The S&S 475 Cam is an excellent bolt-in Cam for HD M8 engines (107, 114, & 117) with broad power band. Not to be overlooked, the S&S 465 Cam is IMO the perfect cam for 2-up riding, hills, mountains, city, etc. on a Harley Touring Chassis Bike. Broad power band (like the 475) but comes on earlier in the rpm range. I can feel strong torque coming on below 2000 rpm and pulls well to 5000+ rpm. Tom M. '21RGS, RDRS, 114 Stage-2. (S&S 2-1 Sidewinder, Fuel Moto # 3956 A/C, Dynojet PV3b Tuner, Oil Cooler Fan, Trask M8 checkvent, more).

I agree with you as I have tried many different cams and the 475 is a great all around performer. But one thing that is important to any build or upgrade is the tuner and I don’t think I have seen any videos from you about what you use and tune your bikes with. Would love to hear about your experience with wide band and narrow band tuners.. thx

Nothing like a cam recommendation to cause some controversy! While I somewhat disagree, I've always considered the 475C as the Floyd Mayweather of M8 cams: pound for pound the best value. With cams, you rarely get power everywhere, but every once in a while, there is a cam that manages to deliver a good amount of power in the key spots. I think the 475C falls within that category. There are a tier of cams that are generally all within the same power range, and for most people looking for a cam in the 470+ lift area, it doesn't matter. I'll be running the T-Man 216-PS2, but the reason I admire the 475C is because if you haven't noticed, it's incredibly priced. S&S has priced that cam so well, that it's an ideal upgrade for someone who wants to do a full camchest makeover (i.e. pump, plate, pushrods, lifters, tappets, etc.). The value is undeniable, and anything by S&S is as good as gold. Now if you ask me, I think the Wood 22xe is a real brute. Look at the dyno sheets. It out performs every cam in the low, mid and high range. My gut tells me that the lift is problematic in the long-run, and that it could eventually do a number on your springs. Ahh well...More power! Lol

I have seen dyno charts of the S&S 475 cam and the Cycle Rama 483 cam with the same performance parts and the Cycle Rama 483 outperforms the 475 cams and pull harder throw the mid-range. That is why I chose the Cycle Rama 483 cam over the S&S 475 cam after looking at lots of Dyno charts of the Cycle Rama 483 cam and seeing my dyno chart with Cycle Rama 483 cam.

I just bought a 23’ heritage 114. Because of my luck, I purchased extended warranty. I was required to stay with Screamin eagle for my stage 2, but would absolutely consider the S&S. I hear it’s super popular, so that’s the only reason I’d do some deep research into something a little different. I just don’t like being like everyone else. My service tech said that I could potentially get another few % on top of what I’m sitting at now with a different tuner, but I’ll probably swap it all out in a couple years time.

I disagree because the 22XE beats it literally everywhere. Considerably better bottom end, at least matches the mid range, and beats it up top too. The only thing the 475 has on it is lope. I echo what another posted. My tuner tells me the S&S 475 is very exhaust sensitive. I presently run that cam. It feels lazy until 3300 RPM. The torque curves in most cases are not flat with this cam. A good tune will certainly help. It'll feel good when it does pick up but a cam that comes on early and stays flat longer is preferrable to me. I will be replacing with a WP475 or a 3030. Prove me wrong and I may change my opinion.

Consider the S&S billet oil pump. That hot rod quality pump factors in. S&S tappers and collars with adjustable pushrods. These parts from S&S are tried and true. The 475C kit from S&S has everything you need. The dyno tunes usually out perform the non-dyno tunes, but if you’re methodical you can eventually get a comparable tune without the dyno. 2 into 1 exhaust like Bassani RR seems to provide the back pressure these cams need. You may notice an O2 sensor engine code shortly after a tune that falls on the lean side, it’s not a huge problem though. Can’t stress how good that S&S billet oil pump is though.

I've never liked the S&S 475, the power band is too inconsistent. I prefer the Woods 22XE, take a look at the Torque curve, it's nearly flat across the RPM range.

I totally agree with you on this one. I have a 2021 Street Glide Special with a 114 and D&D exhaust with the s&s 475c. I made 131 Hp and 134 Torque with a good Dyno Tune. My bike out runs HD 131 kits all day long for half the price.

Do you have the vortex baffle or the big bore baffle on your d&d exhaust. I'm about to install this cam on my stage 4 114 and those numbers are impressive im thinking I should get a bit more with the stage 4 kit having head and intake and injectors.

Just wondering if you installed the cam itself, or the whole cam chest as well. I own the 2022 Road Glide ST 117. Fullsac header with khrome werks hp+ slip ons, and SE tuner. It comes from the factory with the SE torque cam but looking to upgrade! Your videos are very helpful! Thanx!!

Man, you must have hit the Harley lottery being able to go gear drive, given their tolerance is looser that Debbie. Still debating on if I wanna go 475 or the new Woods 22XD, I think yours are the highest numbers I've seen from the 475. I definitely know it's gonna need to be one of the 2, the m8 is lacking that drum track sound a Harley needs.

