I picked up this 1961 Chevrolet Belair with plans of using it as a parts car for the bubble top project we've had on the back burner for some time. After being parked since 1974 lets see if this old sedan will come back to life! If you would like to purchase the car in the as shown condition, you can be the proud new owner for a mere $1,000! (No Title) As always, thanks for watching!

I remember the small full service stations in my hometown. By the mid to late 80s most had sold out and retired. America’s purchasing habits were changing and the inevitable rise of Walmart was taking shoppers by storm. The really cool guys in high school were the kids of the owners of these service stations. They drove the Chevelles, Camaros, and Novas. Me? I was stuck with a 78 Pinto. 👍for the video.

The info segment on Tie Able was neat. I like hearing history like that so please continue to do these when you find things like the ice scraper. Not to mention the fact that nobody gives out free anything anymore. No free paper funnels for oil, no free sample of jerky at the meat shop, etc etc

When you was pointing out the twine wrapped around the rear axle reminded me back 60+ years ago when I was with my grandfather. We lived on the farm and my grandfather would use his car as a pickup truck. One day after cutting hay we were driving (1960 Dodge Seneca) across the hay field to check if it was dry enough to bail. Afterward, we was driving into town and the car had a “terrible” vibration that would only get worse with speed. He pulled into a service station and put the car upon the lift. The drive shaft was packed tightly with hay and was literally smoking from the friction. It took about 1/2 hour to cut off the smoldering hay. But afterward the bottom of the car was so polished you could nearly see your self in the reflection from the driveshaft tunnel!

My uncle who was a lead engineer on this thing complained about these. Saying that the fenders and hoods were produced in three different locations as well as the painting of being done in as many places as well. GM reverted back to such antics in the late 80's and 90's . You see as much of because of the missing paint on hoods, fenders and roofs, especially on Corsican, Berettas and the Silverado flavors. GM was trying to save a dime or two in that phase. Remember, that is also around the time of the Flint GM plant getting ready to close up.

Just an idea. When you very first get a car put a bunch of lubie dube in the cylinders that way while you wait to mess with it not only do you have a better shot if the engine is stuck but you're soaking them rings so you'll have more compression when you go to start it just making things easier as all the way around 👍 like I said just an idea.

So many classic and/or old cars and trucks sitting for decades, seem to want to run again. Most do with some effort, skill, and a few parts. The oldest one I ever had, was a 1970 Chevy C20, sat for 33 years. Ran when parked. Removed the plugs, old bare wiring and harness. Sprayed WD40 in each cyclinder, new plugs wires. Had to find a junk yard used wire harness to replace what the critters ate Then added a new battery, hoses, belts, oil filter, fresh oil, fresh antifreeze, aired up the tires, started up and ran as if it had never sat in a field for 33 years. The guages worked, transmission & rear end also great. Makes us wonder, how will todays vehicles fair if left to sit for 20, 30, 40 or more years into the future? Will they be as eager to start and run as cars for our past seem to be?

This was my grandfather's car. He would use it as a field vehicle after he bought a Biscayne that was once an NDHP cruiser. After he passed away in 1972, it continued to be used for hauling parts and lube for the equipment . That is why there is no back seat. Of course, the family outgrew the sedan...8 of us kids. we needed a station wagon. The last I remember , the engine and trans were good, but there was a problem with the diff. The car could be put into gear, driveline spun, but a hell of a racket from the rear end gears.

My Dad bought a 1961 Bel Air two door bubble 235 two speed as our second car ...for me to drive to high school. I drove it for 4-5 years until he bought a 66 Corvair Monza which used it to commute to college from home.

I've heard it snows a little there sometimes up there! I live in the App. mountains in S.W. Va. and we used to get snow like that back in the 60s and 70s, and every once in awhile we get that now. Gotta love dat snow thingy.

Love the history you shared, that's always interesting and I always love seeing Duff explore the rides! That thing on the front passenger side I think is a "grow your own hood stick"😜 most cars parked for 20 plus years have them. 😅 Enjoyed the video and as always, Thanks for sharing! 😊👍

No oil filter. They were a dealer installed option, cannister-type bolted to the exhaust manifold with 2 muffler clamps. I had a '61 Biscayne 2-door 235/stick I paid $100 for, drove it for 7 years.

Thanks for that history lesson. My in laws are from Wayzata, and I have been to that corner many-a-time. Not like you really care but it is pronounced why-zet-ah ('round these parts anyway). I mentioned Ty to my father-in-law and he knew ALL about him. One of the towns I grew up in had the same thing, the service station had a competitor move in and failed, so we had 2 Amoco stations with the same name in town, across the street from each other.
