This is one of my longer videos, but something that must be done. Street Fighter 2, and Mortal Kombat, 2 of the BIGGEST FIGHTERS EVER go head to head. Listen as I share my experience with Street Fighter 2, because I know people are gonna say I’m biased, being an MK channel for the most part 😂 but fear not, this is my complete unbiased opinion, as we find out which game is better!

Fantastic video dude! Really nice seeing the background elements that we take for granted pointed out. The SF blood and vomit is a detail I felt like nobody else remembered or noticed anymore. Nice! At the end with the 20-20 and you asked "Who's the winner?" I said "Us!" Probably just a slip, but 1996 was actually KI2. The original KI was 1994 and MK3 was 1995. What an incredible time though. That tiny window of time we saw so many great fighting games and were getting unique graphical styles and huge jumps in tech back to back. SF, MK, VF, KI.

They both just resonate strong in my childhood almost equally but MK just hit the nail on the head! When I walked in Round Table Pizza 1992 that sound! Dunnt da Dunn da! Dunnnnta! Lol MK music just got me! Controls for me MK! I have to stop right now cause they both are equal to me just MK takes the cake. The Finish Him made chills run up and down my spine still does! The darker side for MK is so great! Can't say anymore! Love street fighter 2 but just love MK that much more! They're both perfect games like you said. great video dude!

Dude, our SF2 stories are extremely similar! We must be the same age (I was 11 at the time too!). I also had a convenience store near me that had SF2 when it came out. I played it there a ton. Then when the SNES version came out, I didn't own that console at the time either. I played it at my friend's house constantly. ...Until a bit later when my parents got me a SNES for my birthday. SF2 was the first game I got with it. Good times man, good times.

Killer Instinct vs Street Fighter’s best game in the series. Those Ca-Ca-Ca-Ca-Ca-Ca-COMBO BREAKER!!! 🤣 I would lose my mind if they did a Killer Instinct vs Street Fighter Arcade game! They should do it and why not. That would be a nice spark to reignite the arcade scene 👀🕹️ to get us gamers to revisit the arcades.

Love the stories, the nostalgia, boy did it take me back, thanks! I love the passion you have and the love for every little aspect of the game. All the sounds... I can still hear them in my head. Anyway, the other day I mentioned that we were about the same age, and you asked me to DM you on Insta, (still need to do that), and I'm turning 46 on July 25th, so I am a little bit older. I'm Jason White by the way. I remember that summer of 1992, I was 13, just going on 14. I was waiting what felt forever for Street Fighter 2 to come out on SNES. I saved my allowance for months to pay for it. When I finally did, I was so amazed how good it was. I could play hours with friends without spending so many quarters, and I didn't have to get a ride to play somewhere. I felt the same out MK, I was thrilled that I could play it at home. I did miss the blood, but it was so fun, I didn't care. I had a game genie and was able to turn the sweat red, so that helped. When you mentioned the hurricane kick in Street Fighter II, I always heard "I'd like ta fuck yah!" LOL!! For the Shoryuken, I always heard "Oh you can". not as funny. I think the Hadouken just sounded like itself as I recall, lol. Anyway... I was on a bowling team for a few years and the bowling alley had a great arcade with all the latest games. I become obsessed with fighters. It's what I thought about when I wasn't doing anything else. I used to draw pictures . I still have a folder of a bunch of artwork from MK2 somewhere. The fighters I played most in the arcades were Street Fighter 2, MK2, Samurai Shodown, and Killer Instinct. I love them all, but I think if I had to pick one, it would be MK2. One time my family went to Las Vegas for a week and we stayed at my Aunt's time share. It was right across the street from an arcade that had Killer Instinct and for some reason it was on Free Play. I was too young to gamble of course, so I was happy to be playing that game for hours. I really wish they would have released it at home on the N64. KI Gold was okay, but there is just something about KI that I loved more. The game came with the new KI on Xbox, but not with the PC one. So I still don't have it to play. I know I messed around with roms before, but it's just not the same. I wish I had a cabinet. Oh, I do own the MS-Dos versions of MK and MK2... they are arcade perfect as far as I remember. I can't seem to get them to run on Dos in Windows anymore though. Oh, one thing I really love about MK 2 in the arcade (or a perfect port), after you hear FATALITY, the music gets lower, almost like it's trailing off with the voice. I am obsessed with it, and was so disappointed it wasn't on the SNES version. You probably know what I'm talking about. Wow, I am rambling. I agree with you assessment 100% here.

