King Cobalt I wish he was right too. Maybe they could have worked harder in making great music accessible based on quality, rather then how much money they can put together for a video. Shit like K-pop definitely won't be popular if the market died.
@LucyOLastic6 жыл бұрын
At least when they made videos there was not a cast of thousands, no Busby Berkeley dance routines, no guys with hammers or angels and devils, and nothing to date them particularly. The video by Derek Jarman for "The Queen Is Dead"/"Panic" is excellent....a work of art which does not impose itself on the song, rather complements it. Pop videos were a bad thing generally, forcing people to listen with their eyes rather than their ears, taking away your right and ability to interpret the music using your own imagination. It's what we have landed up with, where music is second to the image, there as wallpaper, something to dance to....robbed of meaning, except for a narrow band of emotions, and then you are overpowered by them. All style over substance. Morrissey at least tried to break that spell. Who does now in mainstream pop?

Videos didn’t die completely, but obviously they lost their importance as MTV shifted more to reality tv programming. KZbin also provides an outlet for music videos, but still nothing like how it was in the 80’s with MTV, when every song ever recorded HAD TO have a video along with it. Then the irony is that, though not often, Smiths songs still made it into movie soundtracks. Is Morrissey upset about that? And then a whole bunch of Morrissey solo songs had videos made for them. Even some Smiths songs after this interview was made. Ie Stop Me if You Think…. Moz just likes to run his mouth. Lol
