Yeah but Agadmator saying that Alireza played Qf5 to pin the pawn is deceptive, because the main intention of the move is to attack Magnus's rook. It really has nothing to do with pinning his pawn, because after Magnus addresses the immediate threat, the pawn is still not pinned.

Because these are the best players in the world and if they recapture that way you have two passed pawns but you don't recapture the free knight... In agadmators line you take the pawn back with tempo. It's super complicated and can not be seen in full at the time they need to see it

@kcdarookie

I would say after Rxf2 you need to move the black queen and for white Rook and Queen are nicely aligned to capture f7 with check, you can even double up with Ref1 and if you ever play f6 it will be met with g6 which would be aweful with queen on H rank. I guess you could defend f7 still with black queen but then it's just a bishop and knight trade and bishop is just worth a little more.

All these crybabies in the comments section bemoaning the lack of increment. Hello! These are super GMs, and they have TWENTY minutes for their game. If they're as good as they think they are, they should utilize their time better in the middlegame. No sympathy here.
@camilohiche4475
@camilohiche4475 2 ай бұрын
You're missing the point entirely. The no increment complaint does not come from sympathy for the players. It's about making the experience as worthy, thus valuable, thus enjoyable as possible for everyone and that includes ultimately us the spectators of course. What's the interest of having top level players match up in top level chess for the first half of the game for then to have it turn into a drunken bar brawl level matchup in the endgame. Chess is a cerebral matchup (and in speed chess becomes even a physical matchup of who can move pieces precisely and hit the clock faster). Our thoughts and actions need a minimum time, even if a little bit of it. Make the game ultimately be decided by whose clock runs dry first is just lackluster, even after the "thrill" of the player's fight during the last seconds. In the games with +1 increment it's completely different because the players know that at every move they are rewarded with a tiny new lease at life and it's a true and fair battle of who finds the better moves quicker, let alone move their bodies quicker in OTB.

Not a fan of Alireza. He tried to cheat vs Giri while also in time scramble, and after having blundered his rook for a bishop(after having let go of the piece and noticing it blundered the rook), he then tried to move it again to a safe square and pretend he didn't let go of the rook.. Giri had to pause the timer and call the arbiter who then made alireza play the original move(the blunder). The whole time alireza is trying to play dumb and act like he's shocked and didn't know what was going on. It's not the first time he has resorted to such dishonorable methods to win or get advantage in chess. Chess is supposed to be an honorable sport, and I have zero tolerance or empathy for people like that who feel the need to cheat or resort to less than honorable methods to gain some kind of advantage.

I may be in a minority, but I don't like the no increment format. Seems to favour mistakes over brilliancy.

Not so sure if this game was so interesting. Lots of missed moves and then losing on time. Pretty dumb regardless of who's playin.
