OMS in Strategic Air Command (SAC) would have been Organizational Maintenance Squadron. That's the squadron for the crew chiefs assigned to and maintain the aircraft on the ramp. They do the preflights, postflights, refuelling, defueling, launch, recovery, and cleaning.
@michaelhoward19002 жыл бұрын
Sounds right! They also used those vehicles to take the crew back and forth to the aircraft. Probably Ellsworth, Grand Rapids or Minot Air Force bomber wings.

Should call that 57 IH the Peacemaker, after the Corvair B36. They would have been using them from 1946 to 1959, before the B58 Hustler and the B52 Buff came online in the 60's.

Personally, I'm not a fan of using brake cleaner as a starting fluid because it washes the oil from the cylinders. Yes, the propellant in the can may be flammable (propane / butane) but the actual fluid is not. Burning it will just about choke you to death compared to choke / carb cleaner. (ask me how I know)

That throttle linkage through the block is pretty weird. I had one of the Chevy versions of this type of van and it had the 17.5 split rims on it. Nobody would mount tires on the wheels for me but I found an old timer who did it. Drove it for a short time as a work van (mobile marine) but it proved impractical and I sold it to someone that turned it into an ice cream van.

One of my older brother's used to have a van similar he's was a 1959 Chevy meat truck it had freezers in it when he got it. Pulled the freezers out of thr van and made it a carpet van he was a flooring installer. He called his van the "AFTER BURNER" had a lot of fun in his 59 panel van, camping, hunting, fishing. The panel van had a vent grill on the side of it. My brother pulled it off and he used it to cook on he made hamburgers and hotdogs on it. My older brother has been looking one ever since he wrecked his last panel van. I found a few panel vans in California, but diffrent year's and makers. Just as cool as the one he had. I think he paid $500.00 buck's for it. Those day's are long gone 1980s!! No one wanted those ice cream panel vans back then. You can just about make anything look cool. That's how me and my brother's cousin's bought those odd ball vehicle's nobody wanted bought them on the cheap buck fixed them up to be a good running cool looking ride. People would want them after they were fixed up with a nice paint job and new tires with descent seat covers. When Pop's went to Mexico on vacation we would send the seat covers and panel's to get new covers for the seats, "on the low buck" a whole lot cheaper than what they were charging in the state's. Any how someone will want that old bread truck probably put a whole new chassis running gear stopping and braking power for modern day traffic. We all seen them done at car shows or on You tube video's they are just as cool or useful as a new panel van.

Was buried to the roof of the garage. I first got the hood open and the engine rolled over. Then I unloaded garage and car. Loaded the wagon. All four brakes were locked. I used aluminum signs and oil to just winch it on the trailer. Repacked the garage and left. Monday morning I found out the garage the wagon was in collapsed. Haha