My entire teenage existence was spent in an arcade on these two games. Then eventually, Killer Instinct. The glory days are missed. Ken and Ryu's fighting style is called "Shotokan," and their Dragon Punch vocal expression is a mixture of SHO + RYU + KEN. Great times!

Street Fighter || has better controls. Street Fighter || is still played in tournaments to this day. Besides Chrono Trigger, Batman Returns, FF6, FZero, Super Tennis, Ultraman, and Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Street Fighter|| is always the first game I "buy", from those ethical emulator sites ;) (Don't mind me, something's iny eye)

Sf2 was my first vg that became an extension of me at 10 years old.! . Before that games never felt personal .. just something to play to pass time . Super Mario,duck hunt, double dragon.. I never tried to master games or care where they came from just played & enjoy win or lose for couple minutes. . . When sf2 was introduced to me in a house full of boys & an snes. I was beat to a pulp & laughed at. 😠 it became personal… ( I wanted revenge, I wanted to learn & train and gets those assholes.) . The arcade was too hard for me, every time I tried the cpu beat me out of my quarter until my little dollar was done 😞. . But fate intervened… my neighbor used to barrow me his snes with sf2 from time to time and I trained & trained. When I got a sega genesis with Sonic 2 & joe Montana football I stopped narrowing the snes .. THEN 🤯… a big boy gave me this magical cartridge.. with the coolest front cover because he used to beat all the genesis games & didn’t have nothing to do with them , plus his teenage life was more than just video games… . He found out I had a Genesis & my folks was too poor to buy games for me. So I played the ones that came with it to death . . He started giving games once he beat them or got tired of them.. HE GAVE ME ..! Street fighter 2 championship edition 🤯 🧨 that game because the reason I played that game to every inch of its existence. I explored very inch of that cartridge even pressing start to change to punch n kick never bothered me .!! . . . THEN I DISCOVERED.. blood,guts & gore .!!! MORTAL FREAKING Kombat 😵‍💫 Long story short…….. mortal Kombat as much as I loved it. Felt shallow compared to sf. . It felt like. More of a show piece and bragging rights than the sweet science of fighting . I played the game back to front as well and just decided street fighter for my taste edges it out. By a tiny tiny tiny tiny hair of a fraction. There is things about mortal Kombat that bugged me 🙄 Like the flipping amount of life the upper cut takes .!!! It was a stupid cheap way to give entertainment over substance . And the fighting was shallow when u compare to the sf . Like there isn’t many different outcomes to the fighting in mk like there is in sf. In mk it was simple sweet and to the point . Street fighter u had fast,average and slow variations to moves . And the strength of moves can be decided upon by the player. It made the possible seem near endless . .u cold make up your own combinations that didn’t need to link. . Mk for me was a limited truck pony. U ether trip, Jump kick or uppercut. And found ways to land special moves which u couldn’t control too much of it is manipulated… It could be technical but for me it never felt deep enough. I loved both .! Played both equally But it was like night and day . Apples to oranges and I prefer apples .🍎 🍏 but still love oranges 🍊 Which one would I eat more of .? 🤔 Apples.!! Which do I prefer STREET FIGHTER .!

