the feeling of finishing a routine with no music is crazy. at our last dance competition a couple years ago, our final production routine with every girl on our team in it. half way through, the music stopped mid- tumble passes and turns. we all started screaming the lyrics and it’s crazy. at a dance competition, you are in straight eye contact with the judges. they were all shocked, and the other studios were backstage screaming counts to keep us going. when we ended and hit our final pose, everyone in the audience stood up and freaked out, we all stood up and started jumping and crying, and when we got backstage every single studio waiting for awards was screaming with us. at awards, there was only 2nd and 1st left to announce. we either got it all or got nothing. and let me tell you, when the announcers scream “1st place overall champion goes to number 272 soda shop by studio a dance academy”... we all started bawling. we all ran up and screamed our studio name and we couldn’t breathe. two years later i still mesmerize that moment, and i’ll never forget it. best feeling ever.💘

One time on stage for my musical theatre (dance competitions) routine we played the wrong music (on accident) and the music that was supposed to be played had 4 songs, but the one played only had 3. So once the third music just went on we kept on going and had to sing the rest of the song and the routine was Mamma Mia! and we had to sings and scream dancing queen. It wasn't on the pitch, but all of us just started singing with passion it is a moment in my life that I can never forget. We ended up getting platinum (highest at the competition) and that feeling of finishing that routine and everyone clapping filled joy and life through all of us. It was a truly amazing experience and when the adjudicator called us professionals for what we did it was awesome.

Its a continuation of the count, the music cut at beat 3. I never did cheer but in show choir which has a similar structure we start with a quicj 5-6-7-8 so our first move is beat 1. It helps the focus of the team to continue the beat instead of starting at 1 especially when the entire team is in the middle of a transition.

Not at all! You should definitely try out! Cheer is a family, and it helps you build up both mental and physical strength. I have a bad back, and on my team there was no judgement for not being able to stretch as far, especially when you start out! By the end of my first cheer season, my back was much better from all the stretching and I was bench pressing as much, if not more than the football team in my gym class. My gym class members admitted it was funny to watch a 5'2" girl get into a weightlifting competition with the team during class and win

We were so confused and ended up doing the whole routine to not our music. When we got done we got off the mat crying. We knew we were gonna lose because we weren’t on time with the music cause it wasn’t even ours. We ended up getting last place and to this day I wanna forget that comp.

You practice over and over that it's second nature to go on. I was severely sick and heard the music for the first 16 counts but then I just couldn't hear the music so I counted. The next miracle was that I performed the rest of the show basically in my sleep. Because of how hard you practice and your body just knows. Great job for continuing despite an obstacle and your fellow cheerleaders were great in supporting you.
