I am actually glad to see you working with the original. there are so many cars with modern 6 and 8 cylinders in them these flat heads are disappearing fast and no one seems to notice. I am a huge fan of inline 6 cylinders anyway the fact that you are rustoring (Mustie1 reference) this one makes me happy.

Dylan McCool is the perfect example of this. He currently has a 58 Savoy that needs engine work on the 6, so he swapped an 8 into it. Seems to be a regular thing with him.
@3rdworldgarage4502 жыл бұрын
The problem is that if you want to drive these cars on modern roads in normal urban and suburban traffic, they are borderline dangerous. The lack of power and brakes creates a huge mismatch with the capabilities of the rest of traffic. I am just happy to see them live again, even if only for a little while before we are all forced into electric commuter pods controlled by the government and multinationals.

Good job that! My Power Wagon has the same engine, amazing what it does dragging around all that steel! I didn’t break a valve but yea, mine were stuck too. In 1950 the cooling system was unpressurized and the rad holds about 4-5 gallons. Belt tensioner came loose on one trip, the temp gauge went up but it made it home no problem. They actually like running a bit “warm”. My first car as a kid was a 1960 Dodge Dart with the slant six, a big leap in technology! Nope, don’t want it back😉

I think it was a fortunate turn of events that led to the engine being taken out. You wouldn't have got so much crud out of it otherwise. That engine sounded pretty good once it was warmed up. I do like a straight 6. I'd keep the engine. V8 swaps are ten-a-penny. Disc brakes on the front are a good idea. Myself though, I wouldn't do too much more than it takes to make it safe and reliable.
