Ah, memories. I remember when my mom bought one in 88 brand new. It was our family’s first brand new rig. I was 10, and she used to let me drive it around the ranch. One day it rained like mad (I think I was 13 by this time) and my buddies and I took it for a rip around the property when my mom was out and got it stuck. She got home before we finished digging it out of the mud and she was pretty pissed, but part of our punishment was to detail it when it stopped raining, and we absolutely loved it! Hahaha

I towed it down to Southwest GA in 2006 and it was stored for 10 years in a storage unit here... in 2016, i was forced to relinquish the storage unit and store the car outside... now it has surface rust all over it because there simply isn't a constant, or even sporadic, wind enough to dry the moisture quickly enough... nevermind the heat of the sun... that obviously isnt enough in this area. There are days and even weeks where the wind doesn't blow at all and the dew takes most of the day to burn off.. In Norfolk, VA, there is almost always a 10 knot wind from the Nor'East, despite the salt water proximity.

Good work on the rest of the vehicle. For the age it is in really great shape to work with. Would be interesting to hear a follow up about the issue on the wheels not fitting correctly. As to your question on "job", I was lucky enough to be an Aerospace Engineer that worked in 38 Countries around the World building Military Aircraft platforms for nearly 4 decades and LOVED my job ... even with high stress and long hours, it was rewarding. And with that background, I would say your "C Notches" are perfect ... don't listen to the others below ... you and I know that an "arch" is the strongest structural geometry of all and 2" in a 4.5" square frame rail is more than adequate ... "Wes" was just being funny ;). Glue some 1/4" rubber in the crown of the C channel and you have a bump stop. I would also advise you that minimum thread protrusion is 1 1/2 threads, regardless of application ... so you're screwed pooch on those "Chinesium Steelies" Bro. Hang in there and bon chance from the French Riviera.

Always enjoy learning from you and Duff! I once drove a salvaged electrical fire square body suburban 500 miles with a melted instrument panel with speedo bouncing between 0 and 100 like a clock pendulum. I did get a little shiver with the frame axle notch. Instead of a 4" pipe cut in half for a 2" high notch, consider a 6" or 8" pipe cut for same 2" high notch. This will create a slight crescent shaped/tapered notch. Also, if space allows, consider extending your "notch tube" outboard of the frame rail, welded inside and outside, as well as extended below the rail, welded top and bottom. The slight taper and double fillet welds could help minimize stress concentration and strengthen notch.
@mwilliamshs2 жыл бұрын
Extend the pipe beyond the frame, so it's wider, and weld it inside and outside. How is access gained to weld this pipe *inside* the frame? Welding outside the frame on the body side and in the middle isn't easy but it's logical. Welding *inside* the frame...you gotta explain that

Well yet again Mortske and Duff dog have given us one heck of a good video on this fine Monday!!! We get to laugh and learn something at the same time! Thanks bud!! Personally I think if you would repaint the mirrors the white would look better! Also I would be interested in a video about A/C

I just scrapped my 90 suburban with silverado package with awesome interior but patched up the exterior.That was the most reliable vehicle I ever owned.I live in Wi. and never see one with the body as nice as this.I bought a new chevy 4x4 years ago and it wasn't nowhere as good as that old suburban.

Nowadays, with my partner still working (ironically in a government department) I am a kept man. I potter in my garage or garden and work on classic cars. I am learning a lot about their restoration and having an absolute blast in my chosen second career, although I still keep my hand in the computer arena from time to time, with advice to old colleagues and engineers I have enjoyed working with. Do I miss it? Truth be told, I do miss the technology. The one thing I do not miss is the people, who only get hold of you when they want something or it is broken, they are always in a harried rush and take it personally when their computer throws a rod because they screwed with it or ignored the computer's equivalent of an oil light for six months and who, no matter how much you show them your expertise in many areas, will always describe you as someone who "works with computers". I'll take this semi-retirement at the age of 52 any day!
