It is so fascinating hear these stories by Vance. Rulon is my grandfather. I never met him because my grandmother was his first wife. She never stopped loving him… broke her heart. She raised 3 wonderful children and was a great lady. I have been privileged to meet many of my aunts and uncles, including Vance. Wonderful people who are so easy to love.

Athlene Allred is my great Grandmother and it always fascinates me to hear people talk about her when she was younger. People say wonderful things about her. I didn’t get to meet the cheerful wonderful woman they describe. She was so grumpy and awful from my view 😂. It’s nice to hear about her in another light. And Lynn Thompson is my grandfather. I appreciate acknowledgment of the abuse he and his brother Joe committed. I feel like I don’t have a mother because of their abuse, despite her physically still being here.

Oh my this is so interesting to me as a historian lol! It's so wonderful to see the convoluted nature of the historians mind! We are trained to see so many "truths" at one time that we can both disprove something and believe it and nothing about that is wrong to us! It makes me so happy to see others who feel this way. So happy I went back to watch these episodes! Very fascinating!

Fascinating to me. One of my ancestors arrived in SLC around 1849, on his way to the gold fields, became a mormon and was a polygamist with 4 wives. How did he manage that, I don't know what his privileged status was. He was a young man when he arrived. Fascinating.

I hope Mr Allred watches himself on these videos. Maybe his contradictions and inconsistencies will jump out at him in bold relief like they do for us.

My dear Uncle Vance makes the claim that Fundamentalist Mormons do not believe in grace, though the church believes in Grace after all that they can do. Though I love my Uncle Vance, I cannot wrap my brain around that claim. I was taught by a father who continuously taught his children the joy of knowing that Christ will make up the difference and I have taught my children the same. I can only speak for myself however. I enjoyed these interviews. 2 Nephi 2: 8-9 8 Wherefore, how great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth, that they may know that there is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God, save it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah, who layeth down his life according to the flesh, and taketh it again by the power of the Spirit, that he may bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, being the first that should rise. 9 Wherefore, he is the firstfruits unto God, inasmuch as he shall make intercession for all the children of men; and they that believe in him shall be saved.

What is all you can do? How do you measure your work? How can you ever measure up? I never heard that you had to work to earn grace until recently. I always thought that Jesus died on the cross so that we didn't have to anything more than believe and ask him into our hearts and be baptized. I wonder who said "after all you can do" Is it in The Bible or The Book of Mormon? Salvation is a gift that God gives us. I think of it like givning my child a gift. I love her no matter what she does. If I give her a gift it isn't something she has to earn, I just give it to her from my heart. There is nothing my daughter could ever do to earn my love. My love is freely given to her. Salvation is the same thing. A gift given to us because of the sacrifice Jesus paid. I hope that makes sense.

I don't think he's scattered brained in the least. He is excited by a topic that he's spent decades learning, researching, and questioning. And he's trying to sum it up in a few hours. That is not an easy ask.
