Okay, I definitely feel your points about the last opinion. One of my biggest issues with Taylor's new album was that to me it felt like it was prioritising tea and gossip about her relationships rather than making an actually good album. Imo if she made the choice to not date anyone for a long time, and instead take an extended break to have some completely new experiences, she might have some more interesting things to write about.

Her life and just her feelings and thoughts about where her life going on I Hate It Here, I Can Do It With A Broken Heart, The Prophecy, The Manuscript. I feel like if an artist wants to focus on a certain part of their discography, they should make the set list public when they promote the tour. That way people will know what they're in for and the artist can do what they want. there could still be a surprise element to the show by adding songs/mashups that weren't publicly announced. I guess the biggest hit from this is profit, a fear of less people buying your tickets because you aren't performing a song you've performed a million times over/don't like anymore. But they could also make more money doing a separate tour with a more broad concept. like Melanie Martinez touring for portals specifically and then following that with the trilogy tour, a mashup of her entire discography. idk I just think artists aren't obligated to perform songs they don't like anymore just because it's popular. I understand from the consumer stand point, tho. edit: I wanted to add that sometimes the songs people beg artists to do carry an emotional weight with them. like ppl will beg for an artist to constantly sing the most depressing song they've ever written then get mad when they say no. or that they publicly said the song reminds them of a dark period of their life and they hate performing it, and ppl be like "womp womp sing." I can't think of a specific example but i know this happens I seent it

I disagree so strongly with that last opinion from @ rickG913 omg. It makes so much sense to me that love is the most popular narrative found in songs. Not only is it the most popular in music but one the most consumed genres across all media (books, tv and movies). Because it's universal! The only thing I might ever have in common with billionaire Taylor S or any other multi-millionaire artist is that I have a crush, that I'm in love with someone, that I got cheated on, that I just broke up with someone. It's a universal experience in the middle of the completely different lives we all live. And even some of the artists mentioned have consistently explored other themes. Beyonce with race, Ariana with grief and anxiety/ptsd, and SZA with being insecure and coming of age stories (please really listen to Saturn or CTRL). Those songs that aren't about relationships are out there. Not discrediting the fact that pop culture and parasocial relationships do influence which songs top the charts or not, but I also believe some songs are popular for a reason (they're good) and being about love doesn't make the artists less deserving of popularity!

I think what bothers me about some talking about Taylor Swift’s music is that not all of her songs are about her relationships with people. Most are, but most are also about what she observes in other people’s relationships and literature. One example is wildest dreams. It is based on reading Richard Burton and elizabeth taylor’s relationship. There was a fun video by Jack Edwards where he dissects all the literary references of Folkore and Evermore which makes her songs more interesting. I get artists shouldn’t only write about relationships and I get some of the Taylor swift hate, but don’t get why they think every song of hers is about a personal relationship.

I also agree that the single choice, not just the lead, is a bit weird, they don't choose the single that is the most representative or a song with strong elements that can be found through-out the disc. I don't really have an unpopular opinion, but I do have some recommendations for those that are looking for new music, HERE WE GO: Maquillada En La Cama by Julianna Gattas (Argentina's very own queen of pop), What Now by Brittany Howard, Girl With No Face by Allie X, You Like Music by death's dynamic shroud & Galen Tipton, Only God Was Above Us by Vampire Weekend, She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She by Chelsea Wolfe, Imaginary Conversations by Kevin Coleman, Silence Is Lound by Nia Archives, Bright Future by Adrianne Lenker, SCRAPYARD by Quadeca, Prelude To Ectasy The Last Dinner Party, I Will Be Pretty When I Die (self titled ep), Satisfire by Six Sex, Slow Burn by Baby Rose & BADBADNOTGOOD, Club Shy by Shygirl, Like a Ribbon by John Glacier, Connla's Well by Maruja, Hyperdrama by Justice, All Born Screaming by St. Vincent, Fearless Movement by Kamasi Washington, A Dream Is All We Known by The Lemon Twigs, Pull The Rope by Ibibio Sound Machine, Funeral For Justice by Mdou Moctar, What A Devastating Turn Of Events ny Rachel Chinouriri, Here In The Pitch by Jessica Pratt, Tidal Memory Exo by Iglooghost, for the rest of your life by twikipedia, You Won't Go Until You're Supposed To by Knocked Loose, Britpop by A. Beyoncé is one of my favorite artists of all time and Toni Braxton is one of my favorite divas from the 90's. Omg i remember singing her songs so much alone in my room when i was just a kid, pretending that i had a heartbreak too😂 I love your vídeos Naomi,❤

