I love this guy. At first I hated his butchered English, but the quality of his thought has earned my respect and affection.

It was honestly only noticeable in the first video. After that it just became part of his "style" of videos. Great commentary and selection of games

How important it is to suspend our prejudices when learning. We'll always be amazed when prepared to suspend our prejudices first.

Wouldn't say it is butchered, just slight grammatical and pronunciation differences.

You can set ANY gambit up in Fritz or houdiny ( etc ) and as soon as the pawn is giving up, let the program analyze the position for a few hours ( or more if you like ) and the program thinks that ( if White give up a pawn, lets say in a line like the Queens gambit: 1.d4 - d5.2.c4 - dxc4 ; or Black give up a pawn lets say Banko gambit ( 1.d4 - Nf6.2.c4 - c5.3.d5 - b5 ) or any gambit, the program will give White the + score. This is taken in the basis that White has the first move and therefore a chess program will most likely give white advantage. But this dosen mean that Black cant get the upperhand, or even win the game :-) generally speaking, chess programs dosen like gambiter, sins it being programmed such that is "unhealthy" to give up a pawn ( or two ) to achieve counteraction. You can test that by let your program : Deep position analyze an opening, lets say queens gambit: 1.d4 - d5.2.c4 - dxc4. and from her let it analyse the position for a few houres or more. You see what I mean :-)

Erba Lumkan Because if Black Queen takes Bishop Qb8xf4 then Queen takes Bishop Qc5xc8+ check, then Rook takes Queen Ra8xc8 then Rook takes Rook Rc1xc8+ with a check, then Knight d7 to f8 leads to checkmate by Rook takes Knight Rc8xf8#.

True.. :-) It hard to play this as Black but then White most know it :-) And in my ( own ) experence 8 of 10 players WHO juse the morra gambit dosen know this line :-) So the chance for Black to get White in to truble is very high :-)

I would appreciate more Morra miniatures even less briliant than this one. I wonder why this gambit is rarely played by Grand Masters...is it unsound ? But than aren't all gambits ?

Maybe he should have tried to take the bishop on f4, but he would lose anyway. After ...Qxf4 2. Qxc8+ Nf8, then 3. Qxa8 ...I think it is all over then because if the black takes the rook, 3. ... Qxc1+, then, 4. Rd1 and black won't live much longer.

The morra/Smith gambit can be VERY dangerous to play as White, if White plays the standart move, and Black know´s what to do... The standart move for White in this line is: 1.e4 - c5.2.d4 - cxd4.3.c3 - dxc3.4.Nxc3 - Nc6.5.Nf3 - e6.6.Bc4 - Qc7. and now if White go´s for the standart move´s: 7.0-0 - Nf6.8.Qe2? ( maybe even ?? ) and now 8. ... - Ng4 !! Is VERY STRONG eks. 9.Bb3?? - Nd4!! and White is LOST and even if White dosen blunder lets say: 9.g3?! - Bc5! and if now: 10.h3 ?? - Qxg3+!! or 9.Rd1 - Bc5! and 9.Nb5 - Qb8.10.h3 - h5!! -+ Black is VERY MUCH on top of Things..... So Morra gambit can be VERY dangerous for White.... Just notes this line dear Black player´s.... It may give you a NICE and VERY QUIK wins when you meet the morra/smith gambit...

Morra gambiteers fear not! If your opponent ever tries this dastardly trap reply straight away with 7. Nb5! Not only is d4 defended but the black queen is on the run, letting white set his own traps. Source: Mayhem in the Morra by Marc Esserman. Highly recommended.

I belive that 7 Nb5 may be to premature..... Black can play the simple replay: 7.Nb5 - Qb8. and still hold on the the idea. BUT!!. If White just wait on to the knight is on g4 and then plays Nb5 there is a more to your idea. eks. 8.Qe2 - Ng4.9.Nb5 - Qb8.10.h3 - h5.11.g3 - Nge5.12.Nxe5 - Nxe5.13.Bb3 - a6.14.Nd4 - h4.15.g4 - ... and Black advance is very littel. But still Black have a very nice point in this NG4 move, wich I know all to well, many strong plyers dont know, and there for plays wrong and this will give Black good winning chances.. :-) I my self have wun a few quik games with player over both 1900 and 2000 ELO. with this move, so It nice to know this line. Of couse you shout be ready to play other lines as you may run in to a player who, have study this line either in a book ore her....
@mrf1shie
@mrf1shie 10 жыл бұрын
You're quite right, 7 Nb5 is premature. The book line I was referencing in fact goes 7 0-0 Nf6 8 Nb5 Qb8 9 e5I? If black continues with 9.. Nxe5 10 Nxe5 Qxe5 after 11 Re1 The queen is on the run, and black will lose all hope of taking the initiative, if not the queen!

In fact, if black accepts the second gambit pawn, fritz puts white almost a pawn up despite being 2 down! Black should refuse with Ng4 for an interesting game.

True. But wee are NO chessprogram. :-) The same goes for the Danish gambit although programs like Fritz dosen like this gambit´s pratic seems to be that it at som point OK to play them somtimes :-)
