OneButton Dash I can understand where some CG will be kinda necessary, but as long as it doesn't look too artificial and isn't WAY over-used, it's something I can forgive. I was so happy to find out the little droid is a REAL thing that they rolled out on stage for everyone to see, we're so prepared to hate on the effects that we're seeing the CG when it isn't there anymore, good to help reassure us like that.

@72Oswald8 жыл бұрын
and about the sub zero and goro fights, they actually seem to flow well into each other, given that both liu and johnny seem to turn sub zero and goro's offense against them and thus showing that even the most powerful have a weak point that, if exploited, can lead to their downfall and that solutions can be simpler in contrast to we make them out to be (johnny lures goro to a cliff, where he can fight on his own terms and liu simply uses water to apprehend sub zero's potentially fatal attack.)

That's the answer and the reason why movies suck these days. Common people believe that CGI is the evolution of the process, that we are lucky to live in a period where CGI makes everything possible. That's false. Also if modern CGI is powerful enough to produce realistic effects like fire, smoke, electric shock waves, transition effects, backgrounds, planets from scratch, exploding buildings or videogames with amazing quality, it still sucks in making "movie quality" characters with particulars like blood, hairs, eyes, facial expression and so on. Can we replace the actors with CGI? We can't. Same way, can we replace real matter or the animatronics? The answer is still negative. So, what is CGI in a movie? Most of the time, low cost crap. Don't misunderstand me, I love CGI, but nowadays everything is made with it and we are losing quality to abuse with quantity.
@Slade_The_Deathstroke11 жыл бұрын
I have to agree. I'm more into the practical effects in movies than CGI. I guess that in nowadays the budget in films cost less to do CGI than something like this video. I'm alright with CGI when it's done right and what it's meant to do. For instant, Pacific Rim, the CGI is absolute brilliant. I think the Rise of the Planet of the Apes CG on the apes are amazing. Just like practical effects, CG are either brilliant or horrible.
@thedeadlive10 жыл бұрын
I think that quite a few movies would still suck even if they used decent practical effects. They would have one less strike against them, but it's only one part of the production. That being said, I am all for incorporating more practical effects into movies.

I know that you said that you love cgi, but Andy Serkis is a good example of a cgi character with quality comming from the actor. Although it isn't just him making the emotions himself with alot of computer designers adding too it, but that would be the same with none cgi actors where it isn't just the actor when you have the make-up people and the director telling the actor how to feel.
@veezty5 жыл бұрын

My main problem with CGI is that they have yet gotten it right.... In all of the movies and video games I see, the players look plastic... the skin texture isn't there. They all look like animated toy figures.
@cfin855010 жыл бұрын
Well said Johnnie! The main problem I think with CGI is that for some faster movements of action, yes...a little CGI can be utilized, but not for every shot like most Hollywood directors insist. Ever since the original Jurassic Park debuted, everyone thinks CGI is the way to do the entire film and characters. Yes, there were some parts that did look fake, but the overall look wasn't bad. Hardest think about getting the CGI element correct is the natural lighting. Very hard to capture! Now for Mortal Kombat, I think this will be the best live action representation of Goro because they decided not to use CGI for him. Just the storyline killed the film but one thing that I've seen is that the regular fanbase of these franchises are coming up with more interesting storylines than Hollywood would ever produce with with a very small budget!
@MMambl10 жыл бұрын
I think your right with that, I just wanted to say that CGI can be very nice in movies. I totally agree with the problem that very often the CGI work is not good because of the cost, but isn`t it the same with other ways to make effects, like the one shown in the video?
@Gerald500010 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's not CGI's fault. It's that film makers that don't know how to use it. It works great for synthetic materials, or anything man made like buildings and what not, but for anything living, it's a struggle. Paul, the alien, worked pretty amazingly as a CGI creature but generally, the whole 'Uncanny Valley' thing is a problem and it's abused. The way flesh, hair, and nature works and reacts, can't be fully simulated with Ones and Zeros.
