This leprechaun shoe thing is interesting. In some cases leprechaun are portrayed as cobblers by trade. In others they are often seen repairing their shoes from wearing them out running around playing pranks. Some lore says that when they are repairing their shoes is the best time to catch them for their blessing. My guess is since leprechauns are generally considered fairies and fairies have weird weaknesses (like having to count every grain if something spills) so they probably combined those concepts into him being a fairy who compulsively has to repair shoes.

The reason Warwick Davis wasn't in origins is because they changed the character to more of a mindless monster like the cave creature in the movie "the descent" and because after 2003 when he had children he said he relooked at how he took roles and plans on going back to horror when his son turns 18. His son was 14 or 15 when leprechaun returns came out in 2018

My brother and I watched this movie a LOT when I was very young and I just recently rewatched it for the first time in at least 20 years. I still love it and think the ridiculousness is what makes it funny. It was originally going to be a more lighthearted movie closer to like Gremlins, but then they took it down a bit of a different route, so that may be where a disconnect comes in for some people. When it came out on VHS there was a "Luck of the Irish" contest (you can find the commercial for it here on YT) and one of the prizes was a unique leprechaun doll/figure, of which only 200 were made. My brother didn't win one in the contest but 20 years after that, he found one in a pile of random toys at a flea market and bought it for like $5 so in a way that was even more lucky than winning the contest.

So Lucky Charms had originally agreed that the film could use its cereal and brand in the film. But then they watched it and it's dogshit. So they revoked permission because they didn't want the association. This forced the filmmakers to do reshoots to take the cereal box out. The filmmakers were super irritated by this, huge waste of money (i don't remember if it sent them over budget). So they added in the line at the end "Fuck you Lucky Charms."

I fully appreciate you sharing your opinions and experience, and i really appreciate Mike trying to talk about the positive things, but I hate when you act like your opinion is right. "I think some of you are blinded by nostalgia." Amanda said it best when she described it as Baby's First Horror. Its a goosebumps episode. It's meant for people who want to watch horror movies with the lights on. It's similar to Gremlins in that way. And the fact that you dont find it funny or scary enough doesn't automatically mean people who enjoy it are blinded by nostalgia, it means you're either unwilling or incapable of empathizing with the audience at the time. I'm sure you'd also hate Critters, so please don't bother yourself with ruining that too. Not everything from the 80s and 90s needs to be looked at with 2020's eyes. It's like you're eating pixy sticks and complaining they have no nutritional value. And just to compare, Nightmare on Elm Street and Child's Play had heavy themes and actually tried to make quality psychological thrillers with moments of comedy/camp/horror. Leprechaun is not that. Stop comparing stories about children who are/were being abused and the parents who dont believe them - with the story of an evil Leprechaun. It's like comparing the People Under The Stairs to the Garbage Pail Kids just bc they're both found in the horror aisle.
