The Versys 650 is for when you want to hit twisties the next state over, and still be able to use ALL of the power. The fact that it has the best suspension of a 650 class bike doesn't hurt.

There are plenty of full on dirt bikes that classify in different parts of the world. The Enduro bikes are considered "Dual Sport" in the states because the US doesn't have serious enduro events (Hare and Hounds are not, by European standards, serious). But the EXCs are full on dirt bikes that are road legal in most countries. And they are a real blast, even in road legal form. In fact, the Supermotards are almost always enduro machines with road tyres, a bit more front brake, and slightly stiffer suspenders. I happen to know a few people in Europe who have enduro/SM bikes that they'll swap from dirt to road specs in not much more than an hour. 2 extremely fun bikes for no more money than a cheapish sport bike.

my versys was fun as hell.. scraping pegs while fully hanging off, pinning the throttle after every shift, sliding the rear mid corner because of poor dampening, squirm through the whole chassis over every bump.. its fun to ride a slow bike fast. it was as fun as it was scary. made me a much much better rider once i moved up to something with better suspension, stiffer chassis, and smoother fueling.

I really appreciate the 650s being high up on the list. They are just so much fun and you can almost reach their full potential on the street. They have the right amount of torque and are made for just about everyone. I love them so freaking much.

Great video and you covered all the categories I could think of. A lot of these rankings are relative to age though. Light, flickable, powerful bikes are great when you're new to the sport and if you always just ride short distances, but after a while when a person decides they want to put on some serious miles they tend to start looking at something a bit heavier like a sport touring or cruiser with some luggage. I'm 68 and I guess I'll never get to the age where I see a all out touring bike as my best option though. Some of those remind me of a Cadillac with two wheels. Put me and the wife on and a person's probably looking at 1200 - 1300 lbs. I'd sure love to see you and Yammie take a long trip with the Busa and any one of the other bikes you have there, and at the end of the trip let us know your thoughts, ... (or rent a couple of sport touring bikes you don't have such as the FJR1300 and new 1400 Concours).

Versys Love? I am no expert, i haven't ridden too many bikes and i enjoy the Versys 650 (early Cyclops model). It does it all: fun, easy to ride, comfortable as you sit high even with a passenger. Fill the tank and ride 220 miles, commuter duties, ok I am not taking a 500 lb bike off road but i only have one bike.

Same engine, lol. All they have to do is make that engine series "crossplane" and they instantly bring back the hype and buyers. Oh. And crossplanify the ninja 400, too. That'd be REAL interesting.

Spite, how are you gonna put the VFR800 in C tier, behind cruisers? It's so comfy, has a good bit more power than the 650 class, and it'll still carve up the twisties. Put on the bags and you can go miles. I think you should revisit your old VFR and see if you don't like it better these days.

Funny that you exclude the Vulcan S. Of course there are many different Vulcans. I allow myself to own any bike I want under $6k, and I have a couple of dozen. I'm not a cruiser guy, but I've owned and ridden a lot of them. I prefer standards and "naked" bikes and add my own accessories. And Yet, I have a couple of first gen Vulcan VN750's. Talk about a great bike to hop on for no particular reason and ride for a couple of hours! And I've personally known riders from 5'4"-6'2" that fit and enjoyed them. I would add this particular model all the way up to the B category.

A vtwin roadster with 70 to 100hp, good low end torque and a good handling is the best thing you can own if you can only have one. I've had my license for 10 years, I've never owned anything other than a 600cc twin roadster and I plan on keeping it that way, 110hp max maybe. More than that and I'll lose my license or my life way too early, especially here on the french riviera.

The dual sports are your most bang for the buck in my opinion. Best all around bike. If you want to go full on dirt you need a dirt bike, full race bike then you have to by a specialized one. Both fun butt purposed built. You need to buy more then one bike......Many options out there in the used market. I never really cared whether my bike was new or used. I buy what I like. Right now my oldest bike is 19 years old and I bought last fall. Runs great and does what it does, while looking good.

I’m from the uk and have a honley hd3 125 (Yeahh it’s Chinese) but I’ve done some miles on it about 9000 in just over a year, honestly you can ride 2-3 hours without the need to stop. It’s a naked bike so wind can be a pain but it’s so fun good tires on it it’s great so light you can really throw it around and cos there’s nothing on and only cost £1000 for 2016-17 model it not such a big deal when you go down I’ve been down twice, one my fault one a car tried to kill me and went down at 40 mph but both times I was able to get up and ride away (had to hammer the foot stand straight that was it. So Yeahh 125 very fun most of them can do 70+ and so cheap to run

Spite, this vid wasn't bad but you're missing soooo much- All of the modern classics will whoop a nowadays mustang and have a comfortable riding position, and some of the readily available older muscle bikes can spank the cross plane R1 from 0-100 & also have a very nice riding position. My fav's are the Triumph Bonneville and anything made by Buell...

Just seeing this now. I know, a little late in the game. My first bike on his list was the "project bike" with the miss matching motor and frame. Mine is a NSR Mc21 frame with a Suzuki RG500 shoehorned in. Somehow I think it doesn't exactly fin in the POS category through.😏 Then of course we finally get the the reason all these videos are popping up on my list. The DRZsm. The single cylinder slot has been open for a long time and I just filled it with the SM. His description is correct. It's slow by comparison to the other bikes I have. I could pass it without coming out of first gear on most of the other ones. The SM is so engaging. Super light, lots of shifting, little concern for how tight the next corner is or where the actual driveway is. I find myself riding it like a bicycle. I'm sort of following along with traffic but not really. It's a great poor weather bike too. Who cares if it's raining. Slip sliding away? Adds to the fun. All the rest of my bikes are pretty old so they didn't hit the list. Just found it funny that the first on his list was my favorite of my group, the 500.😁

Y'all need to get a true Cruiser bro on the channel. Spite is close, but it would be great to see someone break down an F-S of the cruisers market. Someone who knows that the Yamaha line of cruisers is great, but lack the soul of a Harley or Indian bagger. Someone who knows that the best bang for the buck comes in the Honda VTX line. The line that should have stuck around for the slump in Harley and the demise of Victory. Just personal examples, but some that would expand the horizons of your channel to new viewers. Love the channel though. I'm a huge fan of what you're doing.
