Hey drake one video I never see detailers make is how to tackle everything above the rub rail. Getting nice 2x2 sections on the hull is easy but how about the infinite number of tiny awkward areas on the top half?

Good job making it shine. I liked the format, explanation of what you're seeing and tips on how to correct. Dressing the wooly pads in between buffing was a great tip for me to use.

Very well explained. I have spent the last 3 days going over my starboard hull 4 times. Today, I felt like I got it right, and after watching you, I feel even better about it. Wish I had seen this video 4 days ago. It would have saved me a lot of work. I also just buffed my stainless. It looked amazing. Thank you for this video!!!

Great video (as always) and very informative. I was wondering if you continued to use that same pad on the other side or when do know it's time to switch/flip the pad? Thanks

Hey bro! I flip the sides of the pad when it becomes caked with compound. When both sides become caked I switch it out and wash them 😎

Love the new format. I was compounding my center console a couple days ago right before Christmas. I keep thinking what did Drake say about this? Do I apply medium pressure, do I hold the pad flat or do I angle it a bit to cut when using Heavy cut (your past product Level R) I bought it when you were still using it. Anyway, I do still have a lot of pad wobble where it gets a bit out of control. I still practicing to operate my Makita better. I have a lot of trouble when I do the second step with a medium cut where I run the machine any faster than 1200rpm. Practice practice. But thank you, you are a great teacher and Merry Christmas to you and your family. Bruce Brandeberry Ohio

Thanks so much for following along! While heavy cutting with your Makita, have the pad angled a little bit. While polishing with a DA or forced rotation, always have the pad flat.

Hey Drake! Awsome video again! I’ve learned from you to change speed between your passes… (side to side = 900 rpm, up down, 1500 rpm and finally side to side at 2000…) do you still do this or run always at 1700 rpm? Thanks again my friend! Max from Québec, Canada 🤙
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing Ай бұрын
Hey bro, yes, I absolutely still do it! Really, every gelcoat is different, so I keep it continuous RPMs for every single step, depending on what I am trying to achieve. if it’s a diminishing compound, the faster you need to go as you finish your passes to make it shine at the end.

Hi Drake- I have a Casita fiberglass RV with some oxidation. Can I just use chop top and a yellow wool pad as a one step process to clean it up a little? Thanks
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing 17 күн бұрын
You can, it depends on how much oxidation it has. If you’re just looking to spiff it up, I’d do chop top followed by wake up on a foam pads. Then seal it.

Hey Drake, what pad are you using for final wax?
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing 21 күн бұрын
There’s a couple different ways you can go with wax pads - you can do a microfiber pad, a black foam pad, or a white Lake country force rotation pad.

One more quick question.. after you are done with the buffing step with the rotary polisher can you use the same machine for the wax and polish step or…do you need another machine? DA?
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing 3 ай бұрын
I would not, just use either ADA, or a forced rotation polisher as they remove swirls. If you were trying to buff in sealant with a rotary buffer, all it will do is make swirl marks and mess up the work that you did.

Will the yellow wool with chop top still leavy holograms? Or do you finishbout with DA?
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing 2 ай бұрын
Yes, it will still leave some holograms. You need some sort of DA or forced rotation polisher to remove them.

It all really depends on what the customers paying for in the state of the gelcoat.

Why do you need 2 machines to detail a boat? Thank you for the videos. Looking to buy just one premium tool. Is that possible or do you need 2?
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing 3 ай бұрын
Me personally, I’d get a rotary buffer, then a forced rotation machine. The rotary buffer will help you remove the oxidation, and the force rotation polisher will pull the swirl, marks out and finish off the surface. You can even seal with a force rotation buffer.

That sounds like the least efficient way to buff a hull with two people… each take a side and let her rip… the up down on that boat wouldn’t even be that bad… constantly working on 60-80’ yachts up here in Lake Michigan all winter long. Up down, up down, up down. Also recommend starting in the bow, way harder in the shoulders, easier to finish in the stern where it small, flat, and not overhanging your head. Keep on buffin 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
