This is an Aritco Platform Lift in a shopping centre in South London. It makes one heck of a noise going up and down!

It sounds exactly like the sound effect used for the Death Star garbage compactor in the original 1977 Star Wars movie.

This lift comes under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) as it is in a public place, by law it has to have regular documented maintenance and has to be thoroughly examined at 6 monthly intervals by a competent person. Providing the maintenance and examinations were carried out then the lift would be safe to use, however, it does sound horrible and wouldn't fill you with confidence!!

no it does not. these are screw nut so don’t come under elevator codes, they are regulated by machine codes

People are like "hey, quit playing on the elevator!" lol

I've been told off by one of the staff members on Hobby Craft when I was In a phoenix lift in Chesterfield. A staff member said "Is not a toy."

I recognize this, the one at the shopping center just outside Elephant & Castle? I wanted to ride that lift but didn't have a key so couldn't.

I’m with Ron! Stairs or escalator for me!
@ronleitch77886 жыл бұрын
I think, from preference, I’d have used the escalator!
@thelastpilot45826 жыл бұрын
These lifts are for the disabled with wheel chairs who cannot use escalators.
@grassytramtracks Жыл бұрын
I would, I guess they have to have it for people who can't use stairs or escalators

why do I keep thinking of the wheelchair lift that college had where pressing the estop would disable the lift until someone came along with the key to reset it (for some reason the estop button on that thing needed a key to be reset)

I think R.M.S. "Titanic" made those same sounds when she struck that iceberg all those years ago.

I could put up with the noise of the lift but to look at the carpet for long would make me feel sick

I remember a lift similar to this being installed in my primary school I used to go to

Looks like a dangerous set up. I could see a kid putting their finger near the side edge and loosing it.

Sounds like a groaning monster. Loved that.

where sound come from? from friction between nut and screw? lack of oil? or what?

It could definitely do with some TLC lol. Was it staff only?
@morthren6 жыл бұрын
People can use it but had to ask a member of staff to call it. Luckily for me it's Dewhurst :)
@MMBaus6 жыл бұрын
morthren ah cool, always pays to have a Dewhurst key handy!

I know I love lifts but this one really wants me to stop loving them

Oh yeah, my physiotherapist has one of those maybe 1 year old? Terrible and fails often also you can easily get your fingers stuck between wall and lift. A nightmare.
@charlottemummy095 жыл бұрын
Why do you need a key to get in that lift?
@morthren5 жыл бұрын
You have to ask a member of staff to use it for some reason
@MrEngineer200515 жыл бұрын
THAT'S FAST!!!
@holmesjunction6 жыл бұрын
At least it's working (for the time being). Some people 'have to use' these lifts whether it's noisy or not!. Having to 'ask to come in' certainly shows the shopping centre's thoughts on the spending power of customers with access problems (as does the weight restriction - is it 300kg on outside or 400kg on inside). Should we ban such lifts because kids have no common sense or someone has to pay to maintain them? Just some of the facts of life that have to be justified to the accountants. :)

Very noisy! I like those doors though.

Bad lift rollers/track? Weak shaft? Or bad machinery? Likely to be the tracks/rollers.
@morthren6 жыл бұрын
It probably just needs a good service and oiling. Like NZ Lifts commented, it's probably past its useful service life.

Why blame the product? Its really down to lack of servicing and some TLC. Don't put any oil in your car for a year and see how that runs?
@blue.light.fazbear6 жыл бұрын
Typical platform lifts XD
@morthren6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't think Aritco will be commenting on this one!
