I bought these speakers and they are wonderful, however I had to return them due to ill health. Happy to see some more expensive gear trickling into your reviews. Not because I'll ever be in the position to afford it, but rather to have established data points when you're making comparisons to more value minded options. If the Buchardt's hit like a leather baseball bat on the Mcintosh setup, then I might be happy with a naugahyde whiffle ball bat when something at my price point comes along. Appreciated as always Randy, Thanks!

I purchased on reviews also...after hooking them up I was very disappointed...they definitely lack detail...I packed them right back up and paid Buchardt €100 as they require for return...You don't see many reviews here on Dali because they are harder to come by in America...they are designed and made in Denmark...I wouldn't bother with there lower end speakers but the Rubicon and the Epicon are fabulous!!... there's a private owners review here on KZbin on the Epicon...I imagine best possible for any set up would be a great integrated tube amp and the Epicon 2 - I can only imagine pure bliss!!

I don’t know if you get a chance to read these, but I just wanted you to know, that the $15 DAC I bought on your recommendation continues to amaze me! Especially when I record a “hi-def” album off Amazon Music onto CD on a TEAC professional grade recorder. Then play back on a good blue-ray through the DAC: the improved sound all across the board is palatable. 10% to 15% gain in fidelity at least. I have a great vintage system: Kyrocera 561 into 4 Heresy’s…the highs like cymbals ring more, sound more “real” the voices and horns crisp and clear, the bass deeper and more thumpy. I am a serious listener, but retired on a fixed income so the $ saved here and the result represents an incredible audio value. Thanks!

Would like a comparison with the critons in that video :) I think it's fair game to start comparing diy once the speakers get to be more expensive than the kit to showcase the quality of the kit. I don't think it'll steal alot of business away from manufacturers, whoever decides to build the kit was probably somewhat interested in diy already and not understanding how they compare is what holds many back so those videos and comparisons could be very inspiring for the right person to finally pull the trigger on a project.

Then later on (Soundstage and imaging) he compares to the R200, i then took that and went to the R200 review to get the delta towards B400mkII. So as I gahter, the R700s are awesome "large speakers" for the price and the Buchardt/Criton are awesome "small speakers". I own the Wharfedale Linton's and love them to bits! The star of the show just like with the Buchardt's, is also the midrange, which together with excellent bass and a decent treble, produce a nice full-bodied sound with great dynamics and articulation. Sounds like they have a lot in common with the Buchardt's when it comes to their overall sound signature. How do you think the Buchardt's perform in direct comparison with the Linton's which I remember you also liked a lot? And do you think the Buchardt's are worth more than twice the cost of the Linton's? I assume the Buchardt's might beat them in midrange and treble clarity. But due to the share size of the Linton's, I assume the Linton's on the other hand, must have more body and stronger bass presence? What is your take on it Randy?

Really appreciate your no nonsense review. Easy to understand and concise at the same time. I concur with you regarding the assessment of the speakers. Overall a bit expensive but very very enticing bass and midrange. The upper frequency could use a bit more air. I found the treble response to be a little dull but you can not expect to go too far with those cheap soft dome tweeters. I'm glad you're reviewing more expensive gear. There is a finite number of low cost components, and you would run out of gear to review, and no one wants that.

In reply to your audio post comment that treble shouldn't be heard, it's just there. "It HAS to be heard for it to be there"....Socrates- sometime before Jesus I think? You're not related to HP from TAS are you? He always used "me thinks" too. I do think I know what you mean though. If its stands out too much it sounds too hi fi. Then again I just heard a marching band go by, and when they crashed the symbols together, having the kind of balance you're talking about, you wouldn't hear even 1/3 as much of a crash as what everyone lined up on the sidewalk heard.

Please allow me to offer an opposing viewpoint here. Some of the many allures that this channel has (had?) are: 1. The subject matter at hand - that is, focusing on inexpensive, yet high-performing audio gear (a buyer category to which most of us tend to belong. 2. Randy's wonderful (hilarious), off-the-cuff humor that belies the fact that he's an exceptionally intelligent person who was seemingly born to do these kinds of videos. Having said that (and I hope I'm wrong here), what I see happening here - through a gradual transition perhaps - is a shift to more expensive gear reviews. This occurs with many audio review channels and after a period of time, they tend to review the expensive stuff more often than not. Personally (my opinion only), I'd prefer to see Randy continue to focus on the "Cheap Audioman" format and target the myriad of inexpensive audio components (of which there are many out there) that offer exceptionally high value, coupled with excellent audio capabilities. Additionally, Randy's foray into modifying (improving) inexpensive gear through the changing out of components such as op-amps, cross-over networks, and more, provides invaluable suggestions to improve specific audio gear even more. Just my two cents worth here...

I agree, but also think around $2k is a nice ceiling... Eventually he WILL run out of quality affordable gear, and be left with affordable shitty gear
@stevezeidman72242 жыл бұрын
There are just so many $100 Chifi amps to review. If he devotes a couple of episodes to more expensive components, I really don’t care. He’s got to be able to compare these more expensive components to cheaper ones anyway. It’s the only way for him to be able to make recommendations.
@ramondelgado67782 жыл бұрын
100 percent agree with you both!!!! this $2k ish ceiling is great and we need to know about this level of gear to really understand and appreciate the value stuff. For example, I've heard these speakers. they are wonderful and built super well. budget option, the Polk R200 and the Wharfedale Denton 85 th edition.

As a datapoint these reviews are helpful. I like the way Randy compares gear, which is one reason I joined his Patreon. (He has earned some support, imho) If you think about what’s available at this range - and I think we could aspire to - There are a ton of interesting g options. Maggie’s. R700 Polk - new, these Bucharest, Monitor, etc. It’s helpful to hear one guy cover the range. And I may be wrong but it seems like his success is motivating other folks to review less expensive gear more often.

I agree he will run out of cheap amplifiers but there are still a lot of under 1k spkrs. anyway it's good to know about somewhat higher priced items in case one comes across a great deal.

Another solid review amigo. On a side note, can you recommend a few affordable CD players that have the digital out? I'm finding that most lack that feature these days. Maybe a 15min video on a list of the makes/models of those cd players, as well as various affordable dacs to pair them with? Keep grinding brother!

sure. usually I'd just recommend a bleary player with a Digital out. There's not a ton out there that are reasonably priced anymore. There's not a ton of bleary players out anymore either.

S400MKII is much better for low volume listening than MKI. You can listen quietly and still hear the detail and dynamics. This is one of the areas Mads Buchardt said they focused on because it was an issue a lot of people brought up.

Hey Randy, I know everyone is going to review the new Klipsch RP600M II (Andrew and Erin have already), but some of us liked the original RP500M more than the 600M, because the 500 was better balanced, and didn't have the midrange dip and elevated tweeter that the 600 had. So, I was wondering if you had any intention of getting the new RP500M II for review, as well as the cheaper version, the new R50M, to see how it compares to both the RP500M II and the R51M, the model that it replaces. Thanks

Hey Randy. I just finish my Ultimate crossover mod on the CS5. And the base improves a lot!!!, I made it with the option of leave more tweeter with the lowest resistor. I compare them with a second pair of the sony's that I have and are a very different speakers. I hear them for a couple of hours with a speaker switch that I have and at the begining I feel the originals have more detaile than the modified, but after a couple of songs I realized that the modified pair are a lot way better in terms of balance. I was used to the original ones, but the modified ones invites you to keep listening more and more. As this ones I feel them more "creamy as you say", this Buchardt description is close to what I hear on my modified sony's, right?
