Calculating mass of an object when you have another mass in orbit that you can find and its orbital period is a simple formula.

TON 618 is a supermassive black hole and it's outside our galaxy. The black hole we're talking about is a stellar black hole (much smaller than supermassive black holes) inside our galaxy.
