I know it isn't a 1972 Dodge D300, but this truck reminds me of Squad 51, reason I say that is because this is the type of truck that was used in the famous television show "Emergency". The show was centered around 2 LA County Fire Department paramedics John Gage and Roy Desoto working out of a paramedic unit in the fictional Station 51. The cool thing about it was when the show ended, Universal handed the Squad over to the LA County Fire Department, where it was used as an actual squad for a number of years until it was retired and placed into the LA County Fire Museum in Bellflower California.

The electrical component mounted alongside the ballast resistor is the external "electronic voltage regulator" which controls the alternator output. PS: Unlike the electronic ignition system, the breaker points ignition system does not require the use of an electronic "control module".

Thanks for watching! Much appreciated insight and wisdom into the unit and its function versus electronic ignition

That is an outstanding first year model..3/4 ton camper special nicely optioned out with deluxe interior, stereo and factory a/c. It probably has the 9 1/4 twelve bolt heavy duty rear end as well. That truck will only appreciate in value as time goes by.

Thanks for watching! Aside from say a couple things... the 400 cubic inch motor, 4x4 and clock/tach separately, it is a very well optioned truck. Up til now it has been the only Adventurer SE I've ever seen ordered with a manual, let alone the NP445. The rear end is a Dana 60 with 4:56 gears. Looking at the actual differential housing, it has extra triangular metal braces welded into its case signifying it as an HD Dana 60... of which someone had told me there was a difference. I'm finished with restoring the interior of the truck, so now it's just a waiting game until I can save up the funds and time, for a proper repaint back to its original color scheme!

Ive been restoring a 72 d100, shortbed, for the last few years. Upgraded to a 440 and 3/4 ton suspension. Its been a ride.

Thanks for taking the time to watch the video! Sounds like quite the project given what that would entail for a short bed. Very cool as I have not seen but only a handful of short bed trucks at the local yard. Best of luck to you in your build!

Points as long as properly gapped with a good quality ignition coil and decent spark plugs and plug wires and the points ignition system will function great and is dependable..
@Macs_Garage

Agreed. I will keep the points ignition system in the truck so long as I have it.

I prefer the 72-73 grilles over all the other tin grille dodge trucks, and I love the camper special trim west coast mirrors the Chevy Ford and dodge trucks got, and the 72-74 is the only trucks that had the dodge nameplate on the dash til it was a design cue again in the mid 80's as 75-80 does not have the nameplate designation

From what I heard from another gentleman who had created a series of 'spotters guide' videos on the 3rd generation dodge trucks, sometime in the late 70s did they make the 72-73 tin grilles obsolete. Not to say that other grilles are also not remanufactured either, but an interesting tidbit at the least.

The coolant Reservoir from factory goes above radiator where you said a splash gaurd would be .
@Macs_Garage
@Macs_Garage 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! In the video at 4:52 I do mention that the vehicle does have the incorrect wiper washer fluid reservoir. Although not mentioned in this video, I believe in my trim update video on the channel, I do reference that the coolant reservoir is also incorrect and was a later add on. As far as I know my truck didn't come with the factory style jug that sits atop the radiator support, so I do have the correct style upper radiator splash guard on there now. If you did get the coolant reservoir from other trucks I've seen, 2 smaller splash shields would exist adjacent to the jug.

Chrysler was the first to offer Electronic Ignition. It was first offered on the 1973 model year.

Thanks for watching the video! As far as I've seen, there were earlier electronic ignition systems that were used in other products besides Chrysler, but much of these were intended for high performance setups. Chrysler developed their electronic ignition system in mid-1971 for I believe only 340 ci drivetrains with a manual transmission. Then it became an option for some models in 1972, the Dodge D series being one of them, and then the following year in 1973 it became standard for all Chrysler vehicles, which might be where you've got 1973 coming from. I think their push was heavily in part from the emissions standards and regulations that came about, and US vehicles as a whole moving away from high-performance to more fuel efficient/emissions stringent engines as the decade wore on.

Super cool I got a chance to buy a 72 with the 15,000 actual miles on it for under $4,000 runs and drives long bed I think I should pick it up?

Thanks for watching! I'd say so! Just given how pickups have been swept up in the classic car market, from everything I've seen, Dodge trucks are still relatively cheaper than the C/K series / F series trucks from the era. Best of luck to you in your find, very cool to hear!

I appreciate you watching the video! Ultimately, that is my goal as I'd like to restore the truck as close to factory as I can and I have not seen anything anywhere regarding a restoration back to factory for some of these early 3rd generation D-series trucks.

I recommend the parts catalog

Sorry, where would I find the parts catalog for this truck? I have one from LMR but aside from glass/body panels and other aftermarket upgrades, I can't find much that is a reproduction of oem equipment without buying things used and taken off of pre-existing trucks. I had just recently restored the woodgrain trim which I had bought from a gentleman off a truck in Oklahoma.

I've been looking for the chrome for the clutch and brake pedals for my truck for about 15 years now with no luck

Thanks for watching the video! So given your search, I do have to beg the question, did your truck come with them from the factory? Or is it the look of the chrome on the pedals that you're after?

Your taillight housings have the lower marker bulbs because the truck is a camper special. The extra lights were part of that pkg has nothing to do with being an SE.
@Macs_Garage
@Macs_Garage 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video! Hey, thanks for the clarification on that regarding the extra marker bulbs, I had some confusion on that given when I had gone to the junkyard to look for a tail light housing, the truck I pulled it off of was an Adventurer SE, but was not a Camper (maybe spliced in at some point), therefore I associated the light with the SE package. Also too I hadn't seen anywhere in some of the older sales ads talking specifically on the Camper Packages that these light were included. But now I know, much appreciated !

Yeah me too but I don't have the truck I was trying to locate them for.. and it ended up getting a set of 79 Chevy k20 Scottsdale hubcaps I hated that but I didn't want 80's model dodge and Ford dogdish hubcaps so ... yeah..

I definitely recommend using Facebook Marketplace groups. There are a couple of groups specifically for 72-93 Dodge trucks. Without using the group as a resource for trying to find specific parts, they wouldn't be on the truck you see in the video. I wish I'd have found out about it sooner. Could've saved me a couple years...@@richardbates2367

And I love the 72-77/78 regular truck bed taillights the middle of 78 has a taillight redesign and it's the same as the 80-87 dodge ram truck series.. i don't like those actually the 72-77/78 style truck bed has more styling and in my opinion looks more like it belongs on the truck

Some of the newer RAM and Dodge trucks (don't know which ones specifically) that I've seen have taillights which I think are a modern design for these early 72-mid78' taillights.

Thanks for watching! The last year for the "bird bath" hood scallops. I do really like the look of the vertical turn signal indicators integrated into the grille rather than on my truck within the lower valence panel. I'm still a long ways away from the full restoration of the truck, but be sure to check out some of the other videos on the channel, in case you'd like to see where it's been and where it's at currently. Always glad to hear that there are more out there! Best of luck to you and your truck!
