Mr. Mortske, If you would Take a tip from an old timer, who learned from an old timer when I was 20, You'll save most of those copper radiators. I used to think I wasn't good at soldering too. Then I was taught the magic. The key is to get the metal clean. I don't mean by spraying brake clean on it. You have to use a wire brush until the area looks like a new penny. If you'll do that, the solder will run into the crack or joint as if by magic. And you will be the solder master that everyone will admire.

One day I'll give it a shot
@donfronterhouse475910 ай бұрын
Yeah preparation.is the key. When you get right it's amazing. Usually I'm in too much of a rush and it doesn't work the first time. But I've heated up radiator necks that were leaking, brush all the surfaces clean,coat it so that the space all the way around is full of flux and it sucks the solder right in. Shiny clean and strategic use of flux. That's it.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about. Man I love those 60s Buicks..... About 10 years ahead of their competitors in style and wow factor. Can't imagine a sexy interior like that in a Mustang or Transmarobird, yet they still haul ass and look great when out on a cruise. Lost sight of you doing the burnout in the garage, mate. It reminded me of an old mate of mine's 1965 Mercedes 220S "fin-tail". It was a 4-speed car with a 2.2 litre inline six that was tired about 30,000 miles before he owned it, so it was poked when he first got it to start and emptied the contents of its oilpan out the tail pipe. You couldn't leave it idling for very long at for two reasons - 1) it would oil-foul the plugs and 2) you started choking on the acrid cloud that was permeating anywhere within 4 feet of the vehicle - and if you were behind it, you were cheating. It was a no brainer that the engine was switched off when sitting at traffic lights, else you didn't know when they had turned green.........which was fine because nobody else did either. One evening, him and I went out to meet up with another group of "youthful car enthusiasts" in the old Merc. We parked the old girl up and yarned for a while with them and then went to leave, but he'd parked facing uphill and the Merc's clutch was slipping a bit, so he was a bit worried we'd have issues and get laughed at. Now, the fanbelt on the Merc was also notorious for coming loose and when my mate opened the taps in first gear, this time she screamed like a banshee. However, far from being embarrassing, we got cheers and whoops of encouragement from the amassed crowd, because coupled with the huge plumes of smoke coming from the rear of the car and the high revs of the Merc as she slowly moved off, it looked like the old girl was pulling the mother of all burnouts! So there you go - all you need is a totally rooted engine, a slipping clutch and a loose fanbelt and no tyres would be harmed in the making of a video. Nowhere near as fun though....and way more expensive to repair! All the best
