I'm always amazed at how likable Leon is for how ridiculous his character sounds on paper, badass special agent with insane combat skills, cheesy dialogue, flirting with the ladies. He doesn't even experience any growth during the game, or have some relatable issues the player can identify with he is just a dude on a mission and is still so memorable

@K K it makes sense though, everybody forgets that by the time RE4 takes place, Leon is a government agent, has undergone the best combat/military training the country has to offer, has gone on missions for 5-6 years... he's joking and being lighthearted throughout most of RE4 because most of it is nothing to him by that point. the slow-reflex, farm tool wielding ganados, the clumsy castle traps, etc. are probably nothing compared to real combat scenarios against other highly trained enemies. there are certainly parts of RE4 where the stakes are higher and Leon becomes serious (Ashley being separated, Krauser scenes, etc.) but other than that, I would expect a survivor of Raccoon City who also is basically a member of the secret sevice to feel confident enough to crack jokes going up against mind-controlled villagers with torches and pitchforks. edit: there's nothing wrong with the way Leon is depicted in RE2 either in my opinion. they're two separate points of the guy's career: rookie cop under a mountain of stress, and top-class agent against a thousand obstacles and a couple worthy adversaries
