Not a vet, but I think the big, more primal/wolf-like breeds have it easier than these "bred to be too small to give birth"-breeds. Otherwise wolves would've died out a long time ago. Problems start when people breed pugs and other breeds that are "notoriosly difficult due to their narrow pelvis" like Chris said. I adore malamutes though. I'm so jealous you got to cuddle with over 60 of those fuzzy little baby polar bears 🥺

@CL-ks7xy3 жыл бұрын
You probably took precautions as well, the pug owner was not very smart since pugs tend to have health issues and she was a pet not a breeder and he still bred her, which was probably against the breeders contract he got her from. I know all the puppies survived, he got lucky and got her to a vet in time but people like that are why ethical breeders have bad reputations and why people think that fatality rate in puppies being born is more common than it really is. Not saying the percentage would change by a lot, but if breeding was left to the people who know how to work with puppies that are breach, have fluid in mouth/lungs, can seeing signs of labor not progressing fast enough, not to breed mom to larger males but smaller males, health test to prevent genetic diseases as much as possible, this fatality rate would improve. However, doing all the right things does not guarentee a healthy litter every time, sometimes puppies die anyways, but you would think people would do what they could to prevent it, but sadly all the puppy mills and back yard breeders and emotional breeders see is money or puppies because puppies are just so cute, not the negative possibilities of what could happen during labor.

I've been a vet tech for over 7 years now and I still remember almost all the c-sections we've done so far. Some very sad and traumatic, some very happy and wholesome. Bringing life into the world always feels a different kind of special compared to other surgeries. I worked at a big clinic for a short time and we had an emergency c-section on a Boston Terrier late in the evening. It reminded me of the story with the pug - same birthing prolems. Unfortunately, one puppy had been stuck in the birth canal for too long and didn't make it. The other 4 survived. We got everyone available in the clinic on board for the operation, a total of 3 vets, 3 vet techs and 2 vet techs in training. The girls in training were super nervous, it was their first c-section, but when they had a puppy handed to them, they were beaming with amazement. Your first c-section is special and you'll remember it.

the pug got to me, "she's a family PET, not a breeding dog." Well why the heck breed her then???? >.> So many people emotionally breeding dogs with no clue how breeding dogs and help delivering pups work. Small dogs tend to have caesarians more than large breeds due to the pups being larger than the mom can handle. If he had been a breeder, he would have saw his female should not breed with her smaller than normal hip area, pugs have large heads and can get stuck and some reason pugs and shih tzu tend to have breach puppies and they need to be pulled and if you are not trained to do this you could hurt the mom and the puppy if not kill the puppy. Bet there was no health testing done with his dog because "she looks healthy" rather than knowing that there could be an underlying condition health testing of the parents could determine the puppies will not get it, like if the mom and dad appear healthy, doesn't mean if their genes mixed won't cause an unhealthy puppy. Pugs have the most health issues, so not health testing both parents would be the biggest mistake he made. All he thought about was either money or wanting to keep a puppy from the mom dog due to thinking she was the best dog ever, those two reasons are not reason to breed. The first one, she at least did some testing and is trying to preserve a breed, the pug owner was not doing anything reasonable and I hope he realized his mistake and will educate people with his experience of having no experience with breeding.

My Labrador delivered 16 puppies. 15 survived and one was a still birth, (the last one) her litter was beautiful and healthy, but we had to bottle feed a few because the mother wasn’t putting out enough milk. She also had to get calcium supplements to keep up with her milk production.

John should regret his decision to bring more deformed puppies into the world. What do they mean by John finally feels comfortable leaving Bella's side? He wasn't by her side through any of it.

I had a Shar pei pit mix that got pregnant when she was under a year old. She had her first puppy in the hallway outside my room and left it in its sack (it died). I hand delivered, removed sack, cut and tied cords for 5 more puppies. We decided to let her do the 7th puppy's cord after I delivered it, she was doing great, then just chomped it's little belly (we lost that one). I delivered 4 more puppies after that, lost one because it was born deformed. Out of 11 she had 8 pups. She wouldn't feed them, we had to hold her and her head so the puppies could feed. I found homes for all the puppies. I ended up having to find a home for the mom after I had my first child, she was very aggressive towards the baby from the beginning when she cried.

Alex and Gerardo are wonderful, showing up in the middle of the night for Greta. It’s wonderful that Nana Marie has the blessing of puppies on the day of her mother’s funeral. Joy on the day of sorrow.

Watching this made me really think if I should let my baby be a mom or not. I want to see whta beautiful pups she will bring to the world, but I don’t want to see her suffer so much too…..

If you're not a professional breeder working to improve the breed-- don't breed. It endangers the life of the dog and the lives of any puppies she might have.

If you have to think about it, then fix her. We have such an overpopulation of dogs sitting in shelters waiting on death row or for their next home. Please do the responsible thing and spay her.

Nah not a good idea- especially if you're not a professional breeder.

Yes that was quite awful to watch. They need to learn the "swing" technique. Wasting precious time with stethoscopes - sheez.