475c is a good cam. But there's far better out there. But if you don't back any cam with proper supporting mods you're not gonna get the best results. Like proper exhaust, intake , air cleaner and knowledgeable tuner, etc. look into max cell cams. You won't be disappointed.

The S&S 475 is a legit cam, although i hate to use this is " da best", there are many proven performers when it comes to the various cams available on the market and choosing a cam is very individual and is largely dependent on your riding style aswell as your build. Throwing horsepower/torque numbers around can be very deceptive, i have always used a factory basic stage 2 set up as a baseline number and build from there when it comes to a cam and my builds.The horsepower/torque are dependent on variables such as exhaust set up 2 into 1 , throttle body diameter, polished manifold, fuel injectors used, heads ported and polished ,air cleaner, camshaft lift durations centerline etc, gearing 46/49, tuner used, the dyno tuner himself makes a huge difference on and on to extract every possible pony. Fuel moto puts out a great cam presentation with the various cam with some generic set ups. My personal build is S&S 475 cam plate/oil pump, HPI 2 into 1 exhaust, Hpi TB 58 mm ,polished manifold HPI,5.5 injectors, cnc fuel rail, evolution clutch, manowar compensator, starr racing Trask assault air cleaner T-Man performance air breathers internal ,Trask transmission top cover, trask external air breather with a 114 ...and she FUCKIN RIPS...if ya think the 475 is the best wait till ya slide in a 550....whahoooooo...quick question at the beginning of the vid you mentioned you lifted the back end 2 " which spacer did you use or did you stack .. 2 one inch spacers?..Thanks for the vid really enjoy your stuff you do a great job..Cheers!!

While I appreciate the personal knowledge passed, I can't get over the infomercial-like lead up to the actual bit of info being passed, which was at 6:10 in the vid, w/ multiple stitches trying to give anticipation to the lead up. Not attempting to be disrespectful or overly critical, but I've seen multiple CF vids that do similar. Some things I was hoping for, I know it would make a longer vid, was showing some sheets w/ numbers to compare at least a few camshafts on the same platform to support your opinion, showing/talking further pros & cons to having a stock engine size w/ an upgraded cam w/ potentially different use, like short rides vs long distance, vs a bigger engine w/ similar cam. I've seen that Moonshine Harley has talked about the S&S .475 & how it's a go to cam for them for up to 124"/128" engines that won't be getting raw dogged to the limiter often. Additionally, I've seen Zippers mostly recommends their Redshift .472 for most applications vs the Redshift .468. Might be interesting to discuss the minute differences between those too. All in all, I appreciate the knowledge & time spent to put content together. Semper Fi from this Devil, Airman. :)

John, I have the Red Shift 468 on my 17 RGS and I like it but listening to your recommendation and the sound of your bike sounds like I might want to go that way. I'm using the stock pushrods. I also decated my stock pipe and have V& H 4" slip-ons that a friend gave to me when he went with big radius pipes. Did you change your push rods with the cam addition? I saw a RG with fishtails on it and cam work and it sounds bad.. I've always liked Fish tailpipes. Good cold weather garage vid brother.. :0). Red Shift 468 is a great cam, and I wouldn't swap it for the 475. It makes great low end torque and it performs just as well in the key spots. If you aren't riding at 6000 RPM, don't bother. It's not worth the extra 3-4 ponies. You have a great cam already!
@barrydawg7544
@barrydawg7544 Жыл бұрын
@@Smokedilla Thanks John for that advice. I really do like the cam and it did give me more ponies and torque. My stock header pipe minus the CAT helped with the heat on my wife's right foot. I like the sound and look of the 4" V & H cannons too as they aren't disgustingly loud but when you roll the throttle over it does have a good sound. Just have been kicking around whether it would be better to have a 2 into 1 to eliminate that crossover bend where heat builds up or to keep the look I have and sound. My days of riding over 100mph for an extended period of time are long gone. Don't get me wrong I do like merging on a 4-lane with my buddies and tearing it up with a good ramp to highway race, hitting triple digits blowing it out, and then backing down to a good 80mph run. LOL. Thanks again John,, be safe brother,,, Ole man Winter is upon us. DAWG from MO.

@@barrydawg7544 I’m a huge fan of 2-1 pipes. That said, nowadays there are crossover pipes that perform just as well. If you are into a crossover, check out Fuel Moto’s Jackpot 2-1-2, or Fulsac’s 2-1-2. Can’t lose with either one. If you’re ready to go 2-1, I personally think it comes down to the D&D Billet Cat, or the Fuel Moto Jackpot 2-1. Khromewerks seems to be gaining momentum as well. Can’t go wrong with either. Bottom line is that your cam seems perfect for your riding style. You can dial it in more by adjusting the other variables such as your head pipe, intake and most importantly, your tune. The latter is super important, and you can never beat a good dyno tune. Cheers.
