I think not. American mothers would be packing lunchboxes full of Twinkies and chips and preservatives and highly concentrated sugar filled juice. Sandwiches made of white bread. All pre made. tT is rare in the western world that mothers prep meals like this for their children's day at School.

My goodness!!!! The lunches were beautiful!! A work of art. Here in the States, if a child gets a lunch packed at home at all, it’s usually a PBJ, some fruit, perhaps some chips and a drink. The breakfast was also very interesting and delicious looking. To do all of that AND get them out the door on time is quite a feat. Again, this is a remarkable woman. Hats off to her!!!

I miss those hectic days now. My twins are in college and suddenly I have all this time in the morning! Of course it was hard and stressful managing getting them ready, packing lunches, and making a good breakfast all while I got ready for work, but it is hard to adapt to no stress all of a sudden. Their school did not offer any real hot lunch, so I packed their lunches all through upper school as well. I switched to Japanese-style breakfasts when my children were about 10, I think. Their lunch break wasn’t until 13:00, and their school day started at 07:45, so even with a substantial snack break mid-morning, they were starving by 13:00. Switching from eggs and toast to miso soup, rice, and fish seemed to keep them full longer and made them less fidgety. They still had oatmeal and cream of wheat, and eggs sometimes, but we ate a lot of fish and rice. The only thing I hated about it was all the dirty dishes I had to face when we came home after school and work. Don’t get me wrong, American breakfasts can be both healthy and satisfying, but for some reason, rice, soup, and fish got us through so much.
