Ken should've done what Frank Shamrock did and retire before his brain turn into mush. I'm afraid that it's already to late for Ken. Frank was always the smart one, won a UFC belt, WEC belt, then the Strikeforce, and after he got beat up by Cung and Diaz he realize the game passed him and did commentating. Kinda a shame how the UFC hide Frank and give Ken all the glory. Frank was a way more accomplished mix martial artist.

Heavyweight fighting is a dangerous thing, you have to be all in. As I hit early 20's and started weight training one of my coaches said "you can say goodbye to a boxing career if you start lifting weights" he was right, I quickly hit 90kg and was suddenly fighting big guys. The power you can generate and also get hit with is phenomenal and brain damage is just a given. A jab becomes a knockout punch and you're getting tagged for 6 rounds even in amateur boxing. I value my health so now I'm a healthy armchair expert

Gary Goodridge - looking at how he was close to murder an unconscious opponent giving him dozens of elbows in the chin one can fairly assume that "what goes around comes around". I love MMA. Been with the sport nearly 3 decades and HATE those type of fighters that have no switch at all and even after their opponents are lying unconscious they still have to go for over-kill (like Hendo vs Bisping etc). That's my view.

@@yeahbuddy300lbs Yes sir, he trained me but unfortunately concussion issues really fucked my life up I'm 27 and can barely walk some days, my memory is always a little shot and the headache is constant. Fast forward to earlier this year, Gary and Dan (Severn) probably saved my life after my most recent concussion, it never went away since over a year ago and after it peaked the pain and symptoms were so bad I almost ended them permanently, luckily they talked me out and got me help I got on Nortriptlyne and a service dog now and yeah I am definitely thankful every day for guys like Gary and Dan who never treated me as lesser than them for what I couldn't do athletically but rather an equal and fellow athlete.

Ken Dairiki yeah it sucks man. Like I'll miss the Pitbull if he retires but I also kinda want him to retire. BJ is a different case because Arlovski atleast got stopped by Stipe who's the champion and Overeem who's a beast. BJ literally took 2 years off said fuck it I want to fight and got merked by an up and comer. Atleast Arlovski has been active and shown capabilities to hang with the best. For those asking about big heads, a doctor explained to me: it's called acromegaly, a condition that causes bones to grow bigger, the skull is no exception and that's why the head increases its size. I was also told that acromegaly can be caused by growth hormone when it's used as doping. EDIT: I don't know if growth hormone is the only cause, ask doctors, they know better than me for sure.

This is the kind thing we martial arts fans try not to think about. But it's always an issue in the back of my mind, casting a shadow over the whole thing. On the other hand, we all take risks in our lives, and as adults we're entitled to it. We can't avoid risks: whether it is going into the military, other high stress career. Going out drinking every so often. Smoking. Playing soccer or football. We all pick our own poison.
@icedtiga59435 жыл бұрын
You seem to contradict yourself when you say we can't avoid risks and give a list of harmful thing to do by choice, I would say that what you need is good intentions and good reason, for example; is it worth destroying your brain for some small amounts of money such as in the case of the UFC etc.? You only have one go at this life, what will you do with it is what we have to ask ourselves, maybe there's some that just want to be remembered, like perhaps that guys who's so old and still getting his brains bashed fighting in the video here, but for how long will he be remembered? And when he's gone will it bring him any good? Why are we here, what's our purpose, we need to ask these questions and when we find those answers the rest hopefully becomes clear
