exactly Chuck, they are perfect for homeowners who want basic - to the point results. People who dismiss them because of the testing method probably said the same thing to Adolph Mehlich when he devised his in the 80's lol

Great video Nate. Welcome back to your channel. Lol! I did my tests a couple of weeks ago and YM has already posted the results. The lesson to be learned here is that you need to to collect your samples BEFORE you apply anything! How is Brutus?
@PacificNorthwestLawns2 жыл бұрын
That's definitely something people miss more than you know. Brutus is doing well. He had an eye surgery a few months ago and got neutered. He's bounced back though with only minor issues.

Thx for this. Yep my npk’s were high and the soil test was done (about 2 months ago) 2 weeks after applying fertilizer. Now I am seeing signs of bermudagrass in my Fescue. My plan is to get rid of the Bermuda then scarify the heck out of the lawn. Then in sept/Oct (I’m in So Cal) reseed. Should i retest the soil end of August? And if the NPK is low, add fertilize before reseeding OR just use the Scott’s Starter fertilizer at time of re-seeding?
@PacificNorthwestLawns2 жыл бұрын
Go ahead and use the starter fertilizer when seeding. You can test again whenever in the future but typically most people do it in the late winter since they haven't applied anything in 60 to 90 days. In you're case, that may be difficult as you may be fertilizing year round. Just try and wait 60 days or so after applying anything.

FYI WA state King County Conservation aka free soil test - they needed 2 cups up to last year and now they want 3-4 pounds. That postage is not going to be cheap at all.

Interesting. The soil tester I've used in the past also increased the amount of soil they required for testing. Unfortunately, they did not update their website and I didn't find out until I had driven my samples 45 minutes to their location. I decided to start using Yard Mastery instead.

I love taking samples in late march for my Washington soil. What do you do to minimize P and guard for poa annua? PGR?
@PacificNorthwestLawns2 жыл бұрын
To minimize or lower phosphorus you simply don't apply any. Some people recommend bagging clippings as well but I generally mulch mine and it still has held the same or gone down. Protecting against Poa Annua is done by applying pre emergents in the fall as soil temperatures start to come down below 70*. It's a winter weed so any you're seeing now started germinating a few months ago.
