Hi folks, I just happened to talk to the Knipex product manager (I‘m from Germany) since - of course - I had the same idea, a smaller one, 160 mm = 6,3“. I was surprised when he told me how absolutely overwhelmed they are from the demand. The first 5 month all went to the U.S. only, was very happy to get mine today after 5 month delay. Lucky too, all the dealers will get their next batches in May or so. And there will be a smaller one in 2022... perhaps 2023. The capacities just can’t be expanded more, since Knipex makes some 1500 different types of pliers...

They need to shelve the other pliers and pump out what’s in demand and when that gets fulfilled, go back to making all those 1500 pliers…

I have pairs of small sizes of the Cobra and Pliers Wrench in different mobile kits in 150, 125 and 100mm sizes. If I could pick which mini size was produced first on these, it would be the 125mm. The 100mm XS versions are amazing engineering and will fit almost anywhere but there are unavoidable limitations when you get to that size. 125mm seems to be the smallest size possible to retain all the functionality of the larger sizes. You (Knipex) have probably already made your decision on which size(s) you'll bring out first...whatever you ship will fly out of inventory, I am sure. Great pliers - thank you.

Agreed! I know this is 3 years old thread. But Knipex Twin Grip is becoming one of my favorite tools ever. It's so useful that it earned a permanent place in my tool belt. So, Knipex, please make a smaller versions of it! First, please cut off an inch from the handle and release a 7 inch version so it fits nicely with 7 inch tools.

The longer I own the twingrip, the more i found uses for it, as an industrial electrician, i found myself using the twingrip more often than the lineman pliers. Twingrip are also great at breaking the tyraps. The only thing it doesnt have is cutters on it

Twin grips are amazing. Even though they are longer (200mm) than mini cobras, they are narrow, light, and they are straight as opposed to a side facing wrench, so I find them to be easily pocketable. I have them on me always.

I have a different thing for begging. Knipex multitool. No knife or saw or toothpick or scissors. BUT with Twingrip in 6 inch. Telescoping tube handles with hex drive bits iinside. And wire cutter blades in the jaws. I ALWAYS have my SAK for the other stuff, but solid versatile pliers would be great.

In the process of planning out a small tool kit for my wife’s car so when we take her car somewhere I’m not without a good set of tools to get emergency jobs done. That Milwaukee bag with random items is one of the best solutions I’ve seen this far. So much versatility in such a small space. Easily fits in the trunk with the spare tire. So it’s never in the way but always close by when the time comes.

I need to order the twin grips! I think my late grandpa would like them, except they don't have wire cutters, and if he couldn't cut bailing wire at any given time, he wouldn't carry it. Knipex has that to improve imho.

Wanted a set of these that I could put in my mini tool roll as carry-on gear when flying. I cut a pair of these down to about 6 1/2" so they're safely under the TSA 7" limit. It was easy and fast and I think the results actually work very well, though for my XL-glove hands it's now a 3-finger grip rather than four. I'll try to post a short video. There's an interesting trade-off between keeping the original size head and jaws and losing some grip space and leverage, on the one hand, and shrinking the jaws and gaining longer grips. I also think you could reprofile the handles and have the best of both worlds.

this is true but the tool may not be viable in such a small size. look how thin the one jaw gets already with the room for screw extraction, and how small/sharp the teeth are in the jaws. they'd need to put a lot of money into redesigning the tool to make it strong enough in such a compact size - i doubt the twingrip pliers will become popular enough unfortunately to warrant the R&D required.
@dannymaciejewski
@dannymaciejewski 2 жыл бұрын
@@pbakai182 knipex are leaders in the plier industry. I’m confident they can scale it down, I don’t see anything too thin at all and remember when the tool gets smaller the user can apply less force to the components because you have less leverage. I think they WILL become popular enough for them to do it!

I’ve often though a shrunk twin grip Down to the 4-5” range like you said but have the back of the jaw be the cutter could damn near put leather man out of business. For me, it would be the TwinGrip. I found the mini plier wrench to be too limiting compared to the mini Cobra. The plierwrench doesn't open as far, and won't grab well on non-parallel sided things. Plus the adjustment requires more dexterity so it takes longer to use. Finally, the plier wrench has fewer first aid applications as far as I can tell.

Agreed, a smaller pair of Twingrips would be amazing! I do handyman work in NYC and carry all my tools in a backpack, one which is way too heavy (to the point where I've actually injured myself from carrying it..). I recently swapped a small pair of Engineer / Vampliers for the Twingrip, I couldn't resist the improved quality and versatility of Knipex, but I carry them mostly for screw extraction, and it's a huge jump in size and weight for something I only use rarely (since I also carry a pair of Cobras, a pliers wrench, a needlenose, and often a pair of Linesman and/or Knipex forged wire strippers..) They could make the Twingrips a lot smaller and lighter and they'd still do everything I need and more, be much more useful, and I could leave the big ones at home. An XS, stripped-down version (like the XS Cobra) would also be awesome and a great EDC item, more useful than the XS Cobras, but that would be a lower priority than a smaller full-featured version.

Doubt it will work. It would need to be designed small from the ground up. I tried cutting pliers down to a smaller size and it doesn’t work. Here’s the video: Size Matters: Making and Testing My Own Stubby Tools at Last Best Tool kzbin.info/www/bejne/aH7SmHmAfdKMjNU

I've watched a knipex produced video where the main guy in charge of R & D in Germany was talking to the main guy in North America and he pronounced it with the K silent as you would. It's just like knudesen or knife. So pretty please would you stop saying "Ka-Nipex" it's just Nipex or Knipex. It's a silent K. What kind of doctor is this guy anyways?

He is correct in saying that the k is not silent. Knipex have put out a dumbed down pronunciation guide, giving a easy way for non-germans to get close to the correct pronunciation. The K is not silent. But the word is actually only two syllables long. The first syllable is a consonant blend, with the k and n plus the vowel sound ee. The marketing people at Knipex have actually put out a t-shirt stating that it is pronounced Kuh-nip-ex, however it is never said that way in the German Language. It is all good brand name recognition for them, and they get to laugh at all the pedants who get it wrong.

@@1lupus whatever but in America as in North America the k is silent. How do I know? See comment above. His mama called him Clay. Imma call him Clay. If the top guy in North America when speaking to the CEO in Germany is going to say Nipex then you can bet your sweet ass it's Nipex.

These pliers are “neat” ‘n everything but it’s just.. they’re not that special. Reason? They’re just straight cobras…. Take a set of Knipex Cobra’s and bend the head straight forward and grind some lines on the tip of the mouth for screws (I guess)… and you got the very famed Knipex Cobra’s that everyone has loved for years and years all over the world. I’ve got three Cobra’s (and a 10” “Pliers Wrench”), two 10” and a 7’1/4 or whatever they are, just seems like I don’t need to spend $50 when they’re just straight Cobra’s, ya know?

@@seanrobinson6407 lol I’ve made some knives and stuff but how I was talking about “bending the head straight” etc. was for the sake of argument. I’m just saying all these pliers are, are just just straight Knipex Cobras. That if you took a pair of Knipex Cobras and bent the head straight you’d have these $50 pliers that everybody’s raving about. Just use your Cobras… AND you don’t have to wait for Knipex to make smaller versions of these pliers that everyone is clamoring for, just get the smaller or larger Cobras that suit your needs ‘cause they make Cobras in just about every size and they’re in-stock on Amazon right now, you don’t have to wait. 😎

overrated crap. knipex makes something and everyone runs to buy them. OP you could not even explain why they are so useful, they are specialty pliers for screw extraction, they do not replace regular slip joints.