I'm starting to see the narrative that Ariana doesn't have her own artistry and that Victoria made her career. This could not be further from the truth. Ariana is literally one of the most musically gifted and talented people to like ever exist...from singing to songwriting, from vocal arranging to producing, she can and does do do it all. Victoria is a great artist in her own right and was heavily involved from Sweetener to Positions, but Ariana changing up her team was necessary. Her sound got a little bit stale and the lyrics have been quite lazy at times. Vocally and sonically Eternal Sunshine is just as strong as Ariana's past few efforts where it differentiates itself though is the songwriting and song structure. Those are things that I was missing from Positions in particular so not to be shady but I personally think ditching the team of Victoria Monet, Tayla Parx and Tommy Brown was a not only great but a necessary decision for her music.

As I do agree with your statement I will point out that Victoria also helped write a few songs from my everything as well but some of the songs she wrote weren’t added to the album.
@truly_dewey6 ай бұрын
Yea honestly. A lot of people associate Ariana's style more with Vic's influence. But that doesn't mean she doesn't have her own recognizable musical touches. I am actually super happy that she stepped away from working with Vic mainly because many people considered Positions to be more of the same and treading the same ground as her previous music. People tend to like positions as an album more now, but I do believe her changing up her team will stop her music from sounding so samey.

Most songs I like have nothing to do with romantic relationships! Mental health stuff, friendships, connections to life and work, etc have always really spoken to me more than forever relationship stuff. As a creative I’ve also almost never written about my relationships - they don’t inspire me to create - so I find it strange how much relationship content there can be in todays music landscape

Not sure if they count but I know there’s a good amount of famous siblings on Broadway who are famous for their own merits rather than being famous because of their famous siblings. Corey Cott and Casey Cott (Casey even had a pretty big role in Riverdale if I remember correctly) come to mind as well as Arielle Jacobs and her brother Adam Jacobs who have both had starring roles of their own in pretty popular shows.