THIS was a GREAT watch. I really enjoyed it. Such a fantastic, nostalgia filled look back at the 2 main fighting games that defined a generation of fighting game fans and still does to this day in many cases. I must say, I agree completely with your opinions of each game getting perfect scores across the board. Ya know, I think if you ask our generation of fighting game fans to be honest, I think most would also agree with that. There obviously wouldn't be Mortal Kombat without Street Fighter 2 and like yourself, I also played the hell out of that game except my "main" was usually Ken however you can't deny the fun factor of using Blanka and every other character really. SF2 will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart because again, it was my go to fighting game before MK debuted. I had it on SNES also and played it for hours as well. Both games DESERVE to be rated "PERFECT" and "FLAWLESS", respectively. They both still stand the test of time and will always be in my Top 10 games of all time. Mabey even Top 5, to be honest. Thanks for the look back brother. It sparked Great memories. 👊

I agree with almost everything you said, but I think SF2 soundtrack was much better than MK. Till this day I still have Guile theme as ringtone :) Fun factor I give it to MK, specialy back then. Fatalitys was the best thing that happend in that era when it comes to gaming. MK wins for me with just a small difference, mostly cus of the gameplay/fun factor

Beckers! Yes! Ours turned into a Mac's at one point. My home arcade was in Westmount Mall. They had the sit-down Street Fighter 2 arcade. I still remember exactly where all three 3 MK cabs were in there.

I did something similar with my friend. We’d ride our bikes to a pizza shop to play their SF2 machine. I remember at first trying to play it like a beat’em up, and my strategy was pounding the crap outta the short kick button, jumping in and low short until I got people dizzy, then throw. Then learning specials with Blanka electricity too, and E Honda hand slap, Chun Li kicks. Eventually figured out command specials, fire time I hit a dragon punch I get like the man. 😂

My grandmother used to take me and my brother to the nearby mall that used to have $1-$2 movie theaters on a Sundays, and then we'd be allowed to go into the newly renovated Showtime arcade. She'd sit on a bench while we were in the arcade. I spotted SF2 one of those times (they'd place new games front and center of the entrance) and just remember how big the characters were and the colors, along with the way it played. I however was very aware that it just ate up quarters, and I never really played it until Champion Edition came out- it was so powerful being able to play as Bison and getting spam the Pyscho Crusher repeatedly!

Major memories of SF2 growing up in arcades and the video games. This was probably my most go-to beat 'em up game between the two. Maybe due to just being exposed to more SF growing up. MK was almost a very rare thing to find around here for me at least. MK2 however gives SF2 more of a competition in terms of stage layout, music and character list. They are so different in terms of what they come across as, and the target audience, but so similar as well. Hard to pick, but for my personal exposure and memories it would be SF2. Again, if MK2 or MK3 was in the mix, it would be a different story. Great video, and look forward to more "vs" games WELL DONE, Shang Fun. 👊 However, if this was SF vs MK movies? STREET FIGHTER: THE MOVIE always wins. 😁

Honestly I love both of these games equally and have them both as 10/10 in my eyes. I grew up in the 90's with both of these games on the SNES and played them for literal hours on end. I think the only game I played more than these 2 would be Super Mario Bros haha. Everything about these games is perfect from the players, the fight stages, the music, the moves, etc. Normally I would say that the fact MK 1-3 used real life actors for their sprites would give it a slight edge, but honestly the sprites in Street Fighter 2 are so iconic it doesn't bother me at all. Out of the Street Fighter series I would have to say Street Fighter II Turbo Hyper Fighting is probably my favorite. I like that they switched the colors on all of the sprites, gave it a cool, updated look to them.

as a kid I first play these two games on consoles before I seen their arcade versions. In the case with Street Fighter II the first version I play of it was Street Fighter II Turbo and in the case with Mortal Kombat it was the first one but it was only the Super NES one, I didn't get to play the Sega Genesis or arcade one until a few year after. As with everyone back then I never seen anything on Street Fighter 1, I didn't know that the game exist cause I play Street Fighter II after owning the NES for several years and always thought that Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight was the first Street Fighter game.

