I had a "78 also, I retired it after 16,000 miles. I just became older. I modified it a lot for racing the neighborhood kids (tons of memories). I achieved 47mph on flat! Try opening up the stock tail pipe by cutting the rear section open and blowing out the two chamber pipes to relieve the back pressure (is key) and Patching the side back up. this will require a Oxy/Gas skills. Sounds real good. Also, I bored the Cylinder head 4 over, adjusted the reed valve guide a little more open, and used an more unrestrictive air intake (cold air intake). Keep the exhaust port free of carbon they clog up (very common problem). Remove and scrap/chip it out. Do the cylinder head as well. Replace the piston rings at the same time. NGK plug. The magneto points can cause a week fire if they are worn too. Good luck on this project.

I borrowed a 1979 orange-colored one of those from a family member back in the early 80s. On the flats, if I pulled my knees together, my elbows in and put myself into a tuck it would hold 35 mph all day no problem. I only weighed 150 pounds back then, so that's probably why. We once took the pair of them on a long day trip; from Lincoln, NH to Conway, NH and back again (70 miles round-trip) over NH State Rt. 112, a.k.a. Kancamagus Highway. A road with 1764' elevation gain and at times up to 7% grade for several miles. The bike ran flawlessly. As a newly-licensed 16 year old kid from Boston, I thought that adventure was a ton of FUN! I'm just glad nobody I knew saw me on that thing.

I had a friend that his grandfather got him the same one . We all had motorcross bikes and ran all over the country on them and a AMA track very close to home. He ran with us on that thing and it was alot tougher than we thought.

They're so much fun but slow as hell going uphills, try going one and a quarter turns out on the fuel/air mix screw as your base target and work from there.

true a little too much oil never hurt an engine
@EvanWells0711 күн бұрын
Yeah, it won't hurt it, but it's also not ideal. On the 2 strokes it will mess with the fuel ratio and can run better / worse depending on how close or far off it is. Since I'm not out here trying to race people, I think it will be ok :)

Mix fuel and oil 40:1.....Treatland spelled one word. Regards.
@prawny120098 ай бұрын
Pretty sure the nf75 (71cc) top end will bolt up, steel sleeved aluminium cylinder with bigger head. There have the same stroke as a lot of Honda 50 mopeds, eBay has some nf50/75 crank cases listed so the crankcases should be able to take the nf75 cylinder (71cc) The nf has an auto lube oil pump too.

Buds you cannot just pour oil into the tank to premix . I am from South Africa and I have 5 Honda Express bikes all 1981 models. You are supposed to mix the oil and fuel 40:1 beforehand in separate container. I have the last 3 fuel tanks in the world in my garage. One yellow one blue and one orange. I plan to build up or restore another 2. Treat land has the best after market parts. It is not it is what it is. You make it so. Regards.
@EvanWells0711 ай бұрын
I know that's not how I'm supposed to mix the oil, but it is what it is. I usually premix in a separate can, but was out of that, and only had regular gas (and not enough to bother mixing up in a can). I have seen the treat land stuff, just never picked up anything from them. If I do a big bore kit it will be from them.

My buddy had one with a chainsaw engine on it. The previous summer I bought a mini bike and a blaster engine and we spent weeks putting it together. That mini bike was a mean son of a bitch. During the winter we studded the tires with roofing screws on my mini bike and his atc250sx. Brought them out on a huge frozen lake and he broke his leg and I broke my hand pretty bad. Horrible idea even tho it was a blast to haul ass on the ice😂

Nice video! But on a bog standard 78 you should see 28 on the flat and up to 31 on a downhill GPS speed, with the mods you have you should be seeing better than 30 easily! There's a fundamental set up issue otherwise, don't forget weight only affects acceleration not top speed! Try a downhill run, if you can't top 30mph then there's an issue somewhere.
@EvanWells07 Жыл бұрын
@johnpage1922 what would be the setup issue though?
