I've missed stencils so often that I decided to try lighting my plate with a torch (flashlight?) horizontally - it worked!

I've watched several of your videos now and enjoyed them all. Have you considered inking your plate and then putting down your stencils, pulling your print, and then removing your stencils? The stencils will not stick to your print because their top side (the side to the paper) would not have any paint on it. You would still remove them from your plate and you could pull ghost prints before and after you remove the stencils. Lastly, you can also use acrylic medium to pull prints so you only get the colors currently on the plate becaue the acrylic medium is clear.

I love your work! A tip to try: if the paper starts to tear, flip it over so the plate is on top and gently pull the plate off the paper while holding the paper down with your other hand. Thanks so much for uploading your videos.

If you are interested in a more transparent color, the gloss medium gives much more transparency. You may want or need to coat it with matte medium afterwards to get the final look you want, but it might be what you're looking for. I love your videos! I love your art, and thank you so much for sharing!!!! You are quite an inspiration!!

Suggestion:take a photo of the stencils with your phone before you apply the paint. That way you can check to see if you got them all. Love this piece!

It's interesting to see how things going "wrong" can result unexpected benefit, isn't it? Though not on a gelli plate, I've used clear matte gesso to soften and increase transparency of a color without creating a watercolor or a pastel. W&N makes one that looks milky but dries very clear. I like the texture gesso brings, but not at all sure how it would work on a gelli plate. It does reduce the shine of acrylic, so the acrylic can look more like a gouache.

I remember hearing somewhere that gesso is the one thing you should not use on a gelli plate. I think they said that gesso is too abrasive. Might be worth looking into before you wreck your gelli plate.

Gesso is not used in printmaking, it is more applicable to painting on canvas. You can however gesso your paper for textural effects if you like that look. Here's some more info on gesso www.artistsnetwork.com/artist-life/what-the-heck-is-gesso/