Man im probably around your age and grew up at liquor stores playing SF and MK. My family was homless and we would get motel vouchers so i would be at the arcades to escape. Could never choose which game was better. I think mk did a better job at releasing new versions which kept me hooked. SF2 is hard to beat tho

Love both these games to death, but for me, the inclusion of a Secret Character and Fatalities, which are more moves and variety for each character, would have placed MK slightly higher. But I cant argue too much, SF2 and MK both were a huge part of my life in the 90s. 🍻🤘🏼🔥

Remember when street fighter 2 game out in arcade was always so crowded couldn't wait until came out on super nes I was 18 when it came out on super nes it was most anticipated game from arcade to console I got mine at toysrus I remember was expensive 75 played so many hours probably was my favorite super nes game at time had to be most hyped console game until Mortal Kombat came out loved 90s great time growing up

Omg….yes!! I almost forgot the first Street Fighter II game was priced at $74.99 and spending almost near 80 dollars after taxes. That was insane, but I didn’t care because SF II was legendary in the arcades and the game was a near perfect arcade port! A must buy. It amazes me the SNES had that edge over other 16 bit consoles when it comes to graphics since the arcade games were almost identical to the home versions. Not all, but some. To this day, the Street Fighter game still holds up, including the graphics. Someone on KZbin (or they probably already did) should do a top 5 arcade port games that looked flawless for the SNES. Some of them are the Street Fighter games, *Turtles in Time* ,and I say Sunset Riders. Those were classic games, but I’m impressed that they almost look the arcade games.

Holy cow you’re right: Street Fighter II has barf! I’ve been whistling past that fact my whole life and I can’t even tell you how many hours I played that game! I thought it was blood! But when I look close now, the blood looks like blood: red and bright, a few specks of it. The barf looks like barf: brownish and tons of it! My $0.02 I’ll say SF2 by a nose, but MK1 gets such a boost from having fatalities. Still such a differentiator.

Could you do Super Street Fighter Turbo, its so hard, Its the hardest one ever , cos it has Gouki first appearance, and I think its same time as Mk 3 and Ultimate Mortal release. I.mean a vs Vid, and yes I know it's not a Streetfighter Channel lol

Yeah you right this a big one.this is tough I grew up playing both games as a kid I always thought mk was a little better because of the digital graphics looks and it looks more real and the ninjas and characters better than sf2.but it can go either way

I was 9 when MK came out. I'll always remember the first time I saw an MK cabinet. It was next to the SF2 WW cab that I knew and loved. The first time I saw MK, I just knew that THAT game was for adults. SF2 felt childish from then on. With that said, SF2 has so much more polish and is more fun to play footsies with. Without the secrets and fatalities, MK is quite boring mechanistically.

I’m a fan of both but sf2 is the better series imo. It’s still played today in huge tournaments. And is more popular than mk on fightcade also and for good reason.

Not tough for me, Street Fighter 2 World Warrior all day long. SF2 looked like a genuine step forward for the 1 v 1 beat em up genre, whereas Mortal Kombat looked like a gimmicky tech demo to me when the cabinet hit the arcades. Mortal Kombat's problem is the same one that has plagued it ever since in every single iteration that followed, and that is the lack of motion captured quality animation. The characters just always looked like cardboard cut outs of real people being moved by a puppet master on a string. Revisiting now clearly shows us which of the two has stood the test of time, SF2 has aged much more gracefully today than Mortal Kombat has.

DARRYL , ,ahhh yes the age old rivalry Mortal:Kombat VS StreetFighter , , , ,my favorite is first 4 ARCADE Mortal Kombat games because they look like live actors that actually KiLL each other with grizzly Murder moves , , while Street-Fighter simply looks like a dang cartoon 😢 , , , , but as for wich franchise stuck to its guns and retains its true spirit ???? In that case the Franchise WINNER unfortunately is StreetFighter : not even a contest 😢😢 see "MK-5Deadly Alliance" marks Midway begining attempt to remove "Real Look" of Fighters, and a strange Arab art style influence on clothing of known fighters they began forcing on the series for some unknown reason , ,😮 also they were gradually turning the estranged franchise more baby- safe with each release a trend that didn't fade until MKX , , ,revist the games after you screenshot this complete posting and realize how accurate my statements here really are 🎉🎉😮😮
