Excellent discussion of your Morris! What a treasure you have in it - it's a real beauty. Still amazed at all of the mods you have done to it, and equally amazed at the lengths you have gone to keep originality intact. I believe I could trust this one to get me from NY to LA trouble-free, with a lot of thumbs-up salutes!

Beautiful conversion, I remember my parents 803cc side valve minor as a kid. The 1098 minors were so much better. The 803cc had many rebuilds, 2 adults and 4 young children were a lot for the little engine to haul around... Modern 4AGE is a superb engine for hot rodding older European cars...

OK - this is a beautifully executed mod. We all have our own ideals, but if I were to update the engine in my Moggy it would be by keeping the A series engine and adopting some of the mods seen on 1275 racing engines. Here in the UK, the power output from these engines is unbelieveable, as seen on Goodwood Revival saloon car races. SO many racers powered by A series Mills.

My first car was a 1959 Morris Minor 1000. Light blue. Didn't leak oil sitting still and didn't smoke but it used copious quantities under way. Also no matter what l tried the brakes were frightening. I ended up trading it for a 1959 Karmann Ghia convertible with a Judson super charger and a 4 outlet Abarth muffler. It was a fun car. I drove it too hard and ended up driving off of a bank into a bog with about 12" of water. I survived it all proving beyond doubt there is a God.

did he have to import that. I never saw those cars in the US

Nice job,though aircon on a Morris Minor must have been a challenge as a MM is very draughty inside even with the doors and windows shut! This being due to the poor door and window seals and the number of holes in the bulhead and floor that let draughts and water in.

i could talk to this guy in person, id say 2 things, first off the 4A-GE engine runs EXTREMELY cold. my MR-2 AW11 runs below half mark. on a 100 degree day reved up and ready to go, so coolant is NOT an issue with the engine, the second thing i would suggest to him, check out the 4A-GE 20V (blacktop/Silvertop) they are the same engine, same block, with different heads, 155 to the wheels 165 to the crank i wish i could say that to him!!! also 9000 RPM Rev with Auto ECU (STOCK)

Yes im with you now. I understand that a lot of peeps upgrade from the 803 to the newer A series if the car is for daily motoring. And im sure an swap back in a couple of hours is possible. I have heard that the A series is good for over a million miles without a rebuild, and i know there bullet proof cos i couldn't kill mine no matter what (standard) I had a 69 6cwt pick up and loved it to bits, but lost it to pay a bill :( My dream engine would have been something like this ^^^

Who were the five people who clicked on "dislike" - and why?
@catherinehourihan26029 жыл бұрын
Del350K4 Great Conversion, but for a few maybe it's that he moved away from the true spirit of 'The Galloping Maggot,' what with all that eastern technology stuck into the engine well.....some might have gone for just an old school upgrade with M.G Midget / Sprite Block... twin Carbs and a polished head coupled with a high flow high spec exhaust.... but i prefer this upgrade ....
@Del350K49 жыл бұрын
That´s a balanced assessment; I´m sure you´re right. I´m very glad that you agree that there´s room for the old school and the more modern approach. I confess I do have a personal aversion to big alloy rims on classic cars, for example, but I try not to pull faces (and certainly not click "dislike") when I see such things : )
@catherinehourihan26029 жыл бұрын
Had a Morris Minor as a kid... very-very...easy to work on, you could stand into the engine bay to pull off the cylinder head [and i did] and just drop off the front grill with a single spanner and a screw driver then just lift out the rad... try that on a modern car... i think not...mind you i would have loved to put in a big bore block type conversion into the likes of same looking at the faces of others being passed out by a little Galloping Maggot....
@Del350K49 жыл бұрын
Ha ha! I had a tiny Honda ST70 Dax with a firebreathing CD175 engine; I used to sit there at the lights next to, say, a Holbay Hunter or a Capri, then, when the lights went orange, my tiny bike would bellow like a charging lion and vanish. They´d catch up at the next lights and I´d enjoy watching them staring at my engine : )

Hi Zac just wondering what you did for your fuel tank and return setup? is the thank off another vehicle?
@libbymerrill32548 жыл бұрын
The fuel tank is the larger "Seven Gallon" unit from a 1000 Traveller. I added a 1/4" return line to the tank.

A fine piece of engineering to get all that to fit BUT.........it's one less mint '48 Moggie left in original condition and there are not that many around. He could have used a later model Moggie 1000 saloon.

turbo-mini.c o m .... featured cars .... Metro Turbo block modified to group "A" spec, Hardened 6581 crankshaft balanced+wedged, "Carrillo" forged steel con rods, Mahle low compression forged pistons, 4 bolt billet centre main strap,,,,ect ,,ect. Not sure i would ever get any traction with this in my old p-up but it would of been fun trying. lol

good conversion. Althouh to satisfy the purists, some datsun 4cyl engines that were derived from the A's could bolt in with minor modification

these words usually come from people who lack the skill and motivation to carry out such a project. You don't see modifiers or hotrodders dissing your videos because your car is too original do you?
@VisualArea5116 жыл бұрын
I don't believe there's any rule of thumb that says you can't transplant an engine born in another country, and put it in a Classic to make it drive better and more reliably on todays higher speed roads. Your simple minded opinions are apparent.
@moggiethouable Жыл бұрын
That really is a lot of work, it truly is impressive. But it begs the question, why? If you want a modern ride, use one. Im sorry, this aint a morris any more, its a custom kit car.

yes i know but after doing all that supper work fitting the engine it would have made the engine bay look better i have looked at 100s of engine conversions on morris minors and i must say this one is one of the best, but it would have been better if the battery was not at the back of the engine sorry ..

That's where the battery sits from the factory.

I think you could of just upgraded to the A series engine and spent some cash on it,,,i think you have torn the hart out of this car,,,i dont understand?

You'd have to spend a lot of money to end up with a less reliable, less economical engine which still wouldn't have the same power output as this factory Toyota unit.
