combat rules. Mounted combat was so weak in 5e that most player use the horses just for traveling and that's a shame in a fantasy, medieval world. I would also like to know if the Dungeon Coach was in talk with other publishers to port their books in the future to dc20 for example the Tombs of Beasts or Drakenheim books. At least in pdf format if not physical. I would pay for a 30$ dc20 Tomb of Beast pdf rather then to convert the stats, spells and abilities myself

I'm not too keen on the 5 increments for success... why not have everything above the roll needed added to dam or success. you roll a 17 and needed a 13 so +4. too simple?

That would change the current balance of the game pretty substantially. If your weapon has a base damage of 2, but you can easily add 8 points to that with a high roll, the weapon type becomes almost irrelevant. Mind you, that’s how things work in my own homebrew game. I don’t dislike the approach you’re describing, but it would take a systemic rebalancing of DC20.

Design goal is to keep damage and hp from ballooning. Also counting by 5s is quick.

I feel Dnd is too bogged down with legacy traditions and "iconic" things in it to truly innovate anymore. it has to inherit flaws inherent in its design to stay "DnD". DC20 can re-examine and question fundamentals: like actions, like spell and resource systems. martial/magical classes, attributes. it cuts a lot of unneccassary cobwebs away.

But then... it's not a new game. It's just some homebrew stuff some will like and others won't. This is not game design, this is game refining, and to each their own. Good job on the business model, after all some percentage of people will like it, and since it's almost exactly the same as dnd and pf2, then that percentage will be a couple million people. So good one! Lots of money to the DC coach.

I don’t agree, for me the combination of rules is what makes the game. I mean, most cars have mostly the same parts, but they are all different parts because of how they are put together.

There are some pretty substantial differences. I suspect that the next D&D edition doesn’t have nearly the same level of mechanical difference. I think this has to happen. D&D isn’t the same game I played in 1979. The game has changed a lot in some ways, while retaining mechanics that don’t really facilitate the new style.

I have yet to really playtest it, but my guess is that in the beginning it might take longer but after a while the opposite will happen.
