The Julius Baer Generation Cup is the 7th of 9 events on the $1.6 million 2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour and takes place on chess24 from September 18-25. The 16-player field will be cut in half by the 4-day round-robin Prelims. The total prize fund is $150,000, with $750 for a win and $250 for a draw in the Prelims. The quarterfinals and semi-finals are 1-day, 4-game matches, while the final will feature two such matches over two days.
The players have 15 minutes for all their moves, plus a 10-second increment starting from move 1. In the Prelims there are 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw. If a tiebreak is required the players will play two 5+3 games and then, if needed, a single Armageddon game, where White has 5 minutes to Black's 4, but a draw counts as a win for Black. No draw offers are allowed before move 40. Official website: chess24.com/tour

It seems like Magnus has to go insane in like 8 months every year just cause in the other 4 months he's not playing like an engine lol. Dude has been a monster always and never showed any signs of decline. So I don't know where this doubt about his skills is coming from

@@lionelmessi4953 at the games in which Magnus loses, it’s often because he made a blunder. There are very rare games where Magnus played well and his opponent exploited his weakness. It’s just that he’s so good that even if he loses a couple of matches, chess world starts calling it his decline. It’s insane that he is expected to maintain this kind of performance to be called “in form”

When Magnus plays outside of the computer recommendations, it is usually because the computer doesn't understand the human positional awareness -which is why you almost always see the opponent missing the crucial counterplay. It is simply not human to find, and so Magnus crushes the competition even with "suboptimal" moves. Note that when he HAS to find the best move he usually finds it -and when he misses "winning moves" it isn't blundering, he is just chosing ways to play that is less risky but still gives a winning advantage. Savage stuff. Best player in history, by some margin too, I think.

Magnus played this game with a very simple idea from the beginning - just attack the king, put more pressure with pawns, rooks and knights and all you have. Unfortunately, Arjun didn't really attempt any counterattack early on and had to defend the whole game, in a way allowing Magnus to keep attacking (really was expecting Arjun to try something here, coz he's already down). This game also shows how an early castle against an tough pawn-blocked king-side defence blocking attacks can put you in more trouble than safety.

Magnus hasn't even openly accused Hans because he'll get sued to death for slander. He has zero evidence and made a baseless accusation solely because he lost. Every master who analyzed the game saw nothing that would raise suspicion, and thought Magnus just put up a weak defense.

11:03 Why not white Rook to E2? I’m 600 point player 100% noob but it looks good. Any reason not to?

He's going to lose that pawn anyways after the rook attacks the base of the other pawn chain. Just give it up now and capture the pawn with the knight like he did.

Magnus actually won this tournament with a double checkmate. First brilliantly against Arjun, and second...against those that have chosen to stand with an admitted cheater of chess.

2:18 I come from whatching the Gotham Chess review on this game and it surprises me that Agad as a 1900 can give you a more comprehensive analisys of such a simple move while Levy as an IM just makes BS up as he goes or rightout says that he doesn t understand shit. The guy dosen t even take the time to analyse the game before recording the video, speed runs thru all the critical moves and still is the most popular chess youtuber. This world is stupid.

At 13:11, instead of Ba6, if Bf1, then you have a double attack on the rook and the knight.

6:43 en passant is not a legal move here since blacks pawn is on b3. It would be legit if the black pawn was on b4 however.

Magnus being Magnus. Incredible Player. Level of chess has improved a lot so getting 6-0 isn't possible like bobby Fischer. But the Magnus dominates every player like bobby did. Another great player of this century.
