Ned HAS to accept his fate. That look to Sansa and then to where he last saw Arya says it all. Trying to recant and expose Joffrey at that point would have endangered them both. You can see the resignation on his face as he understands he has to keep silent to save them.

I never noticed the first time I watched it (probably because I was in shock after "bring me his head!"), but Varys running up to Joffrey, presumably to get him to reconsider just cracks me up. Everything before & after that moment, Varys is just cool, calm and collected, but him panicking is hilarious to me for some reason

What I always love about the reactions to this scene is it's very telling of the reactors. I say that because there's some that just know Joffery isn't to be trusted and then there's others that are like, oh he's going to the Night's Watch.

Horrible, unjust, unfair, disgusting, you name it. However, there's some strong symbolism here: Ned was decapitated with his own sword, Ice. As soon as he told Cersei that he knew her children were bastards born from an incestuous relationship with Jamie, he was a dead man.

Ned wasn't very smart telling Cersei he knew her personal business,but,I'm guessing he didn't know the type of people he was dealing with and it cost him. Just like the reactors i was shocked the lead character got killed in the first season. I knew no one character was safe.

That was me during the first watch. When I was watching Bridgco's reactions, I learned that the actor that plays Ned is known for his characters being killed off. So the first time they saw Ned in episode 1, they were like, "Well, we know he dies." 😂 They still weren't prepared though.

Honestly, this moment shocked me more than the Red Wedding or how bad the last season got. Killing what had been basically the main character in the first season was a high voltage jolt to say the least.