As someone who has done acting for 12 years and is in the process of releasing music, people need to stop expecting certain personalities from artists. Yes, I agree that if you have built up a personality or public persona for yourself than it is your job to carry that though in interviews, PR, and meet and greets, whether you're an actor, singer or even TikTokker/KZbinr. The issue thatI have is that people will criticize when these celebrities have "off days". If they're not acting their typical way, most likely they don't feel good or they're feeling drained, and that's ok, they're huma. But unfortunately, the public does not see them as humans and the public expect them to be at 1000% 1000% of the time. However, if you're an actor and you play a character and are know for it, people should not be expected to be their character in real life. They signed on to play that role, that character is not them, so don't expect them to be like that in interviews. Even with singers, sometimes they put all their energy into performing when in their private lives they're just naturall quiet, reserved people, and they performance personality is a moment that they exude all their energy for, and when they act like themselves in, people always say they're boring or whatever. Not everyone is in private who they are in public. Britney Spears is a lively performer but she's admitted that she's naturally more reserved and withdrawn. If that's your natural personality, it should be ok for them to be themselves in interviews. To answer your question, the only non-nepo baby siblings who have the same amount of hype are the Ziegler sisters (Maddie and Mackenzie), from Dance Moms. While on the show they faced a lot of comparisons, but since they left, they have gone into completely different fields of work and in my opinion have amassed a similar level of success just in different fields. Mackenzie is an up-and-coming pop singer, popular among teens and has potential to become a big star. Maddie, although she originally had a big jump ahead of Mackenzie, by being in multiple Sia music videos as a dancer, overall, Maddie has carved out a lane for herself as a promising actress with some great credits to her name and she is also rising in popularity, with potential to be a household name. I feel like the have (relatively) the same amount of success, just in different fields, which might be why they have managed this because they aren't completing in the same market. I feel like most "famous siblings" end up in the same or similar lanes, which is why comparisons might halt or stunt the grow of one sibling. And to your point about breakup songs or PR Driven songs, I 100% agree. There is so much more to write about than breakups and/or love. You can have deep meaning music or insightful songs without going through heartbreak (ex. I've learned my self-worth after you treated me like shit). It's such as tired narrative and I'm shocked that so many artists can pull in money and numbers by continuing to release album after album and song after song about love and breakups. That's one reason I can't get behind Taylor Swift anymore (not that I was ever a fan per say). 90% of her songs are about the men that fucked her over and how she can't find love. How many albums can you possibly make with songs like that before people lose interest? I love the new artist Brakence because he writes thought-provoking songs about self-discovery and self-worth but it comes from a very philosophical self-aware perspective where it's not all about "trauma made be become a bad bitch". People need to stop writing so many breakup songs, like, can you not find musical inspiration from something else? Can you not create a meaningful song that doesn't villainize someone else? I get that breakup songs have their audience, but right now, it's just on overload.

26:30 Billie Eilish is releasing a semi-surprise album next month with no lead singles. There's like 20 seconds of snippets, it sounds totally different than her other work. Honestly, as a huge fan of her voice and writing, and I'm super excited for this new sound, I hate her for making me wait but it's smart and the suspense feels cool. I will say that I wish artists would just... Not announce the album if it's a surprise release. Just announce it like 1-3 days early maybe with 0-1 singles or a snippet or two, so you can give people a chance to get excited and get talking, but not grow impatient by announcing albums like a year in advance only to push it back 4 times. Stop doing that!

yeah i disagree with the singles take. a lot of time artists switch up production/genres and i'd like a little peek to know what's up lol. but i do believe there's need to be a discussion about rushed rollouts and too many singles. for example; conan gray is one of my favorite artists but it really frustrates me how he puts out like 5 or 6 singles, not even including long snippets of other tracks, before the album rollout. when you finally receive the project you've already heard half of it. i need one to get a little taste, two is being very lovely & generous, but please do not give me three.

I’m kind of a hypocrite bc I did actually like Dua Lipa’s new album, lol. As for the opinion about sales/stream stats being undisclosed- I think that would be a catastrophic thing for the industry. Like 95% of music fans, I’m of the opinion that they don’t reflect the quality of an artist’s work- if I like it, it was a flop to you, not to me. But for creatives and people working on the technical side this would hinder their ability to negotiate payments and song credits. Just as we saw with film/tv writers when Netflix refused to disclose viewership numbers. Also what would happen if a larger artist claimed the #10 spot and then a smaller artist fact checked them? Who is going to be believed? What are crazy stans going to do when ‘a flop loser’ is “coming for their fave”?

Eternal Sunshine is not one of the top three Ariana albums for me; it doesn't do it for me, and the writing was very elementary school for me. I really didn’t expect this from Max Martin. And also, some of the song productions sound muffled for some reason, and I'm just a fan of Ariana's vocals, like it's giving a little innocent girl no confidence in her vocals. I do love and listen to a lot of songs from the album, and Max Martin is not aging out; he’s just working with the new generation sound, and some producers don’t know what to do with it.

I soo agree with the relationship songs one. Like do these artists not have anything happen to them besides relationships? Y'all are literally celebrities come on there's gotta be SOMETHING else to write about. Y'all don't have friends? Family? Inner thoughts? Idk, I like to write songs as a hobby and most of them aren't about anything romantic (granted I don't ever have anything romantic going on in my life, but what I mean is there are topics outside of relationships).
