Join me as I complete the Mortimer Trail from Ludlow to Kington but not in the way I expected. It was a glorious trail and test after such a long injury but how the heck did I lose the trail 3.5 mile out? Watch the video to find out. It was a simple reason and not so much an error as a misleading junction with a hidden sign.

The kindness of strangers is truly heartwarming. 🤗 It's amazing how simple acts of kindness can make a big difference, like offering a bottle of water. 💧 The beautiful landscape you walked through must have been a great test for your recovering ankle. 🏞 It's nice to get lost sometimes and let our instincts guide us. And knowing the landscape well definitely helps! Bravo to you for finishing the trail. 👏 Sending you all the best, mate. Take care! 👍

Morning friend, glad you enjoyed the trail. I agree simple acts of kindness touches parts other acts cannot. The landscape touched me similarly - warmed my heart. I found my ankle/leg performance encouraging to. A far as getting lost is concerned I followed the first sign - missed the second. Easily done but yeah go with your feelings. Many thanks. Mark

Hi Mark, congrats on sticking with it mate. Some more stunning scenery in our amazing country. It`s nice when complete strangers offer you hospitality, even if it is only a bottle of Water, that simple act can make a big difference, not only in quenching your thirst but good for one`s moral through a simple act of kindness. I read the other day that one of the old Boys from The Regiment passed away recently, his name escapes me but he would have been from your Dad`s era. Take care mate 👍

So good to see you out hiking again Mark. I loved the stealthy camps, and wonderful memories to celebrate and remember Paul. You’re right they should be no mad rush on a trail better to choose shorter trails and have realistic day distances, it’s not a competition but I suppose we are all used to rushing and comparing ourselves to others. Always enjoy your videos and your thoughts, thanks again

Mark, life in the slow lane, apart from the outside world, is a great place to be👍 More ambling through beautiful countryside with so much greenery, forest, wild flowers and just about visible paths. Agree about the electrolytes - helps me avoid cramping when losing all those salts and minerals on sweaty days👍 Had a tick a few weeks back - I think midge bites are probably more attractive! A good bit of determination and detective work in going back to find that right (left😊) turn, though it led to that cool spot at the pavilion for the night👍 Definitely a good test and cool that you finished the walk and the challenge you set yourself👍

Well done Mark. That's all I can say. Good on you for going back.. The amount of videos I've seen of people going wrong but not caring about it and thinking it's okay to claim they've completed the whole walk. Grrr Haha. What you did there reminds me of when I did the Pennine Way with my old school friend. We went wrong by about 6 miles. He didn't want us to go back up the hill. So we had to hitch a lift to get to the YHA in time. But we made up for it by extending the last day and going up The Cheviot hill which you don't have to go up. You got to see Hergest Ridge. The title of a Mike Oldfield album. !! Nice one Mark.

Congratulations on finishing the Mortimer Trail Mark. You are a more thorough man than me, going back to complete the route properly. I think I'd probably just be happy to have got from Ludlow to Kington in one piece 🙂. A cautionary tale too, to check the map. Anyway, good to see you on the mend and making plans. Great film. Bye for now, Chris

Hi Mark , enjoyed this with lunch and I agree with you its best to go slow so you can enjoy everything . People who rush do miss things. Nice to lay down and rest and ' ground ' We love doing this. Nice to have lunch at the church and enjoy the peace and good vibe. Love the sheep there. Treleavem looks so lovely with all of the bluebells, long grasses and narrow trails. Shame you couldnt spot the Iron Age Hillfort but Sue in the house was kind giving you the spring water. Ooo dear though that tic 😯 The other church was lovely too and so was the old barn . Good that your shin and ankle are getting stronger . The woodland sections are so beautiful and the views toward the border and the Radner Forest were gorgeous. Love the old stone walls that we saw. Its so annoying when signs come to an abrupt end ir are not clear. The pavillion was a nice spot and good to see where you and Paul were together. Well done for finishing the trail. Nice 1 Mark, I totally agree, even when I walk to my day camp spots I miss so much as I just want to get there, but when walking back I'm in no rush so I see so much more ! Always nice to get offerings of help from strangers, restores my faith in the world. Shame you were running low on power... do use a camera or phone to film? I will sometimes take 2 power banks on a hike if I think it's needed. The trail did look quite overgrown where you missed the turn, so it's easily done to go wrong like that. Good that you went back to find the spot you missed though. Thanks for sharing this journey with us Atb Mark

Alright there Mark. Yeah, same mate - love to meet great folks on trail. We go away with a spring in our step. I use some Sony batteries the other cheap. I simple didn't charge some of them - my mistake. For longer treks I will take a power pack with me. As for missing the sign I read the first, which said straight on and missed that second 25 yards in - easily done. Well, many thanks Mark. Take care.

I've been to Shobdon years ago, done a few parachute jumps back in the day, about mid 1980s. I hope your leg gets better soon, I'm sure it will. Slow is best I think, never been interested in kms, just getting around and not getting lost, being in the moment with the earth's sounds 🤘👣🍁🌷🌿
